Home Hub settings

Does anyone know if its possible to set the Home Hub up to have a higher target snr, and if it is how to do it?

I tried it and it seems to work fine with the home hub.

I myself have tweeked my SNR Margin down as it has now risen to 9 but with the tweek it normaly comes in around 6.5 - 7

nope that is set by BT at the exchange as far as I know.

Have you typed this the wrong way around?

My understanding is that as it's a Signal to Noise ratio you want the highest number you can get not the lowest. Your post is written as if you've adjusted it to have more noise than signal.

No that was the case with fixed line speeds,

now you want the lowest the better well as close to 6Db as you can get.

Need to be careful over terminology - SNR versus SN Margin.

Most routers when active on ADSL will report the SN Margin - i.e. the amount the current SNR is ABOVE the threshold needed for the line to work.

Therefore SN Margin of 12.0 indicates an excess of singal-to-noise of 12dB over and above what's needed to hold the line at it's current speed (probably reflecting an SNR of 18.0 or so).

It does seem that the Home Hub "somehow" is working to set the sync speed with a nice healthy lump of excess signal strength left over.

In my case, the USR Router held 8192 for weeks and the Hub has gone down in increments to 6520 and there it is staying. Also, my speed tests have gone from 5MB ish to 2.5-3MB over the same time.

I'm waiting on a new hub as this one has the dead-wireless syndrome so will see if the replacement is any different (due 31st).

That reminds me, I need to chase AGAIN re my Openzone activation mail, promised a week ago......

I actually wanted to raise my snr margin a little - i was getting drops a bit too often since my migration & switch to the home hub.

It seems the kit at the exchange has noticed though & raised my target SnR a bit - I've dropped a meg (down to 6 again) but line is solid once more

When I was with PlusNet my SNR was alwys 6 and I never had stability problems.

The BT Home Hub was very conservative (20+) so I have set it to 10.

My downstream Bitrate has gone from 3.6 to 5.1 so in a day or two I should be synching at around 4.5 or so.

Could you make a post about how to use this utility? It looks very interesting and potentially helpful, but at the moment all of the information it displays means nothing to me!

Bit of topic, but can someone tell me how to set the router time correct? Been looking but can't seee where to change it. (the menu system is total [censored])
