Finally progress...

[link to this post]

After over 2 years of staring at fibre coiled up at the top of BT poles after the failed BDUK build we are finally seeing progress.

Every pole in the village now has CBT's on them. Today I noticed a random bod in dirty high vis overalls climb into our back garden (current cables run over our garden pole to pole) pull a cable in over the caravan before clambering out again (bloody good job the dogs weren't loose in the garden).

Anyway cable was strung to the next pole & cabled up to the CBT on there & now they've worked their way back out to the road. So hopefully the fibre feed should be done too. Bits of blue rope have been appearing all over too which is good news too.

So hopefully should be tested & commissioned soon, so fed up with flaky 4g & not paying £30 a month for under 8Mbps fttc.

The contractors installing suggested it should be ready to order for entire village by the end of this month. Can't wait it will literally change my life.

Can but hope! Always exciting when you see progress smile

I have been following our village build since the surveys back in September 20. I had my CBT installed in January but we were right at the beginning of the rollout so still waiting for go live as of today.

Most recently we also had all the ducts locally blue roped up to the houses, and someone from OR has confirmed we are in the final stages and they are hoping to commission soon so fingers crossed.

I guess my point is sometimes it happens quickly, some times it doesn't.

But at least its coming!!!

Yeah after the BDUK failed due to blocked ducts going out of scope we had to wait & go for a community fibre partnership, that hit 100% in Nov after about 3 months I think.

Anyway just been out & scoped out the work they've done today. I can see what look like splice points in 2 locations 3 circles essentially on the pole with fibres coming off & dangling fibres due to connect the remaining CBT's up. The outgoing fibre runs pole to pole until it gets back to the main road where there are several cables dangling off the pole right next to a big BT manhole cover, soooooo I'm guessing kit goes in there to link up to the outside world.

Happy days, seeing progress at last.

Fingers crossed yours progresses now too

Out of curosity, was it a large cost for the CFP? if BDUK had already forked out cash for some of the infastructure

They'd only hot as far as putting CBT's up on our road the BDUK aspect was just to cover our end if the village in particular our road of 18 houses.

The CFP covers the entire village. I think we had to hit about £100k in vouchers in total. We had about 6 businesses the rest residential & we got there in 3 months.

I don't know if there was any cost reduction due to the failed BDUK aspect but I doubt a survey & the cost of 4 CBT's comes to much lol.

Theyve been busy today, dug up a chunk of the village green, put ducts in it then immediately pushed fibre thru it & filled back in all done in one work day. They've now pulled fibre all the way up the street to feed all the CBT's they've installed. I saw them out fusion splicing this afternoon. So looking like it may well be by the end of the month as predicted by OR bod.

No rain today ive got to pop out in a bit ill see if they're here again. OR contractor was here saturday theyve put up several joint boxes on poles.

I've tried to make a plan of their progress and i've got the fibre coming underground to a point then on poles then back underground to the village green. They've just redone the resally old chamber covers with the standard BT concrete ones (3 wide) and they've just dug up a chunk of the village green and installed ducts and ropes to some of the homes down there.

Fibre coming to us goes underground up to a pole then pole to pole to the top of the village before one bundle of fibres continuing up to the farm and the other following poles to our road of 18 or so houses.

Looks like it's all fully connected now whether it's lit is another matter, we have two CBTs that still have fibre looped at the top of the pole but the rest is all connected up.

I'll get photos today.
