Slipstreaming Win xp SP3

By goggling i found this info, showing how to create a bootable version of Win XP SP3 from both your existing Windows XP (SP2 ) installation disk and downloading SP3 from Microsoft slipstream sp3 info
My question is this,because that info is now somewhat outdated , are there any easier /better methods of doing this out there ?

The method in the article is used by quite a lot of people, there should be no issues with it...

Of course the absolutely best SP3 install media is the one that Microsoft provide, either a retail version of Windows XP with SP3 or if you have access to Microsoft downloads, to download that media.

Yes there is an easier way, google nlite.

There is an easier way. I've been using it since XP began through all it's service packs. Even have an install to this day from it and legally activated.

And apparently you must slipstream an XP disc on a running XP install.

slipstreaming I used to do a lot on XP for 2 prime reasons.

1 - There was for a while a nasty virus doing the rounds which would infect a new XP installation that wasnt slipstreamed as long as it was online. Eventually a new SP patched it up but before then one had to slipstream a new install to not be vulnerable after installation. After that I developed a habit to keep my install media up to date with patches.
2 - I on average reinstalled XP every 6 months as over time ti got bloated and degraded.

Funny enough tho my windows 7 is still my original install and holding up, I even decided to clone it to my ssd instead of reinstalling as I reckon the hassle of retuning, tweaking, configuring gui/apps etc. was just far too much trouble as its running well. On top of this windows 7 is not as easy to slipstream as XP is. On my XP media I also slipstreamed registry settings etc so the registry in effect was also pre configured for app settings, tweaks etc. Slipstreaming XP media can also make the XP installation skip all the dialog boxes during installation so can be unattended, slipstreaming is very powerful on XP.

Windows 7 is much easier to do things like slipstreaming, OOBE customization, and unattended installation etc, however the tools used for this have changed since XP.

Oops.

Download SP3 and use WinRaR or similar to extract it to C:\SP3

Copy the contents of your SP2 CD to C:\XP

Open a Command prompt and CD to c:\SP3\i386\update
Enter update.exe /integrate:c:\xp

Use something like MagicISO to burn back to CD ensuring that you keep the boot sector.

If you use nLite and don't want to install DotNet, search for DotNetLite and install it to the nLite folder.
