Retraning / SNR target ?

[link to this post]

Hi all, Does anyone know if requesting your line to be "retrained" will put the SNR target margin back to the default 6db ? Im asking becasue im sick of having a 15db target margin ! Take a look at the emails replys ive had from my ISP (Fusion) in sick of it ! does anyone know what they are doing ??

Ok first i asked them (ISP) "Please can you arange with BT to lower my target SNR margin back to 6db from 15db. After a couple of days waiting i emailed them again to see what was happening and got this responce...

"Dear Tim,

i placed this request with BT on the 4th although it hasnt actually been
completed yet. BT have a 40 hour SLA which means any request we make they have
40 business hours in which to action upon it.

please be assured i am chasing BT and have attempted to esclated this issue
today."

NOTHING HAPPEND so i emailed again asking the same thing... and got this reply...

"Dear Tim Francis,

The SNR margin is something that BT rarely change because it is all set
automatically by the DSLAM equipment. i have requested again that your SNR be
set to 6. this should be actioned within the next 40 Business hours."

Still nothing so i email again... and get this reply..

"Dear Tim Francis,

BT have informed me that it is not possible to change the SNR on a line. this
is because ADSL MAX is a rate adaptive service, because of the way the product
works it automatically gives you the lowest SNR it can. in your case the SNR
cannot be set to 6dB.

if i can assist you any further please don't hesitate to ask "

So i email them again saying that what they have said is a load of rubbish, as once before they have been able to put my target margin back to 6db ! I get this reply...

"Dear Tim Francis,

We understand what you are asking, however this is not possible as ADSL
Max is a rate adaptive service. The exchange manages your SNR and
automatically assigns the "best" possible SNR. Please accept our apologies for
any inconvenience."

I give up at this point, and ask them if my line can be retrained. So what i realy want to know is does retraining set the target snr to 6db ?

PS this is the reply i got for that email

"Dear Tim Francis,

to confirm i have made a BT ticket to request your line enters retraining.

if you wish to discuss this matter any further please don't hesitate to
contact me."

Please someone help ! its driving me up the wall !

Thankyou so much in advance

the idea of retraining is to go back to the initial 6 dB/Fast profile and start again, picking up a new SNR etc. Seeing is believing
