That never crossed my mind until you mentioned it. The account in question is an IMAP account which I thought may have been the cause. However I've just sent a number of test messages with pictures attached, and they all displayed correctly on opening. So it appears to be just one contact.

I'm at a loss as to why the pictures sent from this contact can be viewed from the attachments but not within the body of the email.

Thanks for the pointer. It proves the IMAP account is fine.

If there are no placeholders where the images should be, they are probably "attaching" the images as files rather than "inserting" them as inline images.

The placeholders are there, but with the red X in the top left corner.

I thought you had it, but I just attached a few JPGs as files and they also appeared in the body of email (both in Sent Item and received item).

Is there a limit as to the number of attachments, or a maximum overall attachment size?

Can you try accessing your email account with POP3 instead of IMAP?

Leave msgs on server so as to maintain the status quo.

Only any overall size limit set by your ISP.

But it can't be that, as the attachments are present, but are just not embedded in the text as well.

To be honest as it's a business email I rather not meddle with it. It has to be accessed via a couple of different computers. I'll email the contact and inform them of the problem.

It could be that this particular sender is sending Plain Text emails rather than HTML. Have a look at the headers for a 1st line: Content-Type: text/plain;.

Anyway, is it worth bothering over? You've still got the attachments.
