The disc is working at the mo but I think it's on it's way out. [censored] rubbish
I'm not buying another ps4 I'll wait for the new one if I'm going to replace it

The disk or the actual disk drive ?

The disk drive
It spat the disc out then just makes a noise like it's looking for a disc but it won't let you put one in. It was ok after I did the Database Rebuild but it's not the first time it's [censored] about like this.

Just been looking at some YouTube videos about this and you can buy the parts of eBay but it looks a little complicated to me even though there are install instructions, you also have to be careful when buying the correct part for the Playstation in question as there are various numbers.
video
Looks way over my head ?

Sounds stupid, but have you tried cleaning the touch sensitive buttons on the front of your console? I read somewhere once that somebody was having a similar problem and it was making the sort of noise it makes if you press the off button in the middle of playback.
Longshot, but worth ruling out mate...
I'll give it ago and have words with my cleaner
Thanks I don't think I can be arsed with that. If it won't work I'll just play BF4 (I have that on my hard drive) until I get the 4.5
ironically since i re enabled rest mode and putting game to suspended state again mine has been fine, ps4 issues seem very random and not consistent.
Happened again last night. Now it plays for a few minutes then spits the disc out
I think I maybe able to take it back to sainsburys and get it replaced under the sale of goods act. It's about 18 months old
You have 12 months not 18 Swanny .
Buying a Console from a Supermarket ?

You have 12 months not 18 Swanny .
Buying a Console from a Supermarket ? He's certainly entitled to try. Sainsburys is the type of company that might concede. A bit like John Lewis. No guarantees, but you don't get if you don't ask as they say!
what is interesting about this is that these consoles are supposed to read everything off the hdd, with the optical drive just been used for installation and DRM enforcement. So if a game is spitting out the disc after 10+ mins of playing (and I guess shutting down as a result), I guess these drives are actually been used more than just for installation and DRM.
Sony do have a repair service for out of warranty, you just have to pay for it, but will be cheaper than buying a new console.

Buying a Console from a Supermarket ?
not as stupid as it sounds actually, as nelly has said they tend to have customer experience as a high priority policy, and may concede even with no legal obligation.
Tesco once gave me a full refund for a brand new washing machine simply because I didnt like the installation.
Yeah its worth a Punt i guess, but i just don't see them giving him a replacement, they might tell him where to send it for repair and that will more than likely be Sony.
I took a Dyson Vacuum cleaner back to currys that was not fit for purpose,we only had it 12 days and you should have seen the fuss and confusion that arose when i arrived.
I actually spoke to Dyson direct before returning this product to Currys, they actually rang and spoke to Dyson before eventually agreeing to exchange it.
And that was a the latest upright vacuum from Dyson that worked on some carpets but not others, heads stop spinning as soon as it went on a carpet with any sort of decent pile, and you needed muscles like Arnold Schwarzenegger to push the dam thing...
Or wait for the 4.5 Upgrade
Yeah but that wasn't 18 month later was it.

When have you ever listened to Nelly and Vice Versa

...they might tell him where to send it for repair and that will more than likely be Sony. If he turns up in that purple hat, they might tell him he has 30 seconds to leave the building before they call the police.
nope, but you never know.
What I wouldnt do it just push it aside and buy a new one, that's insanity from my point of view. Especially as a 18 month failure of a part thats supposedly not heavily used would put into question the build quality of the product.
http://www.theguardian.com/money/2011/feb/05/how-lon...
Because manufacturers tend to give one year's warranty on goods, retailers will usually push you in their direction if the product breaks inside the first year.
However, SOGA provides cover for goods bought for up to six years in England and Wales. This means if a TV fails after 13 months, you still have rights. Assuming the item has failed through no fault of yours, and it was "reasonable" to expect it to last longer given its cost/quality you should demand, under the Sale of Goods Act, that it be replaced or repaired by the retailed, not the manufacturer. Once the item is six months old, the onus is on you, the consumer, to show the item failed as a result of a manufacturing fault.
Worth a try
Or wait for the 4.5 Upgrade
That's exactly what I'll do. I can still play BF4 as that's digital
and you buy a 3rd time if the 4.5 fails after 18 months?
Ha ha !!!
I think personally he had some cow dung on his wellies and i think some of it lodged inside the playstation 4.
Who knows what the future holds
I've just tried this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUDx9TOT8VU
For the love of god noooooooooooooo Swanny!
That fix requires a screwdriver.........and you're a plumber!
I didn't have a screwdriver here that was long enough (all my kit's at work) so I used a nail
Just testing it to see if it worked :/
so seems the problem is caused either by the stupid touch sensitive eject button they implemented, or the screw becoming out of adjustment triggering the emergency eject, and this problem you go out and buy a new console. O_o
That didn't work
I even tried the turn it off for 3 mins. I turned it back on, it made loads of whirring noises, loaded the disc which it then said was the wrong one for the game. Then it decided it was the right one so I started playing the division until it ejected the disc again.
Basically it's [censored]
Shame, because what Mr WULLF said (awesome name ) looked and sounded promising. Were you careful? He did mention that over adjustment would definitely make it spit the disc out!
If not then I would chance your arm with Sainsburys. I've always been aware of the six year rule, but never had the inclination (time consuming) to follow it through, mainly because the onus is on you to prove that it isn't fair wear and tear; i.e. you haven't been ejecting and re-inserting discs 200 times a day for eighteen months!
You could claim that all you've ever really done is play a digital download of BF4, so hardly ever touch the disc drive. Just for your info, John Lewis give 5 year warranties on their TVs, but only two years on built in DVD drives. They know it's an issue even if you hardly ever use the built in drive (heat perhaps?), so that could bolster your argument that 18 months is completely unacceptable.
Good luck Lieutenant! If you pull this off there's a promotion in it for you.
Look on the bright side, when now playing the division you can concentrate on collecting more beanie hats for your collection instead of actually doing the missions.you have also got extra time as you won't be picking Swanny up of the floor every 10 seconds
No news on the console replacement then Swanny .......Not looking Good then
Haven't tried yet
If that was mine it would have been down the store the following day,you could always spread a bit of muck outside of the store if they refuse
I need to get up in the roof for the box but my steps are over the work shop :/
Don't need a box, thats of little importance, however receipt is mighty important
Guess where the receipt is
In your Barn
Hahahahabaha!
In your dungarees?

Yarp
So Swanny you have a faulty Playstation 4 and refuse to even try and take it back 2 weeks later, seen you on Battlefield 4 last night.........Oh Dear
I haven't been over to get my steps so I can't get in the roof for the box and receipt
BF is digital download so I can still play that. I'd forgotten how good it is, I really enjoyed playing it again
The division had a massive patch and new content yesterday around 4gig in size.so go and get your steps you lazy git or borrow some from the Farm next door.
I just found the box. It was in the spare room in a GAME bag :/
Looks like I'm [censored] I can't see GAME helping me out
Yeah they don't except Massy Ferguson tractors unfortunately as trade in items. .
And like i said you don't need the box ,just the receipt.and you said it was from a supermarket.

I thought it was the ps4 I bought from sainsburys but I remember that was the 2nd ps3 I bought from sainsburys
Oh well looks like I have to wait for the ps4.5 to come out
Get a third party repair? There were plenty of places doing it for ps3, not sure about the ps4 though.
Well after trying all of the other fixes none of which worked I decided to try the tear the rubber foot off from underneath the eject button and last night played Division for 1 hour and 10 minuets
So hopefully it works ok again
Just put it in the Skip and by a Sega Megadrive
Hope that sorts it out
Played for about 3 hours last night no problem
what is it you have actually done, makes little to no sense to me .
Right underneath the eject button is a little rubber foot. It presses against the eject button. I pulled it out so that it can't press

Yea tried all that, even spoke to sony

Well its kind of boring really having originally said you was going to exchange for another one but couldn't put your hands on your receipt in the Hay Loft in the cattle shed
Thats great, such a easy fix but could have easily meant having to buy a new console if the information on how to fix it wasn't out there.

Is it common to have problems with PS4's or is it rare?

No idea
I always thought Sony stuff was good but they don't seem to be much good at making consoles. I have a dodgy PS4 and a broken PS3 :/
As far as my PS3 is concerned, it's the nature of the beast. Heat is the enemy of all things electronic. Add in the form factor and it's always going to end in tears.
The point about your particular PS4 problem, is that it seems to be a design flaw, which is very, very disappointing from a leading manufacturer.
bad luck
Yeah,I'm extremely sad and upset and it kept me awake for hours last night thinking about it

It's junk now
Won't keep the disc in at all
Sony want £125 to repair their bad workmanship. [censored]

That's [censored]
You going to repair it/replace or give up on it ?

New ones are £280 I'm not paying that. Might have a look for a 2nd hand one
Or might just wait for the new one to come out

My boss is selling one for £160, less than 12 months old mate!

Rumour is that the new one is meant to be out in September.
Ok I might be interested in that. What size is the HD?
I wonder how much it will be?
No idea but guess they will drop prices on the standard PS4.
£160 sounds a good deal though.
Even better seeing as I think he'll let it go for £150!!!

profiteering on dud products is something I never tolerate. That is atrocious.
At least Microsoft in their RROD days were repairing stuff free.
Can you not go without your PS4, is social multiplayer gaming really that important?

It's important to those of us that enjoy taking the [censored] out of him his company.
It's top sport trying to understand what Swanny [real name Neville] and his gay lover Marko [real name....Marko] are saying.....eee, wur eye, wur oh, wur dip.
Plus he needs a few of us to look after him when he gets poorly.
His close friends call him Killer; he doesn't look a bit like Jesus, but he talks like a gentleman.
