At least if you're a home user who doesn't need static IPv4 addressing. Still waiting to see what other smaller ISP's who use BTW may offer but I have a feeling the pricing will be approximately twice that of BT Consumer because of the rather high priced wholesale pricing.
|
|
|
|
Yeah i'm trying to figure out if i can get around the need for a static IP address. Currently the only benefit for me having one is to be able to connect in to my VPN.
I'll most likely go ahead this evening with the Gbit, via BT and use a dynamic DNS.

Still a fair bit to fork out per month to be honest. If you really need the speed then fine. I would not pay out that amount of money for a faster speed.

It's like I have quoted a few times before Adrian.

Exactly that, i've been paying £100 + VAT for the past year for the FTTPoD, this feels like a bargain!
Just tried to place the order, looks like i'll need to call them up - transferring from a cerberus FTTPoD to a BT FTTP line. I need no longer than 1 day downtime...
|
|

Because with a nice car you do actually get something better. With broadband so fast you cannot possibly get any noticeable benefit, what's the point?
If you need to get rid of excess money, there's plenty of useful ways to do that .

As for my current miserable 1Mb down and almost zero upload I will be taking up the full package just because I can when it comes available to me..

So I guess now i'll be getting 900Mbps FTTP & 900Mbps Cityfibre (when its available to order).
Will that be a little OTT?
Ive waited 10+ years, I dont care about the cost im getting maximum speed.
I may well mellow after the contracts expire.

|

I'd buy either one.
Now I just need to have FTTP piped to my house.

currently on 300mb and ordered 1gb for the same price that i'm paying with a reasonable discount negotiated out of contract last year. not sure if it's a BT thing to drive 1gb adoption for marketing or just a bog standard customer retention ploy but the rep on the phone wasn't difficult at all talking down from the original quote of 69.99 for an existing customer.

Hope I can do likewise. .Don't really need it, but already paying £60/month so if it's the same, that'll do me.
The pricing is a little surprising - almost no diff between 500mbit and 1gbit indeed suggests they want to push the latter, and juice their stats a bit.

Wow!
Well that is a bit of a showstopper. I can tell the wife I am downgrading (its cheaper than FTTPoD) whilst upgrading. Nearly as good as the bike shop doing prices on receipts based on what you said you paid.
We run a set of holiday cottages. The 500/1Gbps don't appear on business tariffs but we often get put on domestic stuff as we live on site. Can anyone comment on:
- any AUP/fair use stuff. We pull about 2 TB/month, biggest was 2.8TB and with schools off and the kids mainlining netflix this will go up.
- any BT contention issues that are likely to slow speed, I guess with minimum of 450Mbps my slowest would faster than my fastest
- am I likely to get pulled as a business rather than a domestic when we have 70 network devices and the guests can bring another 70 with them.
And what new router should I get to replace my USG-Pro-4 which will struggle to keep up with that. (waiting on UDM-Pro equivalent, really like the single view on network stuff, even though we have hops on AirMax stuff so use UNMS and UniFi portals).
I maybe should be cutting back right now with no guests coming for the foreseeable but 1Gbps would be awesome after so long with [censored]!

BT should have cancelled that plan - due to coronavirus to ease network capacity in UK
Hope Boris Johnson bring in toughter laws to get all of us in UK as a maximum capped speed are 40/10 on all FTTC / FTTP / G.fast to ease the network issues as more childrens in UK stay at home and many will be streaming on their TV.

You mean waiting 8 seconds less for a 1GB download is not worth it?? Well I suppose it might be worth it in certain circumstances not suitable for discussion here .
It also boils down to what price you actually get it at, to me 910Mb is a bit over kill even for us here, but I do like the 110Mb upload.
But looking at the Full Fibre 500 from BT (Get 500Mb for the price of 300Mb) is a win win if already on the 300Mb package.
So I might just phone and ask for they best price deal that they can do for both of those packages and go on from there.
Looking at BT's prices going from their 500Mb:73Mb package to their 910Mb:110Mb package there is only a £10 price difference.
You might also need to find out what actual speed that you get, you might go for the 910Mb option but only get 500Mb speeds, BT would still say its still above their "Stay Fast Guarantee of 455Mb", so you need to also take that into the decision when picking a package.

This is weird. I'm still on contract on FTTPoD but I thought I'd check my number/address with BT anyway.
It gives me only three options:
* SUPERFAST FIBRE ESSENTIAL £27.99/m + £19.99 upfront (download speed range 18Mb - 31Mb, upload speed range 3Mb - 5Mb)
* SUPERFAST FIBRE £27.99/m + £9.99 P&P (download 50Mb, upload 10Mb)
* SUPERFAST FIBRE 2 £39.99/m + £9.99 P&P (download 74Mb, upload 20Mb)
The stupid names hide the fact, but I can see from the speeds offered that the first is FTTC and the second two are FTTP. So if BT know I have FTTP, why don't they offer any ultrafast speeds?
The only thing I can think of is that there's very little FTTP in this area currently, so perhaps they don't have sufficient interconnect provisioned for the higher speeds.
Not that I'd buy from BT anyway, so this is all moot

Currently on the phone to them. I have 330/50 currently and their website says I can get the "Full Fibre 1000" package. However when I go to order, I can't. Been on the phone for 10 minutes and haven't spoken to anyone yet.

I'm going to contact sales at Cerberus again and see if they have any more concrete plans ahead yet (e.g. potential pricing or a more precise week or date of when they intend to list the new options). It's been a few weeks since I last asked them, and BT Retail have released their pricing so surely Cerberus must have some idea by now.

Just been on the phone for the last 3 hours to try and get to someone.
First time in the morning I was quoted £73.99, as I'm out of my contract for the 300Mbps package, I said but it costs £59.99 on your page, which the advisor said hold on, came back and said it is for new customers, then I told them well it says £67.99 after that period? He said hold on....ca,e back and said need to go to retention team as they are the only ones that might be able to do something about pricing. Since then been the last few hours on call, mainly it gives up or the line goes silent and then hangs up....

At a guess I assume they're trying to negotiate a slightly better deal than the standard pricing that BT Wholesale are listing, hence why they don't know the commercials on this yet. I could be wrong though, either way I was told that they expect to have the commercials 'in the coming days' so I'll try again later this week.

For new contracts BT retain ownership of the router and will ask for it back so you need to keep it.

I asked if I could have a new service as I have a 4-port ONT and was told that would take weeks and would need an engineer and a new service.
I think that's wrong. They should be able to provision a new service using a second port on your ONT, instantly. At least, I've seen people who've done other ISP-to-ISP migrations like that, by taking new service from another ISP and then either keeping or cancelling the old service.
Probably the person you're talking to has no idea what an ONT is, let alone a 4-port one.
Of course, the proportion of FTTP services with 4-port ONT is going to get smaller and smaller over time, so less-well trained staff will become less likely to come across them.

She said she was on the FTTP team previously and their system definitely wouldn't let her do anything on my account. And that if she could she would as it would mean a sale.
I do think the adSL checker has me listed as having a single port ONT, whereas the one on the wall is a 4-port. So possibly system won't let her book a second service without engineer visit.

I was paying £45.99 for my 330 package. I would ring them back but they have a silly ordering system which means they would have to cancel your current order for them to even be able to see what prices are available. It also clearly says £59.99 on their website.

Ah right, that will be the problem then. Needs engineer visit to confirm that the ONT really *is* 4 port, so that database can be updated, so that order can be placed.
It's probably worth going through the hassle to get this fixed one-time. You'll then have the option to order more services in future should you ever need to.

That's excessively stupid in current times - home visits should be cut down to bare minimums. Surely they'd accept a photo? Esp if you captured the box serial number so they can confirm.

Yeah OK!
Do you have a 4-port ONT? or a single port ONT? It seems certainly that they have no migration process which is madness.
I could push them down a new install. I can handle the visit as the ONT is in my wife's office not mine, and she will clean him thoroughly with anti-bac wipes. However it will be potentially stopped as non-essential leaving me swimming i the wind for the foreseeable.
I could handle a day or two interruption and use a wifi dongle for work as we won't have any guests. My concern is if that dragged into weeks the kids will kill me.

According to my contract (para 5.1 and 5.2), you need to give one calendar month's written notice of termination - even if coming up to the end of the initial minimum term - as it will automatically move to ongoing service.

Not sure what to do, do you fancy doing it first and letting me know how it goes?
Dave
I only have the 1 port ONT, mine was installed 12 months ago.
Sounds like a similar situation to me, kids and wife would go nuts after a few days!
I'm just waiting to hear back from Cerberus regarding the cancellation process and then will make a decision. I assume there isn't any notice period if you're coming to the end of your contract..?
I use PfSense so i all i need from BT is the line activated and that's it. Surely that's almost instant these days....
48 hour activation for me and I already have service from them. you also have to have their router, whether you like it or not. £9,99.

According to my contract (para 5.1 and 5.2), you need to give one calendar month's written notice of termination - even if coming up to the end of the initial minimum term - as it will automatically move to ongoing service.
Literally just dug mine out too, great! another £100 + VAT spend :'(

Correct me if I'm wrong, if everyone starts taking these higher speeds and starts to hammer them on a fully used 32 way split GPON the top speeds are not going to be great.

Is the XGPON the number of houses sharing a connection? I remember the open reach engineer mentioning a 4 port something he installed outside the house and that it was weird they sent him such a small variant...

Standard GPON is 2.4G down / 1.2G up, which could be shared by up to 128 properties but Openreach's build rules share between a maximum of 32.
XGPON is 10G down / 2.5G up; XGSPON and XGPON2 are 10G down / 10G up. These would likely shared by the same number of properties. In fact, they can run side-by-side with standard GPON on the same fibres.
The 4-port thingy installed outside the house is probably a CSP (Customer Splice Point), a little box on your external wall where fibres are joined together.

Correct but the odds of that happening are very slight.

I don't have a CSP, my install Fibre running from the street direct to the ONT.
Just had a google and i was talking about the CBT, only 3 other properties can connect on (4 in total). The fibre cable he plugged in already had one end with a connector on.
I guess this means only 4 properties are sharing the XGPON throughput (inc mine )? If that's the case i'm the only one on this line, the other retired neighbors aren't interested!

Your CBT will have 4 fibres (in one cable) going to a splitter.
In general there will be multiple CBTs hanging off the same splitter. However if this is FTTPoD, it will be just the one, and indeed you'll have the whole PON to yourself, same as me

So I'm rural, I think the thing in the road verge had 4-ports on, is that the CBT I'm plugged into it on the longest ready made fibre they do, it came with one end made up so we had to pull it towards the house. Nobody else is nearer, or within the 350m that longest lead was.
Does that mean I will have the whole PON to myself, forever?
Edit: ADSL Checker is up again. Relevant bits as follows:
WBC FTTP Upto 1000 Upto 220 -- Available KCI2 Assure
Our records show the following FTTP network service information for these premises:- Single Dwelling Unit Residential UG Feed Not Evaluated.
ONT exists with active service. No spare ports are available. A new ONT may be ordered.

Agreed, I have never seen any speed drop that would show that, plus BT has their Minimum Speed Guarantee higher than the speed that it would drop to if everyone got the higher speeds hammered their connection, so I also hardly think it will happen.
But I think only 6 (doing my checks) of the 32 fibres from our Splitter are being used, so I should never see that issue anyhow.

Yes, the thing you're plugged into is the CBT: that's what the C stands for (Connectorised).
Does that mean I will have the whole PON to myself, forever?
No. The PON is the "Passive Optical Network", which means the set of properties sharing the same light signal from a single OLT port in the head-end exchange.
Somewhere upstream of the CBT will be a splitter, and that could be any distance away (the cable comes off a drum and is spliced). The splitter will typically be located somewhere that it can serve other properties. The splitter can drive up to 32 fibres: 4 go to your CBT, the other 28 are spare for now but may be connected in future.
I know how mine is done, because I saw them install it. I'm in a cul-de-sac with 25 properties. The splitter is located in a chamber at the entrance to the cul-de-sac. There are pavement chambers serving 2 or 3 properties each, and there's a CBT in the chamber outside my house.
So right now I have the whole PON to myself (like rman, my neighbours are elderly). But eventually, when Openreach retrofits fibre to the whole street, there will be other CBTs connecting back to the same splitter, and we'll be sharing the PON.

It's like I have quoted a few times before Adrian.
People buy £80k £100k cars to drive around in when a cheap £5k car would do the same job.
My feeling is if you can afford it then why not.
Not really the same as a car, some people buy a 100k car for comfort, some people buy one to show off.
Some people will get faster broadband and yet never come close top us8ing the max out of it. I am ok with what I have got, not that I can get any faster, well I could go for 4G that would or should be a bit faster. I could afford those prices, but I would not pay it just for a bit more speed, not that pure fibre will be coming here for a while if it ever does in my lifetime.

Cerberus pricing is up, and as expected it's higher pricing because BT Wholesale is pricey I guess. 450/70 is the same price per month as FTTPoD, while 900/110 is £144 per month. £48 installation charge.
I think I may go for 450/70. I don't need faster upstream than that, and the Firebrick FB2900 router I use won't process more than 700 megabits as far as I know anyway.

I'm considering cancelling but ceasing the line early.

Yeah understandable, I'd do the same if it wasn't for the fact I need a static IP range. One thing I'll be asking sales is the likely hard limit for bandwidth usage in a month.
EDIT: Clarified, basically would have to consume a lot and it would have to be network affecting before I'd receive a warning. I generally consume around 1TB a month so nothing for me to think about.

Well I've put in a regrade order, but it's going to take 7 to 10 working days apparently to process it :x. Guess I need to be patient. Assuming it starts counting from tomorrow, that should be between the 2nd and 7th of next month.

I spent about 90mins trying today using a couple different numbers, on hold for ages a few times. I got through a couple times. I also got put on hold inbetween those to pass to the fibre team (even though thats the number I used to start with) but that seemed to timed out after around 20mins.
In both cases I spoke to someone the best they could offer me was £65 for Fibre 500 and £70 for Fibre 900, respectively £5 and £10 more than my current Fibre 250 which is about to go off-contract. I asked for better and noted how many folks were getting it for much better, but no budging. They did offer me to continue unchanged for £45 even though thats less than new customers can get 'Fibre 500 for the same price as 300' hehe.
Those prices for the new tiers make no sense (both more than the off-contract pricing for 2 years away, only £5 diff between the two rather than usual 10, etc) and I am definitely not giving them more than I do now when so many can or already did get them for less than that. I am tempted by the £45 Fibre 250 rate, since 330mbit is fast enough really, but I will mull it over before entering into an annoyingly long contract (24m, vs prev 18m) with thwm, and perhaps even wait for Sky to launch theirs. BT messed me around a bit when I got this and arent being so friendly this time round either, so its possibly time to reward their efforts by leaving.

So they can't even get their own pricing right. It clearly says on their website. £49.99 and £59.99.

Which I of course also noted, no effect. They didnt actually play the 'thats only for new customers' card which surprised me a little, it was simply 'this is all your account lets me offer you and I cant do better'. One stated right up front that he was going to look and give me the best deals he could to avoid any haggling, but of course it was the same lousy price as before hehe.
I cant actually do anything online either as it seems some folks can. The regular ordering section offers me them before I log in but says 'no, existing customer' upon checkout, while once I log in as instructed to see deals for existing cusomers the regular section shows nothing and the deals section fails to return anything and says I have to phone. Ho hum, typical.

never fails to amaze me that companies seem to go out of their way to p*ss off existing customers instead of rewarding them for being a customer in the first place. if you have been with bt (say) for years probably in most cases why not reward that unending loyaylty and offer good prices lower than new customers can get.and when the new customers have a couple of years under their belt keep them with a good offer.
|
|
|
Yep, I didnt and wont pay them any more than I already am now. Either they offer the deals everyone else seems to have got or I simply go without Fibre 500 or 900. I will likely either pay a good chunk less for what I have, or if sky launch soon enough I could instead just leave. Either way, in the long run BT are essentially just depriving themselves of some or all of my existing payment.
My area couldnt get 1000mbit FTTP until very recently (this month I think), so I didnt actually expect to be able to order the new products anyway when they launched, it was a pleasant surprise that I would be able to. I know I will very rarely make any real use of something faster than the 330 I have so I dont need the 500/1000, just want hehe. I only had ~3.3mbit until 18 months ago so this still seems ridiculously fast no matter what I have

Well I just got off the phone with BT, was only waiting for 13 mins, so not too bad.
Sadly their systems (to him) was down so he couldn't even do a speed check, but he could see that both the new packages was available for us, but at this time he couldn't process our order / upgrade.
But the guy did confirm that the prices shown was the price that I would pay and that they also include line rental, so if you have the line rental saver just subtract £19.99 from that price.
I was also told to wait 24 hours and try phoning again or try doing it online, I did tell him that I never use the online ordering due to you cannot ask for a good deal / haggle like I have always done in the past with success.

To be clear, when you say "the prices shown was the price that I would pay", what prices exactly and from which section of the site? £49.99 and 59.99 from the initial 'not logged in availability check' after giving a postcode + address? Or some other price from your specific 'logged in deals area'?
I'd love to order online but cant. It seems entirely backwards to ever have to call them. I've yet to successfully get a better deal from phoning them at any point either and the only typical result has been time wasting, except the time they called me and screwed me out of getting a reward card. Yay BT.

Could you be without internet for a few days (use 4g maybe), could cancel and then sign up again as a new customer.
I got screwed when out of a new customer reward card when i moved house, i should of signed up for a new line instead of doing the house switch.
My cerberus line is due to cease on April 6th, and at that point i'll be ordering with BT instantly with the default username/password set awaiting activation (pfsense).

Those prices are the same when logged in and out, I asked the guy on the phone if I upgraded to the "Full Fibre 900" would it be £59.99 p/m that is listed on the site, he checked and said yes, I then asked if that price also included the Line Rental and he said all the prices include line rental.

I have not tried to do the ordering online due to I want to see if I can get a better deal, plus I didn't want anything to screw our connection up. But like I have said, I have always phoned them and got a better deal than what's advertised.

I probably could, although it would be far from ideal at this point (working from home, and most other regular activities now out for a while hehe). The idea had occurred to me, but the mere thought of doing it would be just another reason for me to leave and not come back.
It was a new line in a new build, which didnt show on the website and so couldnt be ordered...they called me, completed the order, and only later said this meant no reward card. They also did it on the only day that they werent charging £5 less for the package, it had went up in price when an offer expiredd and then it went back down afterwards. They wouldnt do anything for me in either case. I really won the lottery that time

Ok, they must really not like me then (see also, last post hehe), there was simply no possibility they were giving me anything like those prices.
I see the same prices when I give the site my address for the availability check, you just cant complete an order if you try. When logged in, if I go to the deals section it just says there arent any personalised pffers, phone us.

It might just be you had somebody having a bad day, they might of had a bad call before yours.
Also I think its where they know I will put up a fuss and not give up, I know now and then when talking to them I hear a different tone after they have read the notes on the account, which will probably say I pestered the CEO and Chairman of BT via email and phone calls on a weekly and some times daily basis (for up to 5 years), also got my local MP involved at one point.
This resulted in them enabling the FTTP for us back end of 2016 (wow don't time go by fast).
But I think it might also be where I am polite but firm, I am never rude to them.
At the end of the day being rude will get you nowhere, that's probably why I have got results for neighbours and friends when enquiring about peoples fibre issues in the past via Twitter.
Plus I work out what I am going to say before hand and possible outcomes, these have helped in the past.
I see the same prices when I give the site my address for the availability check, you just cant complete an order if you try. When logged in, if I go to the deals section it just says there arent any personalised pffers, phone us.
Well the personalised deals page errors out on us which it has done for years (BT has no clue why) which was why I originally started to phone them for the personalised deals.
Plus BT have told me in the past to just phone up to do an upgrade and that you might be able to get a better deal when speaking to them directly.

It might just be you had somebody having a bad day, they might of had a bad call before yours.
True, though I did get through twice via different numbers and although the conversations were fairly different the end result was a similar repeated 'account says this is what I can offer you, I cant do better' . Both were perfectly pleasant and seemed keen to help, but just couldnt offer me better.
But I think it might also be where I am polite but firm, I am never rude to them.
Indeed, I'm not rude either, I know the person on the other end is simply filling a role and is but a small cog in the machine. Its certainly not their fault the system is broken

Thats the same for me then, on the deals page and the 'phone us for better deal' messaging when speaking to them. Alas, I have never got a better deal out of them on the phone, more the reverse.
I'm not as committed as you on the pestering though hehe, especially in this case when I freely admit the faster connection isnt really a need, just mostly an 'ohh, shiny' want and desiring beter value from getting more for the same/less money, since its apparently the new norm which others can clearly get.
Maybe it will change when the contract actually expires soon, though that would seem strange, and annoy given how much they have been contacting me about renewing for weeks (which I didnt, since I knew all this was coming)

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere in the thread. I'm on Zen 300 which is looking very expensive in comparison to these new offerings.
When I put my details into the BT site it's offering me the top Full Fibre 900 package however the BT ADSL checker shows my line at 330/500 maximum.
Don't want to progress an order to be told I'll be on the same speed as before.

Don't do any orders to switch suppliers at the moment tbh. Given the MBORC status Openreach issued due to COVID-19 they are asking suppliers not to switch customers and also given the work restrictions things could mess up. Wait till the lockdown is over - whenever that will be.

I spent all Monday on the phone to them, and they always said the system only allows me to charge £73.99 to your account, even though website stated otherwise. So they put it through at £73.99 and was told I would receive email with the adjustment to £59.99 but I can't see it yet in my account. However my product is already active. Will wait a few more days and then call them up regarding price.

Not sure this advice matches the MBORC.
A change of provider or product tier over the same medium (FTTP) is done remotely and is no risk to engineers or the end user.
It's upgrades from ADSL to FTTC, or new FTTP installs that require engineers to enter properties that will be scaled back or stopped.
OpenReach currently intend on completing already booked FTTP installs at present but that may change.
A switch from an existing OpenReach FTTP service to another OpenReach FTTP should not require any work.
The migration process isn't ideal and can require a cease of 1 service then an activation of the other in some cases, with possible downtime.
It shouldn't need want engineer intervention though.

I dont think any existing bookings for FTTP install will be going ahead from what ive read on the BT forums, i have one booked for 3rd April but im not going to bank on it, I am fortunate to have been on mobile broadband for the last year and currently have EE & 3 sims taking the load.
Its a shame that they couldnt just splice the ONT connectors outside the property and then id happily drill a big hole in the wall to poke it through and id install the ONT inside myself, but I know that wont happen.
Their safety is much more important than my need. It will hopefully all get back to normal sometime this year.
On the plus side this self isolation is my normal day, been working from home for almost a decade.

Some people with FTTP installs due soon, such as those in the process of a house move, had asked what might happen to them. Openreach informs us that they will be trying to complete all orders where an appointment has already been booked.
The operator added that those customers who have no other form of broadband or telephony available will probably be dealt with via escalation channels jointly with their ISP to find a solution, preferably one that doesnt require a home visit.
They're in my street as I speak installing splitter nodes in a couple of the chambers.
My brother does new installs for Fibre First in Edinburgh and is in customers homes today connecting them up.
Situation might change but currently arranged appointments are intended on being completed.

Wait till the lockdown is over - whenever that will be.
oh dear, i've just cancelled my cerberus line.. this wont need an engineer visit so im really hoping all will be ok!
|
|
|
|
All being well it should be, but I'm somewhat glad I didn't go down the cancellation route as it may have complicated matters due to the recent Openreach news. That being said, I still need to wait 7 to 10 working days for a mere change in speed haha. I don't imagine that getting delayed, I hope anyway!

Spent an hour this morning on hold, finally spoke to someone who couldn't access the faster speeds on my account so transferred me through to offline sales. Spent another hour waiting to speak to them. They did a "tech check" and said the fastest I could get was what I was already on, the 300Mb package. And yet when I put my postcode into the BT website, it states I can get up to Full Fibre 900. I wish some other ISPs would hurry up and rollout FTTP, sick of BTs customer service. I very rarely have to contact them, but when I do, its always an uphill struggle.
|
|
|
I didnt get any such option/suggestion but I very likely wouldnt have proceeded if it were raised in that manner, given the outcomes of most dealings I have had with them.
I hope you do get your adjustment without further hassle!

It turns out it's just part of the BT site which hasn't been upgraded.
https://www.bt.com/broadband/availability/ still only offers the packages I showed earlier.
However, https://www.bt.com/broadband/deals says "Great news - You could be doing more online with Full Fibre 900" - with my address - and *does* show all the products up to 900. (But oddly, not the 80/20 package).
Well whaddya know: today https://www.bt.com/broadband/deals offers me Fibre Essential (FTTC), Fibre 1 (50/10) and Fibre 2 (74/20), but *not* the higher speeds any more.
Looks like they are having problems building a reliable and consistent availability checker.

Was you already a BT customer?
Yeah, it was just a speed regrade 300>1000. Was supposed to go through yesterday, so hoping it's just an admin delay, rather than needing engineers at some point in the chain.
|
|
|
That might possibly explain why I've been advised 7-10 working days then by a different ISP, as I thought it should be a fairly simple change to just regrade the connection speed. Interesting to know, although delays of course aren't ideal.

I have just spoken with someone from BT who advised the team dealing with the line regrades is in lockdown and any regrades are being delayed - I was also under the impression that the speed regrade would be a background change and would have thought that it would be available for any of their team that were homeworking?

Not really a problem - I only got better than 16mbit in Dec 2017

I went from 2Mb to 300.....no need for 900 but why not tbh! I wont be pushing it too hard as there are more important things to worry about atm!

I'm also on Zen 300/50, which is expensive compared to these new tariffs.
I'm out of contract in a week or two, so spoke to BT FTTP sales this morning.
However, they can't tell me what I can get (despite the main BT website offering Full Fibre 900). Why? Because the OpenReach Wholesale Checker is down......so they said to try again next week....I suspect OR are quite busy at the moment!
BTW, why Fibre 900 and not 1000?
|
|
|
BTW, why Fibre 900 and not 1000?
Overheads of various protocols involved, and then it's also capped by 1gbit connector in the router.
Guessing real world we'll get 930 or something? I'm sure that'll suffice
|
|
|
BTW, why Fibre 900 and not 1000?
Because otherwise people will whinge and claim they're not getting what they paid for, when speedtest shows 942Mbps
That is the payload throughput you get when you saturate a 1Gbps ethernet connection, after taking off TCP, IPv4 and ethernet headers, with a 1500-byte MTU.
|
|
|
|
Ah, of course - makes sense! Thanks both

So I assume in however many years time when > 1Gbe services are available that everyone will have to have their ONT replaced as it wont be a > 1Gbe LAN port I wouldnt have thought.

So the BT site states I can get the 500 or 900 packages that have just been released. However when I go to https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/ it states Upto 330 for the WBC FTTP product.
Is this wrong or do they still need to upgrade something at the exchange?

Well I am on Full Fibre (FTTP) and up until today it was showing the Full Fibre 900 package for us, even the BT Guy confirmed it was available, but now its only showing up to Superfast Fibre 2 (i.e. 74Mb) so BT Site is broken at the moment.

I've seen various antivirus products affect these web based speed tests. Also browsers are now trying to optimise JavaScript so will make different results.
I always use a Private Browsing / Incognito window to run a web speed test, and try on a mobile device as well as on a computer.
If you have a machine with a clean install of your operating system without any third party security software, always worth a try, with an Ethernet connection as well.

Just waiting for BT Staff to start work before I phone to do the upgrade.
Ok, just got off the phone to BT (total time 1h, 30m), I spoke to the FTTP Sales Team which took about 15 mins in the queue, sadly after 20 mins explaining the issues and them doing the tests etc, due to issues possibly on our account they couldn't process my order.
At this point I was a bit disappointed, but I don't give up so easily LOL
So I asked if I could be put through to their offline team that has fixed ordering issues for us before, was in another queue for about 30 to 40 mins, I ended up being put through to the Sales Support Team where I spoke to a lovely lady who said that they have master control on the system and that they deal with orders that have issues processing orders etc.
*** Here comes the good news ***
I can confirm its available and that ours is scheduled to go live at midnight on the 27th so on, so on Saturday we "should" be live.
And then another day or two for the new Smart Hub to arrive, but my current router "should" be fine.
Now as for the pricing, I won't say how much we will be paying (might be a special price for us), but it was less than the £59.99 p/m (inc line rental) that was displayed on their site.
Seems we will be paying the exact same price we was paying for our 300Mb connection, maybe our old price was not as cheap as it could be who knows.
So now the wait continues, I will post speedtests once it goes live.

Is there a separate sales support number to call?
I wasn't given an external number for them sorry.
I just called their FTTP Sales team on 0800 587 4787
The Sales Support lady told me if I have any issues in the future to ask the person I am speaking to to put me through to them.
But in my case it was available for our address, just that I had issues on our account (which we have had from the start), if their site says its available to you you could just phone them up and see.
I must say be prepared for a long multiple queue waits, I had a few glasses with drinks in and a sandwich to eat while I wait, TBH I did expect to be waiting longer due to less staff, but it wasn't that bad.

I spent 2 hours on hold to them yesterday and when I did finally speak to someone in "offlice sales", she said the system was only showing 300Mb as the fastest I could get. I know it's the ultimate first world problem so I'll just wait. I'm out of contract and paying £59.99 pm for what I'm on. She did offer it to me for £45 pm but I'd have to take out a 2 year contract and I've read of people in contract who upgrade speeds having to pay the full price for it so I've just hung off for now.

Still no further forward. The only thing that's improved is the wait times on the phone!
She was adamant the fastest I could get was what I was on and wouldn't transfer me to the sales support team. She even then had the cheek to offer to sign me up for a contract for the same price as I'm paying just now!
We badly need a bit of competition in the FTTP sector, not only for prices but just for alternatives as BT, while I have never had technical issues, their customer service is garbage.

Yeah I did wonder that myself, when we upgraded to FTTP a few of our neighbours also upgraded to FTTP the same time as us, 2 being with other providers and all the BT ones was done within a few days for the first install and then another 7 days for the internal work, now those with other ISP had to wait longer.
So there are differences it seems.
Yeah I am sure it will go live on the 27th at midnight, but we did have the FTTP go live the day before they said it would go live, so who knows.

The unlucky few - about 50,000 properties - are on ECI OLTs which won't provide faster than 300M (because the interconnects are 1G not 10G)
Can you see on your ONT what the manufacturer is? It's not always the case, but if you've got an ECI ONT then it's more likely an ECI OLT at the exchange end.
|

I thought I'd check what my address showed up as on BT's website. Today it says I can't get full fibre although the other day it said I could get Fibre 1000. So something is screwed up at the moment (at BT Wholesale's side?).
I checked another ISP's 'checker' and it tells me I'm able to get 1000/220 as the DSL checker would also normally do if it was working. their checker even tells me my ONT serial number, location notes, status of the ports, and such, but I do have a login which their more 'detailed' checker requires. The more basic checker which doesn't require a login doesn't show that kind of information when checking an address.
These things are bound to happen with the Coronavirus pandemic and lockdown I guess, patience is a virtue.

Gave mine a shot on fast.com.
Single thread provides 940 Mb/s.
Multiple gives 1 Gb/s.
I think they include some overheads in that as, of course, a gigabit of actual goodput is impossible.
Seems to be fine either way, and if it maintains this through the evening well played BT.
It is very, very difficult to saturate the full connection which is absolutely the point.
Building better networks, not just faster ones.

Then that's probably why you cannot get it, minealong with others >> shows << the faster speeds.
I think the reason why you only see the 74Mb package is due to you can only get up to 300Mb and BT no longer sell that, Ultrafast Fibre 250 was replaced with Full Fibre 500, sadly you cannot get the 500Mb due to your area hasn't been upgraded as yet.

I think the reason why you only see the 74Mb package is due to you can only get up to 300Mb and BT no longer sell that, Ultrafast Fibre 250 was replaced with Full Fibre 500, sadly you cannot get the 500Mb due to your area hasn't been upgraded as yet.
I don't think that's true: you'd still get 300M in a 300M area, and don't forget the 150M package.
I found the same for my line: a couple of days ago it showed 900M available, now it only shows up to 74M. It suspect it's a systems/database bug.
I guess it *might* be a decision to withdraw the higher speeds in some areas to reduce pressure on their callcentres in the current climate - although that would likely have the opposite effect, as people will now call in to try to place their order instead of placing it online!

Well I am not too sure where the issue is at, I know the 3 people I spoke to (1 on the 24th and the two people today) all saw it was available to us, sadly the site said I could only get Superfast Fibre 2 (i.e. 78Mb) and their checker (not the BTW checker) said I cannot get Full Fibre, yet when I logged in and looked at our package it said we was on Fibre 250 and a bit further down said it was using their Full Fibre system or something like that.
But yeah I agree, that's why I was relaxed and waited that long time in the second queue, at the end of the day we are lucky that they are in work in the first place.
The BTW Check is even down to me for looking up via address, but I can still do lookups by the Nad Key etc

Oh I forgot about the 150Mb one
But yeah there is an issue on their site though, like their different sections where they check if you can get it, one will say that you can get Full Fibre - Superfast Fibre 2, and then another checker on there would say no full fibre available in my area but still says Superfast Fibre 2.
I think they tried to remove the new packages from the list and hope nobody saw them.
And they have renamed all of those products so that's prob why the Fibre 150 was also not showing.
But this is all guess work here so I am probably completely wrong LOL

My ONT is behind a unit so I can't get access to the back of it. It does look like this one..

Thanks, did that. And bizarrely it's listed as Openreach fibre not available. Despite me having had FTTP since late 2017! I do see a mixture of Huawei and ECI.

Beware that this may not be correct in all situations. For example, I have an ECI FTTC cabinet but the OLT and ONT are both Huawei (for FTTP). Codelook recognises that some of the postcode has FTTP (from my FTTPoD build) but doesn't seem to recognise that it's Huawei technology.

It is, for peak speed. But it's still just GPON (2.4G down, 1.2G up, shared between up to 32 users) so the upstream in particular is highly contended.

Paul
Now you are just taking the mick
I might give it another shot at some point, as you are now *yet another* person to get it for less than the listed £59.99, vs them keep offering it to me for 70.
I guess perhaps you are a further person (at least 3 so far) to get it at 55? At least that was the 'special' price it was every day of the week except the one they called me on to complete my order in 2018.
They had been selling the 330mbit for £50 at least in recent weeks, making their '500 for the same price as 300' note on the new listings about the only thing theyve been consistent on (other than the fact they now offer to price the 300 at £45 for those of us who already have it )
|
|

Now you are just taking the mick
LOL, well its not gone live yet so anything can happen still, MyBT says the new contract starts on the 27th, I assume that midnight on the 27th, the SmartHub 2 which will probably stay in it box until needed is in transit still.
I also asked for a return bag to send the old SmartHub (still in its box), I didn't need to return it due to that wasn't in the terms when I was given it, but I did tell them they won't get it any time soon due to I cannot go out, she told me no rush.
I might give it another shot at some point, as you are now *yet another* person to get it for less than the listed £59.99, vs them keep offering it to me for 70.
Yeah I did say to the Sales Support Lady that some people are being told a price way higher than the price quoted on the site, she didn't seem shocked.
I guess perhaps you are a further person (at least 3 so far) to get it at 55? At least that was the 'special' price it was every day of the week except the one they called me on to complete my order in 2018.
What makes you think we got it for £55 LOL, or was that the 300Mb pricing, I don't track the pricing once we have renewed, I know the price was very good at the time and was a lot lower than what was shown on teh site at the time.

Yeah when I saw the 500Mb for the price of 300Mb, we was going to go for that if the price for the Full Fibre 900 was quoted more than what was displayed, at least there shouldn't be a price increase going from 300 to 500, so I was shocked when she told me the price for the 900.

£54.99 is the cheapest I think I've seen folks admit to getting Fibre 900 for (more than 5 people now I think). Thats also what they were charging [everyone else except me] around Sept/Oct 20018 for the 330mbit.

Success! After [another] 90mins on the phone this morning with them, I have a Fibre 900 order under way for £57.99.
I got through within a couple of minutes at 8am this morning, got a nice lady who tried hard to assist me but couldnt, as 'The System' said I couldnt even get Fibre 900 or even Fibre 500, despite them already trying to sell me it and the website still saying I could when I tried it fresh (I omitted to mention that I tried twice in different browsers and one didnt offer it!). She tried to discuss it herself with the support team while I was on hold, but after another 20mins said she would need to pass me off to their queue. She did so with notes that included that I should be charged 59.99.
I held for ages again and got through to the sales support team. They spent a loooong time verifying that I could indeed get Fibre 900 and said that they would match the 59.99 on the site. They spent a loooong time again trying to place the order, and came back to say they were having issues but still trying. Eventually they came back and reported it was done, except for one small issue, that 'The System' wouldnt let them charge me £59.99. So they charged me £57.99 instead, lol.

Success! After [another] 90mins on the phone this morning with them, I have a Fibre 900 order under way for £57.99.
Nice, glad you got it sorted.
All we need to do is now wait for it to go live, the new Smart Hub 2 arrived this morning which looks a fair bit different than the old Smart Hub.
But its probably still locked down like the old one, I will be statying with my own router for now due to it just works fine and does all what I need.
Yep, that sounds like the same issues the first person I spoke to yesterday had, they also put info in our notes before they transferred me over to their Sales Support Team.
I held for ages again and got through to the sales support team. They spent a loooong time verifying that I could indeed get Fibre 900 and said that they would match the 59.99 on the site. Eventually they came back and reported it was done, except for one small issue, that 'The System' wouldnt let them charge me £59.99. So they charged me £57.99 instead, lol.
Yeah my second wait time was about 40 mins, I didn't really need to do much, I just said I phoned on the 24th to upgrade to Full Fibre 900 for £59.99 shown on the site and that the FTTP Sales team confirmed it was available at that price, but had issues with the system and that it was the same with the first person I spoke to before her.
She did a few checks and said yes its available and she then went through all teh T&C etc, I asked to confirm the price and she told me the price that I will be paying and I was like WOW that is cheaper than what is on the site, I then said I think that might be either cheaper or the same price we are currently paying for our 300Mb, she said that she would check after the order was put through, which all went through fine.
And when she told me what we was paying, I was like its the same price for triple the down speed and double the upload.
So the price I was given I didn't even have to haggle for a deal, a few friends said I should of asked for a better deal, I just laughed at them and said NOPE LOL

looks like with specific firmware you might be ok with the r8000 - https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Rout...
when replacing my old router i was looking specifically for hardware accelerated nat (aka CTF/flow control) that will support gigabit speeds from WAN to LAN over pppoe.

No, I am paying £2 less, I've been paying £59.99 for 330 because the '£54.99 for 18 months' offer expired like the day before they eventually called me to say things were sorted out so I could actually order FTTP (took a few weeks). Then another offer started like the very next day. I called and asked but they wouldnt give me the offer. Even though by phoning me and processing an order over the phone, they also screwed me out of getting the Reward Card! I forget how much it was exactly but it was huge, like £125+ I believe.

You should look into setting up a PfSense router and using your current router as an access point.
By far the best router i've ever used - though it's not plug and play like the off the shelf routers. So it really depends on your technical ability.

Just a heads up to people that have managed to order the upgrade, good luck in getting it go live at the moment.
Checked this morning and it still hasn't gone live yet, MyBT says it's on the 27th up to midnight, sadly this didn't happen.
Just got off the phone to BT (only 2 mins wait) and I was told its stuck at BT Wholesale sadly the people that deal with this are based in India and they are not in the office, and they are the only ones that can do this.
Not too sure if its due to being its Saturday or he was referring about the issues that going on atm.
So it seems that all of these open orders will remain open until they are back at the offices, which could be months.
What annoys me a little is that BT should of known this when I made the order and could of told me there might be delays, I am fine with that but nothing was said.
I am just hoping its due to being the weekend.

At least with a delayed regrade you continue to have your original service.
Someone who ceased service with a different ISP and re-ordered with BT could find themselves in a difficult spot right now.

Some router chipsets can't handle the required NAT performance when you have gigabit speeds - it requires certain hardware acceleration to achieve 900Mbps NAT throughput. Also on some routers enabling features like parental controls can bypass the NAT acceleration as each packet needs to be inspected so it depends on your router and which features are enabled. Your router may be perfectly fine so long as you enable the NAT acceleration feature (also called CTF on some routers). Some more info here:

I figured there was a chance of it happening that they dont get actioned, but that it was still worth being in the queue before everyone else if it does for when things resume, and maybe if lucky getting a reduced price now and earlier contract start date hehe (probably not, but who knows). They might also just do the stuff in reduced frequency batches or such like.
Basically, dissapointing but not unexpected if the regrades do get stuck.

I might just have to wait and see if it works, I cannot see anything like that in the settings, I could install the 3rd party open source firmware once the line goes live, I have no issue buying another router, just knowing one that would allow for that.
But seems my firmware was last updated back in 2018 and there are a few updates.

Even with the latest firmware I cannot see anything like that, all I have a Enable NAT and that's it.

I would worry about that, most routers are based on open source components, and the Linux kernel etc, and these are patched frequently against security holes. No updates for 2 years could mean the product is abandoned by the vendor, and might no longer be secure.

HW acceleration Runner: Enabled - Flow Cache: Enabled
I have 200mbps / 20mbps from Virgin cable, and the AX has a very fast processor, my older AC, had similar feature.
But seems my firmware was last updated back in 2018 and there are a few updates.
I would worry about that, most routers are based on open source components, and the Linux kernel etc, and these are patched frequently against security holes. No updates for 2 years could mean the product is abandoned by the vendor, and might no longer be secure.
I was just saying I haven't updated since 2018, I had a few new firmware update listed, so I just updated to the last one.
Sorry I didn't explain it right
This was what was in the last 2 updates:
Firmware version: 1.0.8.199531
Release date: February 13, 2020
- Fixed a buffer overflow security vulnerability
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Firmware version: 1.0.8.198828
Release date: January 8, 2020
- Integrated WLAN driver v9.1.2.6 and FW v9.3.2.8
- Added support for the Marvell Armada 385 Rev. B0 CPU
- Resolved multiple security vulnerabilities
- General bug fixes
And that's it, I might go looking at a new router in case its not up to the job, I still have the Smart Hub 2 if the worst comes to the worst.
I was looking at setting up pfsense but never got around to actually doing it..

Purely out of interest and probably worth asking on this thread which off the shelf third party routers are capable of running 1Gbps.
I am the same as Paul its no problem purchasing a new router but its a minefield knowing which is right for the job.
I'm using an Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro and it's working like a champ.

This is an interesting question. I would look at Small Net Builder, as the owner does this sort of testing. Most recently some amazing testing on WiFi 6 (AX) throughput.
WAN to LAN throughput table:
https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/tools/charts/router/...
Not something many in the UK are going to hit for a few years, but a good topic! Maybe Thinkbroadband should re-start router testing for the UK models.

The security industry has been asking manufacturers of home products to automatically have "auto update"; as there have been some really malicious attacks against well known vulnerabilities. It is a shame the ISP provided hardware is so basic, as this stuff normally updates itself. Add-on products such as the BT WholeHome discs (the generic ones) also have automatic update for their firmware. This is getting an important topic, especially in the current craziness when getting a replacement router might take weeks.

If I were buying now I'd get the Mikrotik rb4011igs_rm. Ongoing firmware upgrades, a quad-core ARM, and a 10G ethernet port. It will eat 1G for lunch
Otherwise if you have any PC from the last 5 years (64-bit CPU) and fit it with two gigabit NICs and run pfSense, that will do the job nicely.

I can recommend using an HP 400 / 600 / 800 SFF PC (G1 onwards) - I use an HP 400 G2.5 SFF for my pfSense router - I think power consumption is around 14W for this model - I also have an HP 600 G2 SFF and that has power consumption about 12W due to its better Platinum rated PSU. The fans can be audible particularly if the machine is a few years old but they can easily be replaced for a few quid with Arctic or Noctua fans. You can't hear my 600 G2 since I replaced the cpu fan with a Noctua 80mm fan.

I did have it set to auto update, but for some reason it was un-ticked, might of been when I forgot the password and did a factory reset and must of forgot that setting.
Yeah, I had so many issues with the smart hub GUI Issues, hub becoming sluggish and the old reboot, sadly there is no place to report these issues to due to BT never pass the info on to the required team, that was why I got the Linksys one, was a [censored] to get setup right how I wanted it, but it was stable hardly did no reboots, and only changed the IP when BT changed it which was 5 months at one point.

I have an i3-4170 3.7GHz cpu and it goes up to about 4% cpu usage at 300Mbps so any of those cpus should be perfectly fine. Try and use Intel Gbit NICs if you can.

Just to echo this, this is about the best advice at the moment. The RB4011 is easily the best none rack router available and is very power efficient. Seriously overpowered for even 1Gbps connections, yet is comparatively not that expensive.
PfSense / OpnSense is a great option, but will cost you more long term due to more power usage - but if you have the spare machine handy then the cost difference would take many years to make up. Just get a good Intel NIC, anything that is I3/I5/I7 from Sandy Bridge (e.g. I3-2XXX) and above should be able to handle 1Gbps.
Both options do require you to know a bit about networking though, i.e. they aren't 'plug and play'.

Yeah, I have that too. The next message you'll get will be something about a specialist team working on it.
What I'm curous about: is it just an admin messup caused by lack of staff, and/or systems not ready for 1gb? Or perhaps the equipment in the streets isn't matching their databases, so it's not actually 1gb capable yet?

Well BT told me on the phone this morning its delayed due to nobody in wholesale office in India. Now why they cannot process it in a UK office I don't know.
Now this might be due to its the weekend or due to the issues that are happening at the moment.
I also see the following for my broadband package:
Your current BT Broadband:
Sorry, we cant show your details at the moment
Were working on fixing the issue, but in the meantime you can also find your account details on your latest bill.
Now that might be due to it being stuck in mid order.

Once we all get to IPv6, then we can ditch NAT, and route / firewall everything.
The bulk of the the CPU usage is caused by the PPP encapsulation of each packet; required for all shared networks (e.g. Openreach). Other networks that have only one ISP on the network don't use PPP (e.g. Virgin Media)

Not all internet providers support v6, and not all websites are available on v6. This one is, as is Google and Facebook for example. Until every website, and every internet provider supports IPv6, we cant stop using v4 without losing access to many websites.

So what is wrong with my Linksys router, it has at least a 1Gbit throughput between the WAN and Ethernet Ports?
Paul
Just because they are gigabit ports doesn't mean you can get line rate through them. It's not a switch there's some work to be done in between.
According to the Small Net Builder tests it doesn't come close regardless of PPP usage.

Another vote for PfSense, i can't see myself moving away from it. I run ntopng (network analysis), pfblockerng (network wide tracking/ad blocking) and OpenVPN.
At the time i wanted to move my CCTV NVR to a software based system (BlueIrirs) so i decided to build an ESXI server - so far it has been great.
I think i spent around £600 for the build, Ryzen 7 1700 (8 Core), 32GB DDR4 Ram, 2 ethernet cards and storage for the CCTV + "media"
If you're a tech nerd like me, go for pfsense!

LAN - WAN Throughput (Mbps) 940
I cannot see any that are higher.

WAN - LAN Throughput (Mbps) 940
LAN - WAN Throughput (Mbps) 940

You won't.
On a gigabit ethernet connection, with IPv4, PPPoE and 1500 byte ethernet frames, the TCP, IP and Ethernet headers will give a remaining usable throughput of about 940Mbps.
- Ethernet frame data portion: 1500 bytes
- Ethernet headers and preamble/trailer: 38
- Total frame size: 1538 (without dot1q VLAN tagging)
The frame contains
- PPPoE header: 8
- IP header: 20 (IPv4) or 40 (IPv6)
- TCP header: 20 (without timestamp option) or 28 (with timestamp option)
- Payload (MSS): 1500-8-20-20 = 1452 best case
Throughput: 1452/1538 * 1000000000 = 944Mbps without TCP timestamp option, or 1444/1538 => 939Mbps with timestamp option
With IPv6 and TCP timestamp option, drops further to 926Mbps.
Note: the fact that you can fill a gigabit with maximum-sized frames doesn't mean your router will be able to fill it with real traffic with a mix of packet sizes. Smaller packets mean more packets-per-second, which mean more routing/filtering/NAT work for the CPU to do.

Yeah that's what I thought, I already knew about all the packet -> frame / headers etc, just wanted to make sure.
Having that confirmed allows me to look into a smaller set of routers along with setting up one with PC parts from my last PC and 2 old Intel 1Gbit PCIe Lan cards, might even have a dual port Intel card.
One thing I haven't looked into yet is my SamKnows White box, that "might" have to be removed, unless it can be setup and not a through device and that of just a tester.

Curious to know what routers people may be planning to use with gigabit WAN connections?
Id like to get something capable and was planning on TPLink TL-R600VPN v4
But it says the NAT throughput is only 640Mbps. I assume if someone is uploading and downloading a lot its likely throughput wont manage to get above 300Mbps
NAT throughput is something I hadnt thought about much. Link speed and throughput are very different things.
So what third party router (dont need WiFi) should I use?
Ps the confusing thing is for somethings Ive read, ISP routers seem to out perform these business grade routers on speed. I dont get it.

I bought a Unifi Dream Machine Pro to eventually use with BT FTTP & City fibre, but I found it currently too limiting with routing, so bought a Draytek 3910 upto 8 WAN's, 2x10Gbe, 2x2.5Gbe & 4x1Gbe and 4x 1Gbe LAN (dedicated). >8Gbe NAT Throughput.
I should say the first 8 ports are selectable wan or lan, so I can feed my 10Gbe lan.

I am currently looking at these three, not too fussed if it has wireless or not due to I can just add wireless access points.
ASUS RT-AC86U Wi-Fi AC2900
MikroTik Tik RB4011iGS+RM ( still not sure this will handle the speed though)
NETGEAR Nighthawk X6S Smart Wifi Router (R8000P)
And also possibly setting one up from PC Hardware.
But I will probably use the Smarthub 2 while I look into them, don't want to rush into it.
I am liking the look of the MikroTik Tik RB4011iGS+RM though.

We wouldn't be passing 1Gbit (940Mbit) 24/7 so will probably be fine, at the moment us here all set our downloads to a max of 80Mb on our 300Mb connection and we are fine, just means we can turn that up a could of notches.

MikroTik Tik RB4011iGS+RM (still not sure this will handle the speed though)
Quad-core ARM 1.4GHz should have no problem. The manufacturer's throughput tests are here.
For comparison, I have the much less powerful Mikrotik hEX PoE, which has a single-core MIPS 800MHz.
In my testing, with fastpath enabled (IPv4) it routes 900M between two VLANs; with speedtest.net on 300M FTTP (including PPPoE and NAT) the CPU goes to about 33% utilisation. Without fastpath (which includes IPv6), it flatlines about 300Mbps at 100% CPU.
The measurements given by Mikrotik are ~75kpps for the hEX PoE and ~600kpps for the RB4011 (both for routing with 25 filter rules), so you can expect the RB4011 to be 8 times faster than what I see: this agrees with its four cores and roughly double clock speed.

Yeah I did read that some people using the merlin firmware, I normally stay away from WRT opensource firmware due to there have been issues in the past with licencing with driver resulting in people reverse engineering them which have been not as good.
Merlin uses the source from ASUS with the binary modules, so you don't get the feature set of DDWRT, or Advanced Tomato or similar, but you get the benefits of the closed source modules (e.g. working/good WiFi, and optimisations on PPP and NAT for high throughput!).
I would also be limiting as much as I can for the router to do freeing up every CPU cycle LOL
You actually want as much as possible offloaded from the SoC's CPU into dedicated hardware for highest throughput. Hence features such as CTF. It is when you use CPU based features that you lose the throughput (e.g. the QoS).

Thats why Im curious to know what routers are going to be supplied by the ISPs
Im not sure which way to go. The business grade TP-Link TL-R600VPN v4 will possibly do 680Mbps but its hard to find but reasonably priced.
The ubiquity edge router is around 700Mbps but afaik is a bit tricky to setup
Then you have the asus 68u and r7000 but with NAT more likely 400-500Mbps
So curious what the ISP will supply or what other options there are.
Definitely seems to be limited reasonably priced options afaik. Unless you stay below 500Mbps

Agreed, I did see some beasts of routers while looking, just didn't want to pay that much (and they were a lot) LUL
Plus we could just build a PC here and install pfSense on it.
At the end of the day its boils down to how much you want to pay for a router, plus getting the connection for the same price as before we can send a bit on the router.

What are those Kbit number referring to? also I can see that it hate small (i.e. 64byte) sizes.
But glad to see it should be ok because I liked the look of it and it looks wall mountable too.
I did also see that hEX PoE and the other ones that look like it but with different fronts and without the SFP Port (i.e. the Lite version) but I already assumed it wouldn't be fast enough.

I know BT are supplying their Smarthub 2, hope its better than their previous Smarthub due to that barely did 300Mb and over time become sluggish especially in the web GUI.

I have a UDM Pro but waiting for the software to catch up with the hardware.
Building better networks, not just faster ones.

Do BT still sell the 300Mbps tier?
I can see the 500Mbps tier at 49.99 is the same price as the 300 tier. Has the 300Mbps tier been adjusted yet?

I was assuming they was dropping the Ultrafast Fibre 250 package for the Full Fibre 500 one.

Right I am going to bite the bullet and buy one LOL, its not that much, I can also try it on my current connection and get it all setup ready for it to go live (assuming BT resolve their wholesale issue out), might also use my current Linksys as an access point due to the wi-fi was great on it.

kpps is thousands of packets per second. The amount of CPU work routing a packet is the same regardless of the size of the packet. Hence whether you're sending 1500-byte packets or 64-byte packets, you get roughly the same throughput in packets per second; but to get the throughput in megabits per second you have to multiply by the packet size (in bits).
75000pps x 1500bytes x 8 bits per byte = 900Mbps
This is best case, e.g. for large downloads and streaming over TCP. You'll get smaller sized packets from videoconferencing, interactive applications/games, DNS etc.
I definitely wouldn't recommend the hEX PoE for gigabit. 300M I'd say is the usable limit.
OMG, I just saw the CCR1016-12G (1U Rack) not a bad price either, but look at the test results OMG LOL
Yes they are awesome. A client has several CCR1036 (with 36 cores) in data centres; when forwarding 500Mbps and processing BGP updates the visible CPU load wanders between 0 and 2%.

If you are looking at the rackable ones the best to get is the CCR-1036-8G-2S
That can do 10G connections, but isn't cheap, but isn't much more than the 1016 for a lot more power. Although 10G is unlikely to appear any time soon in the UK.

OMG I should go to Specsavers LOL, I read kpps as kbps that's why I was confused, kpps makes sense.
Games using small packets would never need large bandwidth when playing, not needed to do any videoconferencing in a while, so we should be good.

Yeah, its a shame due to we don't need all the extra ethernet ports, but saying that, with the RB4011iGS+RM we might be able to remove one of our first LAN Switches due to there "might" be enough ports on this to connect all those cables, but I would need to check (but I might just leave it as 1 in and 1 out).

Even the CCR1036-8G-2S+ and the CCR1036-12G-4S (Cloud Core Router) has a nice affordable price on it, sure I have no need for the 4 SFP ports.
We use to have some rack stuff here several years back in the 100Mbit days, but wasn't a fan (pun intended) of all the (whooooo) fan noise from them, we were going to move it all to its own location, but never got around to it.
Might look into all this again at a later date now that they are a nice price.

Yeah I already looked at the CCR1036 series of Cloud Core Routers, they are at a price that I "could" pay if needed, but atm don't need, so they are now just on my wish list.
Well a dedicated 10Gb is already available via the BT's Business products, sadly that's well out of our price range, basically anything that says call for a price normally means get a chair due to the price is way too high LOL

My Fibre 900 (which was scheduled for today, March 30th) went live sometime after midnight, I noticed around 1am.
Both my Smart Hub 2 and Smart Hub had the 'capping upload speed at 50mbit-ish' issue. They were peaking around 70 for moments but still averaging ~50 during a run. A factory reset on both resolved things and got the 115mbit upload going. On the downstream side, I saw 840mbit avg in the early hours, and just now after I got done giving the routers a reset and comparison its a bit lower, varying 7XX. (Maybe not the best backhaul, the area was only able to get the 1000mbit offerings in the last few weeks)
For things on wifi, which alas most of my stuff needs to use, things have barely changed at all. I have one machine with a 4x4 AC external antenna and its speedtest averages are almost the same as before hand, some peaks exceeding the prior line rates but for the averages mostly youd never know the upload or download had changed. Wont be easy to wire these places, but I now have more compelling motivations to do so I guess hehe (or to look at 802.11AX for them at some point, say once 6GHz kit is more settled).

Has anyone else's gone live over the last couple of days?

Wifi is a tricky one to get right, at least it was for me.
The very best wifi kit you may just see 650-850Mbps W-LAN to LAN. Slightly less W-LAN to W-LAN (but across different AP's) - not sure why its slightly less as the switch is doing the work, but I guess it may be interference. And half it was clients on the same AP.
If you have a WAN connection (like you do) that can do 1Gbps, the only way I was able to get great speeds was to ensure I set all my AP's up correctly.
I have 1300Mbps AC points on 3 floors of my home, cabled back centrally. You need to set channel spacing and power levels very carefully.
Even with too much power, if one of the AP's interferes with another the speeds drop.
With clients distributed across all 3 points I was able to get up to 850Mbps over Wifi.
As soon as another client starts transmitting don't expect more than 350-450Mbps. And that is very meticulous setup and config.
A central wifi router trying to cover the whole house and you are likely to not get more than 150-200Mbps a few rooms away with other clients on the same AP.

Well I just called BT just for a quick update and to find out what the actual issue was and the guy at BT was confused why the order was stuck.
He said that it should of gone live within 24/48 hours from the date of ordering because its just a speed change and wouldn't require an engineer.
He did further checks and had to speak to Openreach and would phone me back.
Which he did saying there was an exception on our order and that it has now been sent to their offline team, and if I heard him right he said something about 24 to 48 hours to be resolved by and that I might get a phone call by / on the 2nd.
I had exception issues going from ADSL2+ to Infinity 4 to Ultra Fast 2 and then to Ultrafast Fibre 250, but I thought that they had fixed all those issues.
I was also told that the Wholesale staff based in India are now allowed to work from home, so possibly orders should start to go through now.

I spoke to the FTTP sales team and then the FTTP sales support 2nd line.
They can see I have spare ports on my ONT but cannot migrate me or set me up a new connection. They always want my phone number and apparently they will only do FTTP & phone line not just FTTP. To transition the phone line they need to instruct OR to do some work at the exchange and there are no visits.
She suggested I was a brown-field site and all orders for brown-field sites can't be processed.
Why can't I have just FTTP? FTTP with Cerberus, phone line with Zen, and quite happy to leave phone line alone.
I totally get OR's position, but the FTTP part can be done without any visit as I understand it.

BT don't sell broadband without phone.
That goes for ADSL, FTTC and FTTP.
They shouldn't need to do any work in your home or the exchange though.
I'd expect any voice service provided by BT on FTTP to be via their Digital Voice product (VOIP) unless already a customer with an active copper line.
FVA is gone.
I can't see why they can't just provide a new service with a new phone number on port 2 of the ONT.

FVA is gone.
Well it's not gone as such, just not selling it for new orders (i.e. moving people over to it), current customers will remain on it for a while yet so BT told me last night when I was asking about missing phone addons, but that was due to BT's site being broken (i.e. display issue).
But at some point I guess us people on FVA will be moved over later down the road.
I can't see why they can't just provide a new service with a new phone number on port 2 of the ONT.
This is true, would love to move over to BT's new voice service if it was ethernet based allowing us to still use our own router.

I haven’t had this confirmed, but Virgin media now use VoIP thorough the SuperHub for new installations of broadband & phone. The SuperHub apparently supports this in modem mode, which is all BT would need to do. (Add a modem mode to their Hub)

That's how my Virgin installation is done.
FTTP in a project Lightning area.
Hub in modem mode, with a landline phone connected to the hub.
BT used to sell FVA which provided Voice via the ONT, allowing any router to be used.
Their new Digital Voice (VOIP) only works via the telephone port on their Hub.
I can't see how they could add a modem mode to what is just a router. The ONT is basically the modem in an FTTP installation.
Adding "modem mode" to the BT Smart Hub would see an end user having an ONT, a BT Hub (in modem mode) then a 3rd party router.

A BT community manager posted this today on a thread on the BT forum.
Thanks for all the comments and welcome to the Community. I am very sorry to hear that you have not been unable to place an order for BT Full Fibre, and any confusion caused in terms of the availability of this new service at your address.
I have spoken with our Fibre team and they have confirmed that at this moment in time we are unable to offer the upgrade to all customers who have the availability at their address. The reason for this is that our Full Fibre plans may require a home visit from an engineer. Openreach have suspended the vast majority of these appointments in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
Engineers attending your home is only available in exceptional circumstances where vulnerable customers who have no service will be prioritised. This is why you may have seen the broadband checker give conflicting information recently.
We appreciate that existing BT Fibre 250 customers may not need a home visit from an engineer so BT is looking into a way in which we can offer an upgrade to our existing ‘Fibre to the Premises’ (FTTP) customers. However, this will take some time to investigate. Unfortunately, I am unable to offer a timescale as to when this will become available but as I get any new info I will post it here in Community.
I am very sorry as I am sure this will come as a disappointment and I will let you know more as soon as I can.

Yes, but the ONT doesn't terminate any connections, so its acting as a media converter. The router ("Hub") is doing the PPP session, and having to handle QoS between what is likely to be different PPP sessions, one for the voice service and one for the data.
I don't see the ONT doing this, as that would require Openreach to provide all CP's with remote configuration tools for the chosen service, instead of making it a transparent media converter.
What I find odd, is that BT Retail won't sell data without voice, obviously still something in their systems can't let go of copper wire.

I quickly contacted the VOIP supplier and BT to avert this disconnection. I would be interested in information from anybody who has has managed to port their BT landline number to a VOIP supplier.

What issue did you have, when you say disconnection was you just referring to loosing the phone service or both broadband and phone services.
My brother did it a while back when he moved out, he took his BT number with him and then ported it over to the VoIP service he wanted to use, I think he "might" still have a landline there but not sure, he never said he had any issues.
I was more thinking on the lines of when that time comes (hopefully a few years down the line yet, pardon the pun LOL) in taking the current phone number to be ported over to VoIP, but not ceasing the land line, so we will still be paying for the Line rental, its up to BT if they allocate us a new number for the landline, but there will not be any phone connected to it, so no need of any phone addons either.
But I think, well hope, that by then there will be other ways to have a BT landline using VoIP that also allows to use our own router.

What you desire will only happen if BT release the SIP details for the service to individuals
So just trying to piece this together in my peanut sized brain.
- BT only provide FTTP with a phone line.
- It is likely that once they know about my existing phone line they want to transfer it for me and ditch my copper line. Which may need exchange work to kill it, thus allowing them toan take the number to FTTP. Thus stopping the order from going ahead.
- It is possible they could give me a whole new VOIP number/line if I lie and say I don't have a phone. Thus I have FTTP and phone.
- If I ever want to use the new phone line I have to use their router as the phone only plugs into their router.
- If I then want to use my router I would have to be double NAT'd which would be an issue for VPN, which may be workable round, and I can't use the VOIP functionality on my router as they won't release the SIP details.
So basically next step is ask for an FTTP service, it they ask if I have a phone number the answer is no. See if they can send me live via that route. So just have to get past FTTP sales, through to FTTP sales support, who then had to speak to their support, the Ninja's Ninja as it were.
If I get a response will feed back.
Thanks for the pointers.

Basically yes.
You want an FTTP service without voice.
Just order a new service and don't use the VOIP number they provide.
No need to ever use the BT Hub if you don't intend on using their VOIP.

Good luck!
I've decided to go ahead with my cerberus line cease and will be signing up to a new line with BT as soon as that goes ahead.
Spoke with BT earlier and their sales support team could see that the cease was happening and that there would be no issues for me to sign up.
To cover myself in case of an extended downtime (any downtime actually), i've ordered a NETGEAR 4G LTE Broadband Modem that'll hook straight into my network via PfSense.
That wont be much fun, i get low 4G signal (30 - 50Mbit down / 2 - 5 Mbit up), but better than nothing!

Therefore a 4-port ONT is pointless.

Yeah mine is still stuck as an open order and BT's offline team are dealing with it, well I was told they are, I am due a phone call from them at the latest tomorrow.
I think its just a matter of waiting.
Oh and on top of that half of BT's site is broken for us, shows we can manage our broadband but no manage for our landline so it looks like its saying we have no phone line.
So I will have to let them know that when they phone.

Not entirely: you could get a service from Zen or Aquiss on port 2.
Similarly, OpenReach now offer SOGEA widely - but BT Retail still won't sell you a data service without voice.

So todays story is that BT will not enable a service on any port but Port-1!
Therefore a 4-port ONT is pointless.
Not entirely: you could get a service from Zen or Aquiss on port 2.
Similarly, OpenReach now offer SOGEA widely - but BT Retail still won't sell you a data service without voice.
Yes I suppose, good point. Just not at BTs price.
But is this actually a thing for BT, or is this just someone else's excuse for today. The person I spoke to yesterday didn't seem to have this issue, they could see I had another port available and the only issue was exchange visit required to port my number.
(although Zen's excuse is it is registered as single port ONT and they told me to get existing provider to sort. Cerberus say second provider should raise a bridge case with OR to add new service).

Sounds like an Openreach database error, ie Openreach have incorrectly recorded you have a single port ONT instead of a 4 port one. If none of the CPs are willing to get this fixed then probably worth sending MrSaffron an email who may be able to prod Openreach to fix this.
I took out a second FTTP line with BT Business last year on my 4 port ONT and this went live on port 3. BT Biz last week told me they will definitely be selling the new higher tiers on FTTP very soon. However, their top 1 Gig FTTP tier will be 1000/220 instead of 1000/115 and provided the costs aren't eye watering (>£150/m), i will definitely be upgrading to 1000/220 on BT Biz.
Wrt Voice, I have Digital Voice (voip) from BT Biz. They have given me a cordless VOIP handset and unlike BT Residential, this can be be plugged into any router. The handset is locked to BT and you can't see the SIP login details in case you want to use your own SIP handset. However not a biggie, as I'm not using BT's voice service.

It is the inconsistency that is hard. Yesterday's call taker at BT said it was registered as single port ONT but they could see I have spare ports that can be used. Today they say that is impossible as I have only a single port ONT and then put me through to connections who said they will never use anything other than Port 1. Although the chap in connections was willing to admit there is a migration option for FTTP, it is just they don't use it, so has to be cease and restart with three day gap.
Cheers
Dave

I'll keep you all updated, it sounds like new connections are prioritised over regrades. Assuming it's down to getting more money coming in!
I don't actually mind that - us regraders have a connection already, doesn't really matter if it's a bit faster. People stuck at home without any internet though .....

Understood, but at the end of the day BT (or any other CP for that matter) might not be able to override their ordering systems. Until Openreach fix the potential database error, then you're likely to experience the same ordering issue with nearly every CP. Pinging Mr S is probably your best bet

Hi Paul. I submitted the forms to my VOIP provider and they then made the request for porting. The message from BT was for termination of service, landline and broadband. I have spoken to many departments there, but they can see no way of doing this other than ask for a renumber on my existing landline and then porting. Problem I see with that is that one the renumber has taken place, I wouldn’t have my original number to port.

I'm with Zen on FTTP 300/50. I have an OR ONT....
Spoke to BT Sales this morning and they told me I can't order anything as a result of lack of OR engineers.
I tried the line "the ONT is already there, just need to switch to BT and regrade", but no dice. I have to wait until "all this virus thing is over"....
I admit there are more urgent things than me getting a faster line, but you guys seems to be making progress?

Not that I know anything, but if you phone again you will get a different answer.
I am not certain but it seems if you are porting a number across then it will need an engineer visit to the exchange to terminate the copper line. In which case yes under current conditions it won't happen.
If you aren't porting a number across then you are in with a shout. But then you have to terminate the Zen FTTP connection, then call BT to arrange, and you should be running three days later. (this isn't to do with Covid-19 but is their normal method).

One bit of advise...
Given we are all pretty much stuck indoors, do you want to do anything that risks no Internet at home.

Makes sense.
But our holiday cottages are currently shut. We could survive with our wifi dongle if we had to (or tethered laptop/phone), that wouldn't be an option when trading. So if I have to have a 3-day blank it may be the best time. Although there is a risk that it doesn't come live after 3 days.
But that is why I wanted to stick BT onto Port-2. If I can't do that then stick another service onto Port-2, then cancel Port-1 Service with Cerberus, and liven up BT on Port-1. So I would always have a working service.
At the minute:
Cerberus £100pm for 300/30
Total £1200pa
OR
FTTP Pro
Cerberus £71.50pm for 300/50
Total £858pa
Possibly:
Acquiss £5pm for 4-months + £30pm for 8-months = £260 for 12-months
BT- £50pm for 900/110 = £600 for 12 months
£860pa
So I can have a live service before moving to next stage, I can move from 300/30 to 900/110, and spend less over the next 12-months than I do now.
The BT prices are that good that it makes sense.

That's how I understood it works: if you port your number it *automatically* ceases the landline it is attached to, which in turn automatically ceases the broadband on that line. But I haven't been through this process myself.
I am not aware that there's any possibility to port the number while keeping the service (e.g. by them allocating a new number at the time the port takes place).
I do have landline (copper) with FTTC, and also FTTP. When I'm ready to lose the FTTC I'll port the landline number.

AAISP talk about a “renumber and export”, but might be only available on their lines.

I ported my landline number from Plusnet FTTC to Sipgate VOIP when I had Cerberus FTTP installed - the port terminates the landline and attached broadband so moving from FTTC to FTTP is the perfect time to do the porting.

I use them for VoIP when I moved from Plusnet FTTC to Virgin Media broadband, but I ported my old landline number and ceased the openreach service. I get very few calls, so just wanted to keep number alive.

BT used to sell FVA which provided Voice via the ONT, allowing any router to be used.
Their new Digital Voice (VOIP) only works via the telephone port on their Hub.
This is not true, I'm with BT and had an FTTP install done in early Feb '20 and the phone line is provided via the ONT not the Superhub.

I read a few pages back that BT don't sell FTTP with a traditional copper phone line
If that's the case, that price for BT's FTTP, do I have to pay for line rental on top of that which is about £21 p/m - or does that FTTP price include line rental? (Which is a bit odd as FTTP is nothing to do with copper).

It is true.
OpenReach stopped selling FVA (VOIP via the ONT) in March 2020.
It can no longer be ordered but will continue to work for those who ordered before it was stopped.

I strongly suspect that the cease of a copper line will not require any physical work to be done.
There are exchange staff working at present anyway, it is just physical access into customer properties which is currently halted.

Mine just went live this morning, it's a new service not a regrade, any further info on this 50mbps profile bug?
I had the Smart Hub 2 plugged in initially and no matter how many times I reset it, it's still stuck at 50mbps upload, the downstream is good though.
Weird thing is that even if I plug in my computer directly to the modem and initiate PPPoE myself, it's still capped at 50mbps up.
|
|

Anyone wanting multiple services including 1G on the 4-port ONT: sure that ONT supports > 1Gb/s connection between PON and the ports?
Might only be an internal 1 Gb connection. I know later Huawei models have a full 2.5 Gb/s backplane but I am not 100% sure on this one.

Would that not imply that the issue is the other end of things ?
|
|
|
|
That's exactly what it would imply but it also seems like a strange coincidence to have an identical issue but with perhaps a different cause, stemming from the same upgrade/new line or whatever.
|
|
|
|
One suggestion made earlier was to power-cycle the ONT, have you tried that?
It's possible that forcing the ONT and OLT to reassociate will apply the OLT profile correctly. Even if it doesn't work, it's still useful to know whether it makes a difference or not.
|
|
|
|
I did try power cycling the ONT already yes, but I will try leaving it off for a few minutes rather than 30 seconds or so.
|
|
|
|
Same deal unfortunately, still stuck at 50 up even with the ONT off for 5 mins.
|
|
|
|
Good, then it sounds like either the OLT profile or (less likely) BRAS profile is wrong for your service. You'll need to contact support.
|
|
|
|
Cheers, I figured as much that I'd end up needing to contact support. I'll give it at least 24 hours though and see if it perhaps corrects itself. It was supposed to be activated yesterday but wasn't, called up and they told me the order had got stuck and made a new one for activation today, it was then activated about 20 mins after the phone call. So maybe something will happen when it ticks over into tomorrow? Who knows.
|
|
|
Yep, a suggestion made by me ....
Carl thought it was not worth bothering with ... and that’s twice he’s been proved right now.

This is a reported issue with the Smart Hub 2 apparently. I read about it recently on BT's own forum. I don't have the precise link at the moment though, but when someone tried a direct connection to the modem from their PC (via PPPoE) it gave the expected speed test result when a speed test was done. Same thing when they used an alternative router. Not sure if yours is the same issue or not, but thought I'd mention it. Still waiting for the regrade to be processed here (since 24th of last month).

Yeah not the same thing, if I plug in my laptop directly to the ONT and negotiate PPPoE myself, I am still hitting a hard cap at 50mbps up.
|
|
|
|
I see, then yes in that case that's not the same issue unfortunately.
|
|
|
Ok, well order still stuck, BT never phoned me within the 24 - 48 hours which I was told where they was to let me know if there was any issues or that it was all done.
So I phoned BT for an update (10 min in queue so not too bad) she checked with Openreach and phoned me back about 10 mins later.
She said that Openreach told her that there are no issues on our order and that its stuck at wholesale, I was also told Openreach tried several times to contact wholesale but lines were either dead or not being answered, so there might be line issue.
I was promised that they WILL phone me early tomorrow morning with good news.
Now maybe BT's Offline Team resolved the Exception on the order and that its just now waiting to be processed by wholesale, well one can only help.

Still stuck here after 10 days, so wouldn't hold your breath
Does yours have this under order summary btw?
"We've got a specialist team working on it and we'll let you know as soon as we have more news. Thanks for your patience."
|
|

Yeah, we have had that in the past and that issue got resolved, just a matter of keeping on at them till it gets resolved.
I am just putting the issues and delays down to all the issues that is happening at the moment and lack of staff.
Plus BT's system is broken at the moment due to it says I don't even have a phone line under the Your Products section, even the Wholesale DSL Checker doesn't work with addresses and just returns the following:
We are sorry but the checker is unavailable at the moment. Please try again later.
Where as checks via a NAD Key and District ID works fine.
But will hopefully be resolved over time.

In my view the engineers are at far higher risk of infection at the exchange. Higher footfall and much less, if any, cleaning done than customer premises.

Not sure if this is the issue, but someone else was told .....

A hardware upgrade would maybe fit with the "specialist team" stuff in my account.
