Maybe it was written for the HG612 and ECI "bridged modem/router" modems and those might not have the facility. 😂🤣😂🤣

Could be... but as Trevor said, it's basically a good idea.

And OR seem to have written their vdsl DLM to be a lot more user-friendly than the old BT adsl variety, seems a shame to leave it out frown

Yes I do hate EVIL DLM - pretty stupid to wait 30 minutes to swap modem or router.

The 'Dying gasp' only works when you do a Restart via modem switch ( or Pin in hole) or from the software menu. Most people seem to do a power down at the switch/plug which kills the modem or just unplug the modem from the OR socket which gives no time to send anything.

In reality 5 dying gasps a day means instability somewhere. So discounting them is not so good . From an OR / ISP perspective too many resynchs just take up more load on the DSLAM, / BRAs, etc. slowing down every other response as they take more CPU load than ordinary traffic.

One line doing it is no problem but multiple lines start to have an effect.

Complete substation outages / major power cuts are discounted elsewhere. BT/ OR often spot these from BB stats long before the power companies know. ( 5-30 sec is possible in theory!) They can spot cable thieves the same way, cut the cable and alarms start flashing due to BB sessions going down..

In the cases where I've advised a restart, it has tended to resolve the issue which suggests it was a service on the router, customers are on a mixture of ADSL/VDSL and Virgin Media,

I was just interested to know if that was still generally accepted practice for BTW based circuits, when I was given the advice myself, I was on BTW ADSL.

Virgin (ADSL) => Namesco => Newnet => O2 => Plusnet => Zen => Newnet => Zen => Freeola => Vivaciti (using O2 Wholesale DSL) => Xilo (C&W Wholesale) => Xilo (O2 Wholesale) => Xilo (TT Wholesale due to O2 Wholesale closure) => Zen LLU =>> ZeN FTTP (100 Mbps down, 18 Mbps up)
Router: Fritzbox 7530


Note: I don't lay turf for anyone. astro or otherwise, all views and opinions expressed are my own based on experience.
