FTTP; Oh Yes !

[link to this post]

Well my shiny new FTTP service went live today..... 😉

6.8 Km from the exchange, EO line in rural Northumberland., as you can imagine, speed was never a strong point of the service. 1.8Mbps maximum download, 0.5 Mbps upload was the absolute best ever achieved ....

but tonight... 69Mbps download; 18Mbps upload. life is good 😀

Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

Yes it is, it could have been pushed further without a problem but this level of service captures all my current and defined immediate future needs.

Ill review it further down the line

Excellent!

Another advantage I've found in (presumably) a different part of Northumberland is that the connection stays up when it rains heavily. Bliss.

I don't think that's a well-publicised aspect of FTTP, but I can see where you're coming from laugh

Yes, had mine live since January '18

Was in two minds but the decision was made for me when it was looking like I might have to work from home due to the weather conditions (the office was going to be closed if it snowed but people would work from home and me and colleagues were expected to keep an eye on things to make sure they could) and right on cue my broadband started to flap (3 km line which used to be affected when people started getting lots of Christmas lights out with badly shielded adapters)

Luckily for me it didn't snow on the Monday but rang and placed the order as it worked out about what I was paying for line rental and ADSL.

Wondered why I didn't do it sooner.

Virgin (ADSL) => Namesco => Newnet => O2 => Plusnet => Zen => Newnet => Zen => Freeola => Vivaciti (using O2 Wholesale DSL) => Xilo (C&W Wholesale) => Xilo (O2 Wholesale) => Xilo (TT Wholesale due to O2 Wholesale closure) => Zen LLU => Zen FTTP (39.5 Mbps down, 9.5 Mbps up)
Router: Fritzbox 3490
Note: I don't lay turf for anyone. astro or otherwise, all views and opinions expressed are my own based on experience.

That's seem low as I getting 75-76Meg down and 18/19Meg up on FTTC 80/20. I thought FTTP would get u closer to 78Meg and 20Meg?
