Goscomb broadband

[link to this post]

Hi,

Could somebody tell me about Goscomb technologies, more importantly their ADSL MAX product.

It looks very good, but I want to know more about the company. Are they reselling the ADSL product or is it their own?

Anybody with them who can give me a traceroute to bbc?

Cheers.

Top, top ISP. Similar to IDNet, Zen, AAISP etc in terms of speed and reliability but cheaper if your main use is at peak times. I pay £30 pm for a 8128/832 kbps 60gb connection. Their ADSL Max service is based on an Enta L2TP service which means they pre-purchase the bandwidth from Enta so it is not subject to ALT or whatever Enta call it these days.

Tracing route to bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.138]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 4 ms 3 ms 4 ms 192.168.0.1
2 33 ms 34 ms 33 ms lns0.sov.uk.goscomb.net [77.75.111.248]
3 34 ms 32 ms 31 ms ae0-112.rt0.sov.uk.goscomb.net [77.75.104.237]
4 34 ms 34 ms 34 ms rt-lonap-a.thdo.bbc.co.uk [193.203.5.90]
5 33 ms 33 ms 33 ms 212.58.238.129
6 35 ms 31 ms 35 ms virtual-vip.thdo.bbc.co.uk [212.58.224.138]

Trace complete.

I take it you have interleaving enabled? Where abouts are you in the UK?

Without sounding silly, what does L2TP mean?

It's between these guys and Zen.

They could be worth a go, not heard of them before but it's only a monthly contract.

How much usage do you actually need though? With Zen's 50GB package at £24.99 you'd be getting an excellent service 24/7 with a multi-award winning ISP. Unless you need the 60GB at a little extra over Zen I'd say just go with Zen, you know what you're getting with them.

(I only left them for an ISP with a bigger usage, but now Zen have doubled their usage I'm moving back to them)

Usually 40gb a month. Downloaded 48gb last month, uploaded 10gb.

The contention ratio on Goscomb is 20:1 and the upload speed is 832kbps.

Guys,

I'm thinking about Goscomb and AAISP. Does anyone have experience of Goscomb's _native_ IPv6 service?
