Getting Openreach Line Removed

[link to this post]

Hi. I had FTTP installed by FullFibre Ltd a few months back, who ran a new overhead fibre from the Openreach pole to my house, a few feet away from the original copper dropwire. Where do I stand on getting the now redundant copper line physically removed? Can I pay Openreach to come out and do it or will they just want it left there until they replace it with their own fibre in the future? A chap round the corner has actually cut his off, then taped it round the pole. I'd rather avoid getting a telling off for interfering with equipment that isn't mine though. Granted it isn't exactly the end of the world having two lines running across, but it just seems a bit pointless leaving it there when as far as I'm concerned it will never be used again.

Thanks.

As devil's advocate here OpenReach might look at it and think they cannot be certain how long you will be at the property - if they remove the cable and then something happens that means someone else moves into the property and wants an OpenReach line then they would have to run a new line in requiring engineer time rather than just reactivating the old line.

I suspect you have no plans to move but plans can change and OpenReach won't want to come out and remove it if there is a chance they may be asked to put it back in again.

I thought that once FTTP was available from BT OR then PSTN or POTS was a non-sell item?

Cheers!

I thought that only happened once ‘stop sell’ was enabled for an exchange area which required sufficient coverage.

Irrelevant as the OP said they had a connection from FullFibre limited which by my understanding is an alt-net. That they are using PIA is not relevant.

I’d go along with that

I thought it was around 75% coverage for an exchange area !

My original 50-year old copper installation was underground, coming in to a box in the hallway. After my City Fibre cable installation (from the street and under my lawn) I contacted OR and asked them to disconnect the copper. This was done f.o.c and the guy cut the cable and even removed the old box so I could fill in the hole and redecorate.

I've found all my encounters with OR and CF people to be very satisfying. And there wasn't even time for the OR man to get tea and biscuits.
