With the new upgrades available for existing & new customers I tried to choose to upgrade my BT Infinity Option 2 package via the website today.
Firstly, it didn't recognise my phone bill (Phone number & account number) saying that
"This line is no longer used by you, please select another line or enter Phone Number and Postcode." But it is my line & has Infinity on it already.
So went down the Enter details of another Line route, and got the following:
"Good news! We predict your download speed will now be 39Mb/s and your upload speed will now be 6Mb/s"
Which is what I have already.
I know it states underneath " For some customers the new speed may not represent an increase to current speed." But should I still choose to upgrade or not?
Last bit honest!
I can't sign in to BT Fon to activate the BT Wireless option.
Even though I've copied & pasted the username & password from my BT emails, it says Authentication Failed. Invalid username or password.
anyone else had issues with that?

You're probably too far from the cab.
I wasn't sure, seeing as it's only approx 400-500 meters away.
A guy I know from another forum is a BT engineer and installs the lines for people & he said, that if you hit near the max speed on 40mb, then you'll be hitting 75mb once upgraded no problem with the circuits they install.
Just hoping to find some clarification

The original line checker for me said I would get 27mb down and 2mb up. I get 39mb down and 8mb up....
The new line checker says I should get 47mb down and 10mb up.... So will report back what speeds I am actually getting.

Expect the end user has no idea of the speed they're syncing at. You might be syncing at 41/11.
What does the wholesale checker report?
You could unlock the modem and retrieve the stats.
IP Profile for your line is - 38.71 Mbps
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 10 Mbps
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 39.9Mbps and upstream line speed of 6.5Mbps.
Do I need to log into the Wholesale checker at all? Or just use the Availability Checker like above?
No need to login. I reckon 40/10 is the max you'll be able to get as the wholesale checker has already been updated to support 80/20 estimates.

Hi Gazanimal... I found this thread as I had the same experience as you.... It says "Good news! We predict your download speed will now be 19Mb/s and your upload speed will now be 5Mb/s"...
That's almost exactly what I currently get.
So the million-dollar question is - should I click "upgrade" or not? I don't want to start a new contract for no improvement.
If you do decide to go ahead, can you let us know if you see any improvement? I will do likewise. Thanks!

Sure Bob.
I went ahead & clicked the upgrade button. It's not going to cost & I `may` get an increase, if not I've not lost anything as I'm only 1 month into my contract anyway.
I'll see what happens, if anything.

Same problem here!
Try phoning 0800 022 33 22 as I did today and they will give you your username and password (they were completely different from what I had been entering).
However, took me 30-minutes of holding before I got through, but NO Indian Callcentre !
Good luck

Was meaning to add- Also on Option 2 Infinity and mine also reported that, but I put the Order through (by phone) anyway.
Let's see what happens in my promised 24-Hour Window for the upgrade...

Thanks G3UZF.
I might give them a ring tomorrow or next week, depending upon if this `upgrade` works or makes things worse.

I just upgraded mine. All it took was a 3 minute call to 0800 800 150 and I was told the speed increase will occur within the next 24 hours.
The best bit was that the "tie in" is only for 12 months.
I questioned this, and she confirmed that it was for 12 months from the end of the telephone call (when the new contract is started)
I am a very happy man!
Must resist running speedtest until tomorrow!

Distance/attenuation form the cabinet is just as relevant as ADSL2x distances from the exchange. There is no guarantee that an upgrade to 80/20 will give any downstream increase at all, if the line is already at exactly its peak. Anything between 40 and 80 is possible.
I'm on 39999Mbps sync with 38.72 profile, at 600 metres from the cabinet. It was the same on 8c.
My modem stats give a "Max" of 51-52Mbps, as does the BT Wholesale checker. From the way that sort of thing behaved on ADSLx, perhaps I would get 53Mbps?
Certainly not 75Mbps!

Well just had two disconnects, and now my speeds have indeed increased:
http://speedtest.net/result/1891173721.png
Not doubled, but I averaged approx 37-38mb/s Down & 8-9mb/s Up.
So I'm happy

Hello All,
just checked on BTs site to see what speed upgrade id get & its saying
59.0Mb download
20.0Mb upload i went for the upgrade yesterday online but im sure it said i would have to renew my contract for another 18 months, can someone confirm if this is correct please or am i wrong.
That's right, you have to start a new contract.
ok thanks for that, i dont mind that as its a very stable connection & if im geting another 20meg on my download for free thats fine, just have to wait for the upgrade now.
Mine took around 12 hours
My email said if i don't here from them within 5 days to call or email them what s
peed you getting .
Full speed
thats good at moment i get 38 meg but i was a little confused when new speed said it would only be 58meg, thought i would get full speed as well as im nearly geting full speed now.
My email said that too. I requested the upgrade Thursday afternoon, still waiting.
The website order tracker shows "in progress" with due date tomorrow.
Just had to reset the HH3 yet again due to download speed drop to 3.5 - I wish they could fix that issue! Wonder if the drop will be to 7 when the normal speed doubles?
so why are some people geting upgrade same day or 12 hours later & we have to wait 5 days not fair .lol, let me know how you get on please & what speed you get.
Cheers
James.

How can i check my sync. I have the home hub 3 and that does not show the sync speed

It isn't the router that gives you them on FTTC, it is the Openreach modem. But Openreach have locked it down so you can't get at them.
The Huawei 612 has been hacked to get at them, and other things. That's how we do it. The ECI modem which is used in some areas has not, so we can't get them from that.
If you have the Huawei 612 as on this page, then the instructions are in the panel on the right, and the required firmware is in the next link down - "Unlocked firmware images".
If you do that then you have command-line access to full stats, and there is also a set of graphing tools available elsewhere, (not on that site that I know of), to do a running check of various things.
If that's all beyond what you feel happy doing, then the nearest you get is running the BT Performance tester, which when it is in a good mood gives you the IP Profile. That is just above the speed you ought to get on real downloads.

My IP profile has now been increased and speedtest.net shows 74.9 down and 16.2 up
However, the BT speedtester shows no improvement on my old speeds, and the Thinkbroadband tester shows only 45 down (a slight improvement) and only 6 up (was 8.4 before according to speedtest.net)
Are the BT and Thinkbroadband testers unable to cope with the new speeds?
The order tracker shows my upgrade as completed, but there's no change to my performance. I still get 21mb/5mb, even after a restart of the VDSL modem. That sucks!
nice speed im still at work so will have to check when i go home what speed im geting.
Don't understand why the TBB checker still gives such a slow result though?
Speedtest.net is giving consistent results anyway
And the BT checker shows my profile has been updated, even if it doesn't return the big numbers in the test!

download 2 or 3 of the 1gb files on here at the same time might get an idea of what speed your really geting.
