For the Openreach stuff they're mostly having to work with existing infrastructure which often isn't fit for purpose. New sections of duct need to be laid frequently. Even unblocking an existing duct in a pavement is often notifiable.

If the altnets are having to lay new infrastructure that shows on the map too.

Maybe it's area specific but when they finally started building FTTP in our nearest town early last year I was able to watch it slowly and painfully progress right the way to our village before it finally became available to order in March this year. It seemed then to be the most up-to-date method of checking.

Just a word of advice, before you start telling witchunt about Openreach rollouts you may want to know they are in the job there and are considered one of the most clued up and respected sources of knowledge about Openreach on this forum.
