Sorry I meant the routing both FTTP lines take from the same head end exchange (NSIMD) to the ISPs data
centres/servers south of the border. I suspect the BT one goes from NSIMD >> Glasgow >> Manchester and the Giganet one goes from NSIMD >> Edinburgh >> London, hence why the BT line still works & has a lower latency than the Giganet one (Manchester v London).

That only works when there are alternatives. The closer you get to the end users the less likely it is that there will be an alternative.

The BT circuit will have been built with resilience in the Core, so Inverness Or Aberdeen will be connected (diversely) to both Edinburgh and Glasgow. Thus with Edinburgh out it will route via Glasgow and onward. The Giganet circuit looks like it only routes one way so is now down.

( I helped design the original Core -Metro nodes and the resilience about 10 years ago).

All Metro sites were dual parented and Cores at least triple, as long as your first Metro/core is not affected BT circuits should be resilient to losing a node. .
