I've got a feeling my contract is up shortly, but I've looked in my account area and can't see it specified. It wasn't on the bill either. Where should I be looking?
|
|
|
|
When I log into my account the home page shows the contract details, start and end dates etc.
I have seen reports on the forum that some customers are having problems with this page not displaying correctly, maybe you have this problem which Plusnet are investigating.
|
|
|
I know the last time that I looked at my account on the customer portal it gave details both of the length of my contract and the end date. Thought I'd just double check before replying but there is a problem at the moment ( discussed here ) and I get kicked out as soon as I try to login in

You might try another browser. Firefox refused to display PN account data after about v.70 and had to use Edge or Chrome which worked fine, gave up FF early this year and now using Vivaldi for privacy and have no problems.
|
|
|

OK, thanks - I was on Chrome, but the mobile version, which I've noticed does not always display all sites correctly. I'll try with the desktop version later. It seems like I might have encountered a "known" problem - thanks for reassuring me I'm not going crazy!
|
|
|
Haha! Thanks for that! I've now got the "immediate logout" problem too, so can't double-check what I think I didn't see.
|
|
|
The PN portal is several orders of magnitude beyond sad these days !
Instant logout eh ? Excellent. I tend to have the opposite problem. Click on 'more' to get additional options to display, said options including 'logout' are then displayed. However ... even thinking about moving the mouse to click on 'logout' let alone actually trying to do so instantly closes the displayed list of possible additional options
Logging out is therefore a constant challenge of finding the 'right' combination of keystrokes to manually navigate to somewhere the 'logout' option is displayed and then clicking on it before it mysteriously disappears again pdq !
As for contract end date it should be on the A/C 'home' page ... mine had been 1st January 1970 for several years but now nothing is found. In fact much of old portal info is either missing, wrong or displayed as some form of error message. Every time I regrettably feel the need to login for something or other, it's much the same albeit with different bits not working, other than logout which hasn't displayed properly or worked reliably for absolutely ages. At least that's consistent

Definitely on the Home page after login ... for one I have oversight and management of:
Your contract
24months
Length
24 months
Remaining
11 months
Start date
2nd Sep 2021
End date
1st Sep 2023
Your contract is for your broadband and your line rental. All other products can be changed month to month.

OK,, it was late when I looked, but I'm positive I couldn't have missed ALL of that, so I seem to be experiencing one or more of the problems elsewhere reported. Not sure if there's one or many, but can't review the a/c at all at present.
|
|

I can do most thins there except look at Offers & Upgrades - the rest is fine for me.

Home page after log in is redirecting to Plusnet's home page, not my home page.
"Manage my Account" is just showing extremely basic details of name, address, telephone number and user name - nothing about the contract itself.

General reply.
I am also having problems withy the plusnet pages or specifically just after logging in. Various things about your status are on the screen for about a second, they are then replaced by the black footer..
I have used about 4 different browsers in windows and tried Linux as well. all the same.
However I did find a way that partially gets round it but you have to be very quick. Refesh the page and use the mouse to click on the links in the details that are showing. You can then navigate to most of the pages and they all work.
Interesting that Plusnet have taken nearly a year to (fail to) solve this problem.

I've been using the PlusNet site this morning - all working fine for me.

For a couple of yrs could not access bills using Firefox, had to use Edge. Now with Vivaldi, contract details quickly open on my home page, as do bills and phone details. However the site usually has some problem, like PN's great renewal offer which takes 25 seconds to open then says it's no longer available ...

Thank you. I was sharing my experience of about a week ago. I have logged on this morning and it is working perfectly for me in my default browser which is Brave.
At least I know now when my current deal ends.

I haven't checked again for a week or two, but last time it was definitely still unresolved - and confirmed by a visit to the forums.
Yes, I have this exact symptom - my account home shows very briefly, before being obscured by the black banner, which I believe is actually meant to be the page footer.
I'm not sure my reactions are fast enough to locate and click on a link before the opportunity is denied me!
I'm pretty sure my contract is not up for renewal until New Year at the earliest, so there's no desperate urgency.
But equally, I'm not very happy with the appearance it may never be fixed at all. Surely being able to view one's basic account info is not too much to ask!

You are quite right, it is working for me as of now (20th Nov.)
My contract ends in February. They're offering a Black Friday deal of faster fibre for less than I'm already paying, but I assume that will trigger a new 18-month lock-in. There doesn't seem to be a way to peruse the terms without hitting "Upgrade now".
|
|
|
|
Where is it broken out how much the line rental is?
When I go to the section for upgrades and offers available to me, it shows only the cost for the broadband element, which is meaningless, as I don't think you can opt out of landline provision anyway, unless you move to full fibre.
So what monthly landline rental should I be adding to the prices quoted?

After the end of the contract, the price will go sky-high, you are right, they will lock you into another 18-month contract. I have another 7ish months to go, i don't want to be lock into a long contract either, so I may move to now broadband as they do a good 12-month price. The problem I have is now is Sky, but i know people with them and they seem ok. If plusnet can offer me a 12 month contract at a good price, I will stay with them. Still a while to go, anything can happen by then.

I am also looking at Now as the replacement.
I had an abortive attempt to switch to them before, but at the time, they could not offer fibre, so it all fell through.
I still have my eye on them for next time, especially as I quite enjoy their Video on Demand. Although that is a standalone service - I'm not sure there are any discounts for taking both broadband and VoD with them.

Just checking, are you aware that NOW is sort of PAYG Sky? (Presumably not everything though). For instance the call rates look immense unless you take a package
I subscribe to its Sports coverage (using my own broadband) during the Formula 1 season as it becomes more and more cost-effective as the F1 season expands. A quick look at the above doesn't look it would be significantly advantageous to me, as my mobile broadband router seems to be more stable than my Openreach landline was.
Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro on Three 4+ (LTE)/5G and at home Three Mobile, with (Three)ZTE MF286D router giving about 113/20Mbps.
The best of all possible countries.

No discounts for taking VOD I saw on their site, Get unlimited Fab Fibre and enjoy critically acclaimed shows with an Entertainment Membership, £20 for the Fab fibre and £9.99 for the entertainment thing. The strange thing is their super fibre which is 63Mb/s, is the same price, I would not get that speed here.
A 12 month contract with plusnet is £25.99, that is FTTC 36Mb/s ish, so six squid more than the same with now. But I know plusnet and they have been pretty good to me, so maybe towards the end of my contract I can try and get a little less than that for a 12-month contract. No harm in trying, other wise it will be Now.
When you say they could not offer fibre, I presume you mean FTTP, they still don't seem to offer that.
Still have 8 months left on my contract according to plus net, but it is closer to 7, still a fair amount of time, things can change.
I used to like Now TV, I had the films and entertainment at one point, got films very cheap when I got the device, but i have more than enough to watch to be honest these days.

Didn't know it's part of Sky, no.
Although if the main downside is call charges, it might not make any difference for the number of outbound calls I make.
Although I did manage to spend £7 in a queue to speak to the local council recently.
Edited to add: I do what you do, but with the Entertainment Package, as opposed to Sport. I won't say I can always find something to watch, but there have been quite a few decent dramas, which is my main interest. Some of which have been exclusives.

No, I meant FTTC. At the time I had just ADSL, and at the end of a very long line, at that, so I was borderline even for SD video. Unknown to me, the cabinet was at full capacity, so NOBODY at that time could have upgraded me, but NOW accepted the order, then couldn't do it, so I ended up staying with Plusnet.
I've since finally managed to get fibre - but still with Plusnet. But I could switch to NOW and still keep it.
I'm not that bothered about FTTP. I don't think I do enough to justify it.

Ah, I see, I thought now did ADSL, but maybe they stopped doing it.
I could get about 3Mb/s on ADSL when I was on it, like you I was on the end of a long line, but only because my line doubles back to the old exchange, if it went directly to the newer exchange it would have been a bit better, maybe around 5Mb/s.
I am surprised you did not realise that Now was part of Sky, it was their way to compete with Netflix at the time, but it was not that good, the hardware was ok, it was based on Roku, but the quality was 720P, and I think still is unless you pay extra.
I must admit I am not a fan of Sky, but if needs must.
I kind of agree with you about not needing FTTP, that is the same here at the moment. Now don't seem to do FTTP anyway, they will have to at some point,

NOW did - and I believe still do - ADSL - but I didn't want to move to them just for the sake of it. I wanted to upgrade to fibre, and at the time they were cheaper, so I put in to both switch AND upgrade - which was showing as available. In the event, however, that was wrong, as the cabinet was full. It's since been extended, so I got it after a long wait!

You are right they do ADSL, i missed that somehow, £18 a month, not worth going to just to save a couple of quid, well not worth going to anyway as I would only get 3Mb/s if that. With more people going to FTTP, there should be more space in cabinets for those of us staying with FTTC, that is if FTTP is available. Maybe my connection will improve if enough people leave FTTC, there are at least 3 houses in this street that I can see that have already gone to zzoomm and no doubt some in the next road. Once people know that they can change to FTTP using their own supplier now, they may do that. That means less crosstalk I think in the cabinet.
I am not sure what BT is doing with plusnet, looks like they want to shut it down and move us to EE, I don't want to go to EE.
I am keeping Now broadband on my short list and it is a short list, with 3 providers on it.

Yeah, it makes no sense for BT to continue to operate three brand names! I'm guessing Plusnet will ultimately go, but no idea what the timescale will be for that.
Plusnet tried to scare me with dire predictions about customer service if I went to NOW, but their own is not much to brag about, although it used to be.
When I got dragged into a dispute between NOW & PN about which of them had messed up, I found NOW extremely patient and helpful on the phone, and their side of the story did turn out to be the true one, and not what PN were saying! So really, comparing the two of them, there is no reason to suppose that CS at NOW is significantly worse than at Plusnet, if at all.

It would be a shame if plusnet did go, I must admit Plusnet have been pretty good to me. the last time I contacted them was when my next door neighbour went from BT to Sky and Sky got the address wrong and I had an email from plusnet saying, sorry to hear you are leaving us, right after I recontracted. I had to get hold of Plusnmet to sort it out, they were ok. Next door was not so happy as they had to wait another week or so to get their broadband sorted.
They may be right about customer services with NoW, the last time I contracted Sky, for a friend I felt like I was banging my head against the wall and i think Now uses the same people for customer service.
To be honest, if money was no issue I would go for one of the smaller providers, like Zen, but then I have heard a few bad things about zen over the last few months.
i have a problem with my router now, not sure what to do, I don't really want to get another one from plunet that I may have to change over again in a few months, I want one that I can keep with who ever I go with as changing the smart home stuff is a pain in the neck, even if I use the same SSID.
I will have to have a look at what Now uses as sky uses a different system to connect as far as i know, something called option 61 what ever that is.

If you change the wifi password as well as the SSID all the devices should just carry on. But preferably do it before connecting a new router to anything but a device connected via ethernet. Not even to the landline.
Though via wifi is also possible. Causing connection to be lost until you log back in.

The Echo units will, but the cameras won't, nor will the smart plugs, I tried it before and I had to go around every single one and reset them.
My computer is connected via ethernet, so i can always log in using this.,

But did you leave the cameras and smart plugs powered up and swap the routers before updating the SSID and password in the new router? My emphasis was on updating the new router off-line straight out of the box before connecting anything to it except the updating machine.
