This seems to be the recent trend with Hey! Botched installs taking days to get running, and I'm also hearing a lot about regular connection dropouts from facebook. The more recent Trustpilot reviews aren't looking good either.

I'm in High Wycombe and half my street has it available. They've been working on my half recently, so I'm expecting it to be available shortly.

I would be interested to see what the stability is like for you over the coming weeks.

Hi Andy

Nice to meet you..!
Fiber was installed (street), in December. Had a Email Hey!Broadband was ready in Jan. I got NO problem with Virgin, but we was not using TV and Phone.

Having a chat with Support at HB, My modem STILL needs Firmware update (4 versions behind). The modem has 2 sides.. Support / User. At the mo.. the tech have to go to home and Flash the modem. I tried and asked if I could do it (being IT savvy) but no answer, saying it still has to be PROVISIONED.

Unlike VM where they take the MAC address.

Anyways.. doing daily speedtests to see how it goes. ANY problems I will be on the phone.
But as a new supplier to the area, I'll give them a chance.

I'm also doing tests on Ookie - So.. should I be doing a Multi or Single thread test..? On multi I'm getting 300mbps, on single I'm up at 900mbps

Might even make a "Hey!Broadband - Hemel Hempstead" FB page.. (only to see the complaints)

Regards

H Mikee,

I've currently got VDSL with Zen and get 80/20, but the random re-syncs bug me, so I'm hoping full fibre will be more reliable!

I've heard that some people have convinced "support" to unlock the router for them, but a larger proportion seem to be having to get them to put the Hey! router into bridge mode, and are using their own modems.

Out of interest, what can you actually do on the "user" side? Change admin password, change WiFi SSID, change DHCP scope etc?

Those speed tests sound a bit weird. You'd expect multi-thread to be faster than single-thread, unless there's some upstream limitation with Ookla.

I'm going to order Hey! when it's available, but keep my VDSL line, and if it isn't stable within the 14 day cool off period I'll just cancel it.

How did you manage to get it for £25 a month? Is it cheaper because you took a 24 month contract?

Cheers,
Andy

Mmmm - Not had much luck on that side yet.. But will keep bugging

Yeah..! Very easy to access the USER side of the modem for the above.

As I already pre-ordered I don't think I can be referred, but we can always try!

What does the Thinkbroadband speed test look like for your connection?

Spin up a BQM and you should have a good basis for monitoring the stability of the new connection.

Interesting to see how varied the results are, which is a bit bizarre!

Still a lot faster than FTTC though.

Welcome to the world of gigabit internet connections….where all the little wrinkles in connectivity are laid bare and no two speed tests will ever necessarily ‘agree’.

That’s just the way it is, there are quite a few dynamic variables in play (mostly out of ones control)…

- PON / SVLAN capacity and contention
- ISP backhaul capacity and contention
- Routing arrangements within ISP network
- Peering arrangement and interconnect capacity
- Speed test server connectivity, capacity and all of the above.

That is why the large ISPs will generally guarantee no more than 50% of headline speeds.

If in the main the various speed test results are broadly in the same range/ ballpark and you are somewhere around 80 to 90% of your headline speed at various times of day, then you are in rude health.

Hi All

A quick update:

DL 950
UL 880

Doing speed tests every day on www.speedtests.net Ookie and things look quite stable. still heard no info on router update so will chase to see if I can get to the "Tech" side of the modem.

over all.. sites load very quick and I'm quite happy (ATM)
ANY reduction in anything.. will be straight on the phone..

the staff at H!B have been very helpful - just need more staff for "support" they all use VOIP anyway.

Hey Mikee,, how is your connection holding up?

F&W were "working" on my pole this morning. They literally did nothing! If you have nothing to do for 13 minutes, you can watch them here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BGI0OLR1-U

Beyond bizarre!

YES.. still hi numbers. if you know the Ski Centre, zoom in on the map and look at the numbers. but over all 900+ both ways. The Softwarez are downloading OK.

Regarding the Pole.. an old 30's duo come to mind...

Are there any updates to HeyBroadband reviews. The last ones seem to be a year ago, I’m just about to be connected this week in HP2 4. on 400Mbps. The survey was incorrect and they had to abort until this week.

Been with them since March 2021. Other than 1 issue due to their upstream peer, its been solid. They are definitely a more mature organisation than when I joined. I use my own kit with them as what they supplied at the time is basic AF.

One observation is when I joined I got the theoretical maximum of 930Mb/sec for up and down. Now it peeks at 850Mb/s and I can't get above that when testing with iperf3 (you can't trust Speedtest sites due to contention).

I feel like I've been throttled back a bit...or perhaps they've just added a ton more customers. Who knows. That said, very few places will serve you at >500Mb/s anyway.

I pay £29/month for their 900Mb service which is an absolute bargain compared to the competition.

Not sure if you're monitoring with a BQM, but have you noticed packet loss recently after the hours of 7~8PM?

5 different graphs i'm monitoring at the moment all show the same.

https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/...

1 as an example, however I can provide more if needed.

Been happening the last week or so. (ish) always the same time on each graph.

Yep!
Less than idea voice calls / horrible gaming.

On multiple "Hey!Broadband" graphs. after 7/8PM.

Their support is a bit lacking.

This is in regards to me complaining about their single peer/odd ping variations,
this is after I mention the nightly packet loss on multiple graphs:

https://imgur.com/rbADDTq

It has taken over 3 months (Nearly 4?) to get to this point from my original query.

No, I don't have those issues. Whilst I don't use BQM, I do use my own self-hosted monitoring that provides the same functionality (uptime-kuma). I just checked that and can see no issues other than the occasional spike.

Here's the last 24hrs:

I'd be happy to point it at your public IP if you'd like a second opinion for a short period of time.
