21CN is same as 20CN?

[link to this post]

After the upgrade to 21CN everything is exactly the same as before with one exception, packets are being dropped making sites hard to load and taking 2-3 attempts.

Upload should be doubled, and my line can handle it, check my sig...

You could try checking your MTU settings - http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/MTU.htm

I had a problem loading a few sites (www.exim.org being one of them). When I changed the MTU to 1492 it worked perfectly.

Edit: What make and model of ADSL router are you using (and have you set the ADSL mode to ADSL2+ or Auto)?

Stuart

MTU on router was 1458, PC was 1500, so changed PC to 1458 and BAM sites loading really fast now.

On the ZEN site they say the connection will be a bit iffy for a week after upgrading to 21CN coz its gotta adapt again.

I used to have BT and had a really bad time with them and panic now if something is not right tongue

Cheers bud smile

Hi Tox,

PM me with your username and I'll have a look at your line from this end.

One thing to note from personal observations here in support - if you're using a Netgear router on 21cn it's always a good idea to make sure it's running the very latest firmware available from Netgear's website; it can make a considerable difference in performance on some lines.

Was about to ring about the upload speed but noticed the upload sync this morning was 888kbps, tried speedtests and FTP client, the upload has doubled, sweet.

So the only problem was my end, both the PC's MTU needed setting to 1458, the router was already set to this, setting this right really makes a difference.

Maybe zen could make a small executable to check and set MTU values, the MTU Tweaker Application on the site doesn't work very well with win7 ... http://www.zen.co.uk/support/tools.aspx ... just an idea.

An executable to edit MTU on recent versions of Windows would be handy - I've no idea what would be involved, but I'll ask around a few coder-types here at Zen.

There are some handy guides for tweaking mtu in Vista and Windows 7 on the following pages:

Speeds kept going up over the last week, in my sig is zen on 20CN on the right is 21CN, well chuffed.

EDIT: 1 MB upload is so useful too when hosting games on consoles or GFWL, works out to about 20+ player slots before saturating.
