Re: Cabinet Upgrade

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

I should say for clarity that I've contacted superfastsouthyorkshire three times.

1st - I asked them if my postcode was included in their plans. They said no.

2nd - I asked them if Cabinet 24 Penistone is included to which they said yes (I asked this because the properties across the road with a different postcode are included in the plans, and I know I'm connected to the same cabinet as they are after checking the BT ADSL tool).

3rd - I asked them as I'm connected to Cabinet 24 then would I be able to get FTTC services. At that point they were none committal and just said that my postcode couldn't be included due to funding restrictions.

Separately I'd sent an email to Openreach and they said Cabinet 24 had no plans.

I'm moving to a new build in October when it's finished and the new postcode has just appeared on the BT checker along with the cabinet my house will be connected to.

It currently says there is no FTTC because the line hasn't been installed yet but the houses that are in phase 1 of the development are connected to the same cabinet and have FTTC available so there's no reason why I won't get FTTC.

In scope means very little beyond they know about the area and it might be covered. Until the actual planning for deployment and quotes for things like power are received there is always the risk of things not happening.

In short 'in scope' is a long way from a promise of live by the date mentioned.

Sorry to bump this thread. However I could do with some further help.

The BT checker for most of the properties connected to Penistone Cabinet 24 are now showing as FTTP planned in the middle of next year. However my property and 12 others on a partially completed new estate are not showing this and just say no plans. If this cabinet is upgraded to FTTP does that mean that all properties connected to it would be able to order the FTTP product?

Hopefully this is just an error on their checker as the estate is new, but given their checker can find my property I'm unsure whether it is correct or not. The cabinet is very close to my house so technically I would have thought it would be easy to connect me, especially as all the ducts to the house are less than a year old.

FTTP doesn't require the cabinet to be upgraded. The maps doesn't guarantee availability at premises level. Some properties may well not be covered.

As your estate is still being built I would contact the property developers to see if they have contacted Openreach to see if they can get FTTP to the estate.

I've now conclusively got to the answer as to whether or not my property will be upgraded when the BDUK upgrade to FTTP happens in the street. Unfortunately the answer is no because superfastsouthyorkshire will not entertain any extensions to the plans they have in place. That will leave me and 12 other properties on my new build estate on 3Mb and properties adjacent with 300Mb available to them frown

Anyway, the rest of the estate are willing to fund a community broadband scheme subject to costs and the developer is willing to look at helping as well. Does anyone have an idea of the following.

1. Given the FTTP infrastructure will be in the street with properties within 20m connected via the BDUK scheme, what would the likely cost be to extend the FTTP to our properties.
2. Will the fibre be able to be run through the existing ducting that carries our copper lines into the houses.

I know exact answer are not likely, but if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.
