download speed up to 220mbps. link speed at 3mbs.
Could you explain what you mean here
Am totally confused by the OP's explanation of the issue (probably bad terminology), would be good to understand what speed they are paying for and what speed they are getting when doing a speed test through a wired connection, all this about downloading movies is not a good measure of speed.

when I was speaking to the gigaclear engineers was explaining that the download speed into
the pc when downloading movies, netflix amazon prime was around 2.5 mbs. In there answers
they were saying the download speed is nearer 200mbps. I wanted to know why the old gigaclear router had download speed of around 45mbps and link speed or download speed downloading movings into the pc was around 5mbs.
They had no answer to why the new router and wall unit was up to around 200mbps and the download or link speed into the pc downloading movies was down to around 2,5mbs.
I was hoping that link speed was the correct terminology to describe connection between the router and pc - not speed coming into the router!
my last post says 5mbs where the laptop is connected directly with ethernet cable to the router.
The router is in a cloakroom hence powerline adapters around house.
my second to last post says 3mbs but that was an mistake - it's arounf 5mbs directly plugged into
Lynksys Router

Have you confirmed the 200Mbs downstream speed with a speed test on your equipment or are you relying on what the engineer said?

The conversion between Mbps (megabits per second) and MBs (megabytes per second) is as follows

(8 bits = 1 Byte)

Mbps divided by 8 = MBs

MBs multiplied by 8 = Mbps

A download rate of 2.5MBs is equal to only 20Mbps

Tested new download speed on browser, gigaclears speed test around 200/220Gbps which is good!
Yes, the conversion is 8 bits = 1 Byte - this is my question and problem!
I would expect the speed of download closer to 8mbs coming into the pc Its Not - its around 2.5mbs.
the old router broadband speed around 45mbps and 5mbs coming into the pc.
new router is 200mbps and 2.5mbs coming into the pc.
i've only downloaded movies and tv series and went to google chromes download page to view the numbers. always been reasonably accurate.
original payment plan was for 50mbps and all these years been fine. I was happy with 5mbs.
I only upgraded as it was dropping out so got engineers in and they replaced with new.
They said the signal was too high which probably causing drop outs. it has now been reduced and new router installed - so basically not an good result!

Are you using a Windows, Mac or Linux? What program are you using; or web browser, and do you have any security software installed?

If using Windows (10 or 11) if you bring up Task Manager, you can see the actual speed in the same units that broadband companies use. For example "megabit per second" often written as Mbps. This is very different to "Megabytes per second" that you will see in a download, often written MBps.

To illustrate I just downloaded a Windows 11 disk image (ISO) from Microsoft, from this page:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/wi...

My web browser said the download was running at 46.0MB/sec, see picture:
https://i.postimg.cc/P51KxZM1/browser.png

Task manager shows receving at 401 Mbps, see picture:
https://i.postimg.cc/ZKW41Yxx/tm.png

This is fast as my broadband is only advertised at being able to do 380 Mbps.

So for absolute clarity are you saying when you connect via a wired connection to your router and use a web browser and do a speed test the results show your getting 200Mbps download? yes or no

Correct!
Wired connection to router via browser is 200Mbps using gigaclear speed test page.
