Welcome to the world of gigabit internet connections….where all the little wrinkles in connectivity are laid bare and no two speed tests will ever necessarily ‘agree’.
That’s just the way it is, there are quite a few dynamic variables in play (mostly out of ones control)…
- PON / SVLAN capacity and contention
- ISP backhaul capacity and contention
- Routing arrangements within ISP network
- Peering arrangement and interconnect capacity
- Speed test server connectivity, capacity and all of the above.
That is why the large ISPs will generally guarantee no more than 50% of headline speeds.
If in the main the various speed test results are broadly in the same range/ ballpark and you are somewhere around 80 to 90% of your headline speed at various times of day, then you are in rude health.
