Ok, so zen have introduced caps for legacy users, and 100 GB is a lot. MaxDSL should have had a 100 GB cap in my opinion.
Zen's reason is because of a few extreme users ? So, why do a few EXTREME users make the majority of us non-extreme users have to suffer ?
Why haven't zen dropped the price ? I loved having an uncapped product.
I rang zen customer services to find out. I talked to some dim witted female from customer services who couldn't/wouldn't answer my questions ? she acted like a politician spouting lies, facts and figures.
So why do the many suffer from the few ? Zen are like a dictatorships now.

Um, wouldn't that just justify the need for caps?
Lower prices = less revenue = less investment
= lower quality service.

I'd love to know how the 'dim witted female' characterised you to her co-workers after the phone call, but sadly we may never know as Zen are far to professional to make comments like that in public.
Personally I would not try phoning any ISPs Customer Services number to ask challenging questions about why a policy is as it is or why it isn't something different, they can however tell you what the policy is and that is their function, impuning smeone's intelligence because they are not briefed on matters not pertaining to their role isn't very friendly.
I'm not sure why you feel a price drop would be due as even at 100GB the cost per month does not cover it if you actually used the full allowance?
This change has been longer arriving than I expected and was highly predictable if sufficient people remained on the old products maxing out their downloads each month.
I do have sympthy though for those who did their research and moved to Zen specifically for the 'unlimited' 2Mb product, but services change over time and this one lasted longer than I ever expected it to.
You can still find unlimited services out there at the moment, how long for I don't know but with the ease of migration these days it isn't a great hardship to move around as the product die one by one.

No they haven't. They have only announced their intent to start capping from March.

Lies and facts. At the same time?
Care to prove that you were lied to?

Damn, I didn't realise we used to be able to vote to change the price!

I don't think I've ever read a more contradictory post.
You say 100GB is "a lot". Extreme users are those that, you would assume from Zen's actions, download more than 100GB. This means the network suffers, and the service deteriorates. If you cap these extreme users, then surely network service improves. I am a definate non-extreme user (about 10-15GB a month) and I feel this is plenty and short of illegal downloads, would find it very difficult to go over 100GB consistently every month (and if one more person says Linux ISOs I'll kill them - I mean it).
Zen's MAX RADSL products do have caps - 20 and 50GB for Active and Pro respectively.
I pay more for Zen because their service is unthrottled and they have a reputation for good service. The fewer people downloading large amounts of data at peak times is better for everyone, so why is the 100GB cap a bad thing unless you download this amount and are, QED, an extreme user?
What are you on about?

It seems obvious to me that those who remained on the 2mb unlimited service aren't effecting the quality of service zen delivers, nor are they effecting bandwidth take up, face it the roll out of MAX services did that for zen all on its own.
100gb isn't much these days in my opinion. With HD content now becoming freely available and available to purchase off XBOX Live, it won't stretch far. Add to this the many tv shows available on usenet, some folks will watch more tv off the web than on the box.
I must say I was annoyed at the tone of the "we're gonna cap you" email initially, as I don't download 24/7. But according to Mr Tang anyone downloading on 2mb for more than a mere 7 hours a day is overdoing it, or burning a hole in his pocket, the latter being the most obvious reason.
But regardless I signed up for zen because I wanted an unlimited product, and still do. Its by the by what I use it for. One thing is for sure, 12 months ago the Zen song sheet was very different to how it is these days. Zen has certainly become just another old ISP with very little more to offer. Certainly the "zen premium" isn't worth what it once was, by a long chalk.
What`s happening here is Mr Tang wants a bit of extra Christmas money, and being the owner of Zen I guess that`s his prerogative.
No doubt, come the end of March I'll be migrating away to BE Unlimited.

Yes, 2 and 1mb unlimited can still be found in a few places... the latest golden boy is AOL. Yet as the mob moves in that direction, the ratios of heavy to light users tip and we all know what happens... then the screams come when the ISP puts a cap, throttle, shape, etc. to try to keep services alive.
