Microsoft Account Locked

[link to this post]

M$'s account security is a right [censored] pain in the ass.

My account keeps getting locked....

All because attackers are trying to login. They are falling to do so as its the wrong passwords they are using.

But when it happens Microsoft lock my account and I have to reset the password. This happens every couple of weeks at least and sometimes more.

It drives me fugging nuts and I am sick of dealing with this [censored].

Problem is, I have my PC and my server, Both are signed in to my M$ account as the Windows licence is connected with that account...

It's also breaking my mapped network drives as its the same account... I can get round that mind with a local account..

But is there any way around this mess M$ calls account security?

It's like changing my locks cus someone tried their key! Its mental.

Google dont pull this [censored]. If someone DOES login with the right password, 1st there is 2FA and 2nd they are very good at knowing from things like IP address, location etc that its probably not me and lock the account then, Not when every tom dick and harry tries to login with an old leaked password!

I know it is not going to help you, but i am so glad I don't have my PC linked to an MS account.
Can you not change it to a local account? your windows will still be linked to your account.

Have you enabled two-factor authentication using, for example, Microsoft Authenticator? (I have and never have this problem of account getting locked.)

I've never had that problem, but I do have a lot of attempts: https://ibb.co/HDBzjKbN

MFA is enabled, I don't know if it makes a difference to the chances of lockout.

Yes, but via email not an app.

If i log into my MS account, activate windows, I can go to a local account and windows stays activated...

I will have to take that route for now.

I was getting my account locked again after resetting the password due to Windows trying to reconnect mapped drives using the old login details! Even broke RDP...

What a ball ache. Do you think using the authenticator app will change things?

I think I once read people suggesting adding a hard to guess email alias to the MS Account and making that the sign-in email rather than the normal one. No idea if that helps, never tried it.

That's a good idea...

If that email gets leaked I'd also know it was MS to blame.
