Connection Problems

[link to this post]

Sorry for the ambiguous title but I couldn't think of how else to word it!

I was on Zens 1 meg service a while ago. This service was guaranteed 1 meg and I never had a problem with it (i.e. The connection was always at 1 meg)
.
A few months ago I upgraded to their home 8000 service but for the majority of it I am only getting a connection of 0.5 :-(

Now I know my line is a bit bit rubbish (max i'll ever get here is about 1.9) but it has connected at 1.8 a few times but not for a while.

Nothing has changed at home (no new phones etc)

What do you think I should do? It's really annoying being at 0.5 when I know my line can handle 1 -> 1.8 meg with no problems.

Do you think getting BT involved will help? Or will they just come back and say "well we only guarantee up to 0.5"...

Any ideas?
Thanks

It sound to me like you have a few emotional issues. Thats OK because I am a nurse. I believe that you think that Zen is out to get you, but its not! You are merely a victim of bad internet disease and I feel most sorry for you... Nah! I think you should contact BT.

When you say you are 'getting' 0.5meg what does that mean? Is that the speed your router/modem is syncing to your exchange at, or the max speeds of your downloads?

Yeah I'm actually syncing at 1.8 (ish) but my downloads are stuck at 40-45 Kbps.

Is that how it should actually be?

That's very poor. I asume you mean 40-45 KB/sec (?) You would expect higher than that on an old 512 kbps product. Give Zen TS a ring. It could be something reasonably simple to put right (i.e. a stuck profile).

Not funny and untypical of the Zen forum.

Have just got off the phone to Zen Support (John - Excellent). He recommended I plug straight in to the master socket NT5 (after removing the face plate). Unplugged all but 1 phone and used a new filter...D/L speed jumped straight up to 120... interesting... will leave it a few days to see if I can keep a steady connection.

Will keep you posted.
Thanks for (most ) of your replies!

The forums are by and large a good place to get help - and posts like yours do nothing to help.

I think I've warned you before about your posting attitude, but giving you one final chance.
