Re: Windows Live Query?? (Edited)

Even when using company equipment there should be a written agreement if any form of monitoring of employees is to be used (including CCTV). There is provision for monitoring to be done if a crime is reasonably suspected and certain other conditions are met, but regular monitoring is another matter.

I realize that the OP was not seeking legal advice (and I am only giving my opinion here) but I don't think that is necessarily reason to withhold such opinions. If someone asked me the best way to wire their front door to the mains to deter burglars I think it would be acceptable to warn of potential problems of such a course of action other than just blown fuses.

But as I seem to be getting into trouble left, right and centre for not giving direct advice on how to implement this (possibly illegal) course of action I'll give this thread a miss from now on.

Nobody will be able to post a solution as long as you keep sending the discussion off-topic.
When someone has a question about Windows Live Mail and someone else posts a link to an Outlook solution, I think that can reasonably be described as going off-topic...
Is that what your link to Freak Chat was meant to convey?

This is quite amusing. Not only do I find myself moderating discussions, but also the "mods" laugh

Has anyone considered the possibility that Batboy and AEP are the same person?

In reply to a post by AEP:
I'm not sure that the legality aspect only applies in a business environment. I think that covert monitoring of emails is a very suspect legal area whether done in the workplace or privately.

I simply want a "Sent-Copy" that I can retain across a number of PCs. Basically I set it up to send to another of my email addresses that I do NOT make public. Once received back (as an in-coming Msg to an alternative a/c) it gets automatically transferred to my Sent Box (NB I do NOT save on outgoing sending).

However, this also means that ANY PC that I'm using can also receive a copy &, hence, this ensures that all of my Sent-Mail is available on all my PCs (a simple way of synchronising).

I obviously do NOT want this "hidden" email to be publicly available to avoid it becoming an alternative inbox!!

I have used this system for many years, using Thunderbird, but now my wife wants to be able to use both the main Home-PC plus her recently acquired Lap-Top - unfortunately, she is used to Windows Live & doesn't want to convert to Thunderbird!

Simples, really - no hidden agenda or conspiracy involved!!

In reply to a post by AEP:
Monitoring emails without the recipient's consent is a criminal act under the Interception of Communications Act 1985. And if the recipient consents then he already knows that you are copying the emails.

Edit: The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 is probably the applicable act nowadays.

Are you suggesting that you are NOT entitled to save a copy of an out-going message without asking the recipient in advance??

If so, I would suggest that EVERY Email Client is illegal as the default setting is to automatically save a copy (in the Sent Folder) WITHOUT the specific agreement of the Recipient!!

I suspect that is a typo, really.. AEP probably thought you were monitoring other people's (in your house/business) email without their knowledge, as opposed to what you explained in your other post..
