Hi Tim,
The speed and service they provide I can not fault, except for an IP address not being UK based with Netflix and Amazon saying I was using a VPN, but after a reboot of the router I was "UK" based again.
After complaining about this not long after taking their service, I was given a " Support" login for the router on top of the "admin" log in the user gets. I've looked about in there using the support login and there is alot you don't see with the "admin" login, and I get why they don't give you that in case you change something and you lose service, but I'm a big boy of 48 years old and don't turn things on or off, unless I know what it does.
I was hoping for VLAN ability but as the connection is SFP connection , you can't use VLAN ??????
No parental controls except for timing of allowed devices ie off between set times, no ability to stop porn or age related stuff, the Xbox One has this for games so presumably would work for sites as well.
My old plusnet hub one had logs you could view for errors, I had an issue with a ring doorbell losing connection regularly every day at the same time, simple search in logs showed this, but the Adtran shows 24hours of logs, but with the "admin" login you have to scroll through minute by minute, and if you miss press or scroll at the wrong point of the screen it goes straight back to the begining.
Simple things like time, no ability to change the time, fingers crossed the router will know to +/- hour when needed, unlike the tenda mesh we used to have, stuck on GMT all the time, not helpful.
I did do some research before commiting, other ISP's had different routers but the Adtran sounded ok on paper, but then they add their own firmware, and so will the others.
Do i regret the decision? Yes and No lol
Yes, Prefer more speed available for all the devices, bonus of no landline for spam calls, for less than phone and broadband cost.
No, as the router is the most arkward shape, stands upright and makes noises like an old hard drive, quite irritating and disturbing late at night. Not wall mountable unless you buy the Adtran wall mount that is not available any where, search the net for product ID, you see a picture and thats about it. These routers are supplied to ISP's and not sold anywhere, except ebay if you're lucky (USA only), so you can't make any use of any mesh technology either.
It really does make the plusnet hub one look state of the art.
