Post Office introducing a new FUP, no details

[link to this post]

The Post Office® Fair Use Policy has been amended and the new policy will come in
to effect on the 1st June 2012. The Post Office® has amended the Usage Guidelines
and Fair Usage Policy Enforcement sections of the policy.

The new Fair Use Policy can be found on the Important Information TABs of the
Home Phone, Broadband Standard, Broadband Extra, Home Phone with Broadband
Standard and Home Phone with Broadband Extra product pages.
Except so far as I can see it can't. They all just loop back to there.

Note that you must take line rental as well for £13.50 pm with John Lewis, unlike PO.

Seeing as JL own Waitrose, and Plusnet long ago absorbed Waitrose internet provision this isn't much of a surprise.

So, is it that Plusnet are unloading Waitrose, or are Plusnet and Waitrose becoming the same thing, though PO, PN, Waitrose or JL, you are all at the mercy of BTW.

this isn't much of a surprise.
It may not be any surprise about JLP/PN but, as you correctly noticed, the surprise was posting about JLP within a PO thread. I was just trying to put that right.

BTW: What about Greenbee? Had PN already absorbed that? Cuz JLP is offering to transfer existing customers of both Greenbee & Waitrose. It probably more a matter of product cost/contract than physical platform.

I think, possibly wrongly, that Greenbee was an ISP, which ran the Waitrose vISP. PN then bought Greenbee. Or maybe there was an intermediate step - MadAsaCucumber. (Something fishy there). I've a feeling that could have been it.

It's that sort of link, anyway.

My brain hurts and I'm hungry, but it should be googleable.

Still amazes me how they can change any part of the service whilst you're in contract with them, but as soon as you break any terms, you're chucked off.

[re: RobertoS] [link to this post]

I need some advice on this , last month i agreed for a 3.50 month discount over 12 month , which was all paid on my next invoice (£ 42) but if i left with in 12 month would have to pay in back.

i agreed to the above based on my current terms and conditions as the terms are changing (80gb usage then blocked according to cancellations) which will be a detrimental to myself ( i have been told by them my usage is over 100gb), assumed i can leave with out paying the £ 42 back they are saying i have to are they right ?

the said that paragraph above that RobertoS posted is only relevant, to people in contract. please help

I have just got of the phone to the Post Office, after being promised 48hours ago that a FUP would be available online by now. I was given the impression that a document was ready to be posted but had to be withdrawn because of the wording.

The chap told me that the limit would be 100 GB, when I challenged him to the extent that this could not classed as unlimited, he back tracked and said this would just be a guide and that the connection would not affected !!!

He still could not give me a definite date for obtaining the finished FUP.

To get this far I had to ask for a MAC code to get a reaction.

I think I will probably leave them.

I agree, hence just quoted my news summary.

UK average is 17GB per month, VM has a 25GB last figure they published. So four times average could be seen as well beyond average. Again down to interpretation.

100GB and traffic slowed down slightly would be fine, but a total cut off and ejected from the service would NOT be acceptable.

Once figure is known, then time to unleash the complaints people.

I have just spoke to a manager who read me his beefing regarding this.

at 100gb you would be throttled. so i assume on that , they can still call it unlimited?

i forgot to add, before they throttle , you would getting a letter. he also said there is about 3000, people this will most likely effect, who are very high users, and ther details are in a excel spreadsheet.

luckily mine where not in there, but on average i do about 100 to 130 gb a month

A lot would depend on the level of throttling, and potentially an ISP could throttle a 24/7 torrent user to the edge of zero. Particularly if that traffic is not legitimate, i.e. could be seen as copyright infringing, or perhaps illegal/infringing in other areas.

Put it this was if someone phones support moaning about their download of Assemblers Avengers being slow before its out on various rental services or to buy, then ISP can shrug shoulders and carry on

Unlimited should mean just that, Unlimited.

If they need to manage traffic then that is a different issue. I don't see a problem with large amounts of data traffic in the small hours.

At least BT and the new JL Broadband state clearly what their management policy is.

Maybe the PO should take note.
