I'd forgotten about the O2 link. Wasn't aware that Sky had taken them over - must have been after I moved away (as they said they were closing) as I'd never have wanted anything to do with Sky!

Hi Tim,
The speed and service they provide I can not fault, except for an IP address not being UK based with Netflix and Amazon saying I was using a VPN, but after a reboot of the router I was "UK" based again.

After complaining about this not long after taking their service, I was given a " Support" login for the router on top of the "admin" log in the user gets. I've looked about in there using the support login and there is alot you don't see with the "admin" login, and I get why they don't give you that in case you change something and you lose service, but I'm a big boy of 48 years old and don't turn things on or off, unless I know what it does.

I was hoping for VLAN ability but as the connection is SFP connection , you can't use VLAN ??????
No parental controls except for timing of allowed devices ie off between set times, no ability to stop porn or age related stuff, the Xbox One has this for games so presumably would work for sites as well.
My old plusnet hub one had logs you could view for errors, I had an issue with a ring doorbell losing connection regularly every day at the same time, simple search in logs showed this, but the Adtran shows 24hours of logs, but with the "admin" login you have to scroll through minute by minute, and if you miss press or scroll at the wrong point of the screen it goes straight back to the begining.
Simple things like time, no ability to change the time, fingers crossed the router will know to +/- hour when needed, unlike the tenda mesh we used to have, stuck on GMT all the time, not helpful.

I did do some research before commiting, other ISP's had different routers but the Adtran sounded ok on paper, but then they add their own firmware, and so will the others.

Do i regret the decision? Yes and No lol
Yes, Prefer more speed available for all the devices, bonus of no landline for spam calls, for less than phone and broadband cost.
No, as the router is the most arkward shape, stands upright and makes noises like an old hard drive, quite irritating and disturbing late at night. Not wall mountable unless you buy the Adtran wall mount that is not available any where, search the net for product ID, you see a picture and thats about it. These routers are supplied to ISP's and not sold anywhere, except ebay if you're lucky (USA only), so you can't make any use of any mesh technology either.
It really does make the plusnet hub one look state of the art.

Did they not give the option to set the Adtran up in bridge / pass through mode or swap it for a plain and simple ONT so you could attach your own box?

Nope last email said others had similar issues and they may think about it in the future.
I was just going to buy a mesh system and use that, was using a tenda mw3 on plusnet, even that looks good against the adtran, could still use it but its only 100Mbps ethernet so less than 10% of total speed I pay for.

Maybe when enough people moan about it to them they may change their minds but as it is, it works but seems a big step backwards for residential use.

Hey ho only 20 months to go lol

Oooof.
That router looks like it is used in a number of countries and appears to be rubbish in all of them.

They would be a hard pass from me as I've been using my own router since the first DSL install e.g. pre-wifi days Speedtouch ST510 (it took a a campaign to get DSL in our area).

In reply to a post by candlerb:
In the latter case, I'd say your options are extremely limited. Most routers which have an SFP+ port won't take a PON module.

But quite a few do, and it largely depends on the PON module. The more recent PON modules tend to do all the hard lifting and just present as an ethernet module to whatever they are plugged into. The main issue is is modules that need better than a 1Gbps interface in the device they are plugged into as technically a GPON can do 2.5Gbps download and 1.25Gbps upload. Though if it is genuinely an SFP+ that's not an issue, but most are really SFP instead.

Just had Be Fibre installed (Worcestershire).

Speeds are great but I too was given the Adtran 854-v6-9240. It's not a terrible piece of consumer hardware, but you are correct, you cannot put it into bridge mode so no using your own router and any connected mesh would need to be in AP mode.

It actually has NetData OSS built into the routers OS if you want an infinitely more detailed view of the system than what is available on the routers default web UI.

The biggest issue for me so far is some pages failing to load/slow and my public IP looking like it is US based. I am assuming that these are CGNAT issues and am waiting for their support to sort it.

Hi
Best bet is to make a note of the offending ip address, reboot router, and then report to support who can make the required changes to the address, I've had 3 so far lol
It looks like BF are going to be providing the Linksys single mesh unit soon, but this has to be connected to the Adtran router and not a replacement for the Adtran, although maybe this paves the way to have the Adtran into bridge mode and allow users to buy and use their own equipent????
