Hi all,
Do Plusnet take part in blocking sites that the big 6 block due to the court order?
I know they block pirate bay but they blame this on BT as they go through their system.
http://torrentfreak.com/uk-piracy-blocklist-expands-...
This was the latest court order.
Thanks in advance.

Can anyone use their Plusnet connection to see if access to the Pirate Bay is currently being blocked?

No.
My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 56.4/14.5Mbps @ 600m. - IPv4 BQM IPv6 BQM

That's what I noticed as well yesterday, previously it has been - just wanted confirmation it wasn't an oddity of my connection(I leave Plusnet tomorrow).

What makes you leave Spud?
What ISP you going too?
Is Plusnet worth considering for FTTC 80/20?

I'm out of my Plusnet 18 month FTTC contract, and the best effective rate for 80/20 unlimited broadband and phone(after cashback/vouchers/and other discounts) was not being offered by Plusnet - I should end up effectively paying under £20 month for everything with my new ISP. When that contract ends I will look around again for the best value provider.
I'm moving to TalkTalk residential and we'll see how that goes. Basically if you wade through their bad online reviews(just like Plusnet) the conclusion you'll probably reach is that their products are OK but the overseas support is a bit weak(residential UK support from community forums as an alternative). I don't think I'd recommend them to a customer who requires hand holding or has a problematic line but in my case I hope to be able to cope with any problems they throw up.
I think Plusnet still provide one of the best value options for fibre and they should definitely be on your list.

Given the cheap price TT are good, but don't expect sync speed data rates in peak hours.
plusnet unlimited fibre - 2 Jun 14 - 470m - 80/20 - Summer/dry sync 55/9.4, Winter/wet sync 52/9.1
15 years broadband (1999 ntl:cable trial) - Asus RT-AC68U with HG612 - BQM - Summer PN speed - Winter PN speed

I'm also curious about what differences I'll see in performance, luckily most of my usage doesn't tax my current Plusnet connection to its limits.

Why?
TBB network is fantastic

Total codswallop, i've always got line speeds 24/7 on ADSL2+ & now FTTC with TalkTalk for > 4 years. Perhaps i should leave them as it does get a big boring getting the same speeds ALL the time (ie nothing to moan about). Perhaps i should move to coms? LOL

What's funny is the block is easily evaded and it is only serving to advertise previously unknown sites.

Business is obviously different. I have two friends one on adsl and the other on fibre and they both get slowdowns in evenings. Noticeable but not catastrophic. Main reason I don't recommend TT fibre is the 2mbps upload.

My best speed test under TalkTalk appears to be slightly better than Plusnet - in the lower half of the 70s with a sync of 79987. During the evenings(7PM onwards - haven't checked other time periods) speed tests appear to drop to around 66Mb/s before rising back to the low 70s around 11PM - uploads always pretty steady at around 18.7Mb/s
I'm not the kind of person who obsesses about speed tests and never used to use them regularly with Plusnet so can't provide an in depth comparison. I'm very happy with the performance I'm initially seeing.

I'm getting line speed throughput on TT ADSL, 24/7. Obviously this stuff is sometimes regional, but it all seems fine here.
I do agree with you on the poor 2 meg upload on TT's 40 meg FTTC offering though.
Oliver.

Reviving this thread as tehparadox from Torrentfreak's list now appears to be blocked.
"Access to the websites listed on this page has been blocked pursuant to orders of the high court.
More information can be found at www.ukispcourtorders.co.uk"
Edit - Looks like it was down to routing through BT. a few kicks of the router and now fine.

So a bit like plusnet 80/20 then? unless you really want to keep on hopping from one gateway to another every week or 2

Sorry, I read people having issues, but I've yet to see a problem (see my discussion with RobertoS the other day).
So its the usual case of the people who post on forums having issues, and those that don't probably don't have issues. The real number of people posting regularly on this Plusnet forum is less than 50.
I know two people on TalkTalk retail products (one ADSL, one FTTC) and they get line speed during the day, and noticeable congestion in the evenings. For the price they pay they are happy to accept it, as the prices are very low.

The problem is TT used to naff and it stuck even if it is better. i did look at it before I went to plusnet, but I have had to go through their customer service a few times for different people and I would not want to go through it again.
Plusnet is so much better in that way, well at the moment.

The number of people posting about problems means very little, perhaps they or some have gotten fed up of reporting these peak time issues on forums with no proper solution, or they don't monitor how their connection is performing ,or they unknowingly thing that it's normal and accept it ,the majority of customers will have dynamic IP's which doesn't help with things like the ping monitor
Tonight just before my throughput dropped for no apparent reason, (Saturday night is allegedly their quitest night of the week)I hopped several gateways and eventually i found a less saturated endpoint that at the moment is providing near full throughput for my sync, which proves its plusnets side of things, my throughput currently restricted only by the older type of gateway that for some reason limit the max throughput where as the newer BNG provide a slightly higher max rate the opposite seems to be the case with base latency on older gateways the lowest i've seen is 13ms on the BNG's lowest is 11ms but via some endpoints, same gateway can be 16 ms or higher the highest latency i've come across whilst hopping is around 40
I too am through with plusnet

I too am through with plusnet
I always have what people on these forums call "high" pings, as my line is always interleaved. Unless we have 4 weeks of sunshine.
However I can see congestion tonight on the TBB speedtest x1 but not on the x6 or upload:
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html...
It doesn't actually affect me though. I'm in contract until December - pesky 18month contracts.

Oddly on the gateway i had been on since the 24/02/15 so 4 days at first the multi-threaded downstream and single threaded upstream throughput was affected the downstream mulithreaded had more variation than the single stream was more or less flat lining , and the upstream appeared to actually be pausing or fluctuating wildly, then a short time later the single threaded ds was impacted too,
The gateway was BNG PCL02 iirc, which currently has the highest number of customers connected, not that would have any impact alone on throughput, following hopping gateways throughput was restored to normal
As for their contract length i think ithe min term of 18mths is asking a bit too much for those who already have an active FTTC connection with another ISP who are looking to migrate in, as is them charging £50.00 for connection if they don't want plusnets line rental,
I have worked out that over a 12mth period Zen would work out at £11.24 per month more than plusnet , So a £134.80 Difference over 12mths , that's excluding any cash-backs or half price offers So like for like, including connection fees & broadband only

Been hopping like the Easter bunny this evening, can't shake BT's routing/blocking.
|
|
|
|
Yes iv'e noticed bt's peering in place of what was Level 3 previously , maybe they have dropped level 3, to save money maybe
|
|
|
|
Or even to get away from the many complaints about Level 3 mucking up gaming lag - we can live in hope
|
|
|
|
Well if it improves it then fine, but it may make it worse

Hi everyone,
just have a question, not sure if this is the right thread, but since I'm with PlusNet I thought this might be appropriate.
So I was using this website that I've used while living in Germany and it allows me to watch tv-shows... I've used it a few times over here now and a few minutes ago I keep getting this message:
"Access to the websites listed on this page has been blocked pursuant to orders of the high court.
More information can be found at www.ukispcourtorders.co.uk"
so I go to that website, but its not listed... So I open a different website, similar to the first... and it works the first time I go on it... then when I open it again or try and open a link, the same message pops up again... this has now happened about 4 times... And the weirdest thing is, that I restarted my laptop, accessed the website again and it worked, for about a minute before the message came back...
So I used this website https://www.blocked.org.uk/ to see if it has been blocked, but it said that PlusNet has no history of ever blocking this site... but the weirdest thing about it is still that it seems like I'm being "followed around" and as soon as I access a certain website someone blocks it... Is that actually possible or do I have some kind of weird virus that keeps blocking these websites?
Would be thankful for any kind of advice or info anyone can give me.
Cheers

Talktalk have a system like that which follows you around and led to them being nicknamed Stalk-Stalk.
AFAIK it's technology supplied by Huawei.

Are you using Plusnet's DNS servers or something else?
I saw this post recently where PN are blocking a legal site by DNS.

Possibly because plusnet use BT links or something - it's happened before and then stopped.
Testing eg. kat.ph using root DNS servers gets the blocked page like you see.
On blocked.org.uk it's listed as open for plusnet. Maybe it depends on what gateway/some other routing, or maybe the info is out of date.

Cheers for the answers everyone!
Is there anything I can do to get it back? As far as I know the site isn't illegal or anything...
I've changed my DNS server for Firefox to googles 8.8.8.8. ... would it help to do this for the router aswell?

You can change the DNS on your PC or on the router, you can't do it just for one browser. I always do mine in the router, but either should work.
