I have placed an order for BT Infinity and presently have FTTC with IDNET. My MAC code was provided and I have been supplied with an activation date of 9th Feb. The homehub3 will arrive in the post.
The question is, will there be an engineer visit or is it for me to plug in the home hub?
The ideal answer is for me to connect the hub to the already present VDSL modem but has anyone been through a FTTC migration that could tell me how it worked for them?
Thanks!

LOL!
See my opening post here.
In the middle of that, you see they insist an engineer visit will be necessary, as they just thought I was a nutter. I couldn't possibly have had the cabinet work done and an Openreach VDSL2 faceplate fitted.

Laughable. I read your post earlier.
What confuses me is the order confirmation says nothing about an engineer visit. All it says is they will confirm when it is active.
My worry is, if I go to work assuming I can set it up myself in the evening but miss an engineer the order might get borked.

Ah!
It could be that just the sales people don't know, and that there really is an FTTC migration process. Did you order online, or through sales?
I have a MAC in my email Inbox.

Perhaps Robertos was the first migration, and they've now got their act together?
A bit fast though if that is the case.
These are the first two FTTC migrations I recall seeing.
As for plugging the HomeHub3 in, then come the expected date if no engineer comes a knocking just plug it and see what happens

This was ordered online and it recognised I had an existing FTTC connection. The MAC was required and entered.
The note I received is.........
Your download speed should be:
40Mb
Your upload speed should be:
10Mb
Find out what can affect your speed at www.bt.com/yourbroadbandspeed
When your service starts
Your service can start at any time up to midnight on the day it's due. We'll let you know when it's ready.
That makes it look like nobody is coming out (which i'm happy with).
I will update this post with the outcome on 9th Feb.

When I migrated from Aquiss FTTC to BT Infinity the engineer didn't come out they just sent me an email and text saying I was connected.
BT Infinity
300m to cabinet
37.7mbit down / 8 mbit up

Same reply as maniac, but I didn't get a text. I think I got an email a few hours after I actually got connected though. I seem to remember just rebooting my modem and router and entering some details in my router (as I don't use Homehub). All worked great.

Hi RobertoS,
I have posted this in the other thread and I don't mean to cross-post but I paid a small contribution to end my contract with the original Entanet reseller, but then I paid a £1 admin fee to join AAISP. I didn't pay any other installion fee (which was usually around the £75 to £100 ball park figure with AAISP).
I left AAISP for free and joined BT without any installion fee, but also had £25 back I think via topcashback. I also had a discounted rate for 3 months (Infinity option 2- unlimited with 10Mb upload.)

Coincidently I'm in the process of migrating my FTTC service from Idnet to BT and my activation date is today but as I feared BT seem to have cocked it up already.
At 1.40 AM this morning I received an email saying my BT infinity broadband was now live and checking the BT website at the more reasonable hour of 11am the "Track your order" page has disappeared and under "My services" it insists my migration has taken place.
I beg to differ as I'm very much still an Idnet customer as it stands.

Have you tried the Home Hub?
As this is a WBC migration it might be as ADSLx ones, both services can be live for a while at the same time.

I've not lost sync or PPP and my IP address is still the same it's been for the last 18 months.
Still think it's worth trying the HH?

I had what RobertoS suggested.
Both of my services were live. I no idea how that worked out but it happened on both occasions, and power down of the OR modem followed by new user details in my router got me up and running on Infinity. I left the OR modem off for around 20 minutes only because I had other things to do, and thought it may change LNS.

Yes. Or change the login details in your router if that's what you intend to use. As per colesy.
The HH seems easiest as a test though.

Am I correct in thinking the login details for my own router would be - [email protected] and no password?
|
|
|
I'm not sure on the one you suggested, but I think you can either use [email protected] as the username, or [email protected]
The password can be left blank but on my Netgear you had to put something in, which was any word you like.

Cheers colesy. I'll go and try it now.

My highest speed is with BT Infinty.
The entanet resellers speeds were not so good as I had a congested node.
AAISP were good speeds, but when I had routine maintenance on their system, the profile on AAISP would often limit my speed to 33Meg. It was an automated setup and a quick email or phone call to the support guys would sort it out straight away, apart from the weekends when there wasn't any support staff in.
I do miss the static ip though, and I don't use p2p but everything has been great on Infinity.
|
|
|
Well that's surprised me.
You were both correct. I rebooted the modem and changed the PPPoE login details on my router and low and behold I've now got a new IP address and presumably I'm connected to Infinity.

Plusnet is dynamic as well as standard. Only £5 one-off to have static, but not available on the 2Mbps upload product. The 10Mbps upload is another £5pm, and would largely defeat the object.

Run speedtest.net. That tells you the ISP.

This is three of us leaving IDNet in a very short space of time. Why is this?
Mine is just cost for no significant benefit as long as nothing goes wrong, not sure from a few posts seen over the last 12 months that IDNet would be perfect if it did, and a nagging feeling that it isn't quite as fast as it should be.
A slight worry that Plusnet may also be slower than Infinity and also dubious support and network resilience. But at the moment feel more inclined to them due to a fear of the B adT otalitarian. Also cheaper in the long-term.

This is three of us leaving IDNet in a very short space of time. Why is this?
For me it was the strict, almost draconian, approach by Idnet to peak hours and the bandwidth limits.
Towards the end I was tired of "rationing" my internet usage.
|
|
|
|
I think that is the trouble. If the kids or the wife get home during the weekday and want to use Itunes, iplayer, youtube, online banking, online shopping or whatever they don't really know how much bandwidth is consumed on a daily basis.
I don't download much, but at least 8gig gets used per month when I am away in work on people just doing the daily routine.
No more watching the allowance, or thinking I need to download this that and the other after a certain time. Especially when it comes to gaming and downloading demo's and patches.
Piece of mind.

Well fairly convincing between those ones! Thanks .
I certainly don't want to start off with one that is slowish, with the Olympics coming up.
The converse of course is that Infinity may be the biggest sufferer when those come along. Or WBC itself will clog up so all will be affected.
