We can't rely on BT Speedtests now either?

[link to this post]

Great, so we fart about to keep BT happy, knowing full well our lines are performing poorly, but it appears BT are now briefing ISPs that the Speedtester isn't actually accurate either...

file size too small, it gives erratic and low results on Max lines.

seems to be like that with fixed-speed lines too.

I can run a BT speedtest (logging in with the speedtest username), and get 1200-1300 kilobits per second. I then reconnect to Zen, download from fuller and see that it's pulling 230 kilobytes per second.

fuller is...

Fuller isn't supposed to be used for speedtesting anymore - use http://download.zensupport.co.uk instead.

?

I said I get 1200-1300 KILOBITS per second with the BT speedtest (which is with the speedtest account) and 230 KILOBYTES per second (like 18 to 1900 KILOBITS) which is normal.

So that suggests problems with BT, not Zen.

(didn't know fuller wasn't to be used anymore, thanks!)

I did not know this - thanks.

On the other hand - the links at http://download.zensupport.co.uk all point to tillich.zen.co.uk which *appears* to be the same machine as fuller.zen.co.uk - so perhaps it doesn't really matter

I don't care why, the fact is we're going to be getting results which are of absolutely no indicative use of perofmrnace. Which means in essense we'll see lines which are really performing like poo appear to be fine under BT.

Hardly any use to the end users now..

It remains to be seen what BT implement as a solution. Too big a download file and slow speed the connection will just time out. Too small and fast speed and you'll get an inaccurate reading. Maybe something like Mr Saffron's test which tests the connection speed before deciding upon a download filesize ?
