Alternatives to Zen?

I've recently had to question the cost of Zen after having to deal with their Technical support department. Don't get me wrong, Zen are very good, but I wasn't overly impressed with the way my fault was initially dealt with. It could be just one of those things and I shouldn't judge them too much.
However my experience (and they say first impressions have the most impact) has made me wonder what other ISP's are above average?
I moved from talktalk after having an OK 15 months with them, resulting in a nightmare once they launched their new product. As a result moving to Zen and going back to BT for Phone I have now more than doubled my Phone and ISP costs.
If I'm not getting an expectant service from Zen (rightly or wrongly) for this extra money, then maybe I can reduce costs by going for a company that's not as expensive as Zen, but more expensive than the likes of TalkTalk - ie a sort of halfway house.
There is a wireless network in the town i live in which is reasonable (speeds upto 1Mbps) and you avoid the BT infrastructure, however it's no good for gaming as latency is very high.

I already have my Mac, so if I can find a service compromise, I'll be off...

Nildram m8, there just as good as Zen if not better, you get unlimited bandwidth off peak, 5 email addresses, my speeds and the times ive spoken to there customer support since i migrated have been just as good, infact my speeds have gone up a touch.

You haven't really said what your requirements are. If you want uncapped and a bunch of static IPs you're probably best off where you are.

If you use 5gb a month there are probably going to be better packages around based solely on price.

I've looked at Nildram, but the online gaming side is a concern. Although I don't play WOW, I do play CS and I wouldn't want to risk it on that side.

I've looked at NDO and Freeola, but not sure what they are really like.

I do wonder if these are any good, or just resellers?
