Thanks for your reply. What I am wondering is what speed does the 3300 kps relate to? Am I getting over 2mb, 4mb or 6mb?
I've just checked my speed on my Orange account and, although they told me I could get up to 6mb, and a BT test shows that I can receive 6mb, my account shows I'm on 4mb. Am I being duped as I signed up to the 8mb unlimited package. Now I'm confused.
As far as my son's pc is concerned, I actually realised the day after posting this that we'd recently had sky+ fitted and our original sky box was put in his room. I checked his connection and realised that there was no filter. Having just had the Livebox delivered that day, I used one of the filters from that. All the other phone lines had filters (provided by Freeserve when I took up broadband).
At first his connection held very well, but soon started to drop again, sometimes several times in an hour, sometimes after a few hours.
I'm debating on fitting the Livebox, but being no technician am worried about messing something up. 16 year olds don't have any patience whatsoever.
As for the statistics, all I have found is the following:
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 1979 2068 0 195 516 00:39:22
LAN 100M/Full 9342 3605 0 662 162 01:13:47
WLAN 11M/54M 3900 0 0 75 0 01:13:39
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4896 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 40 db 21.5 db
Noise Margin 3 db 23 db
Is this what you mentioned? Obviously this is showing greater connection speeds than I posted earlier.
Sorry to sound so dumb, but I have to be honest and say that, yes, I am when it comes to the technical side of computers.
Oh help! Just got disconnected again, it's only for a few seconds then comes back again. Any ideas why?
Thanks for any help
