Hi,
I currently have EE broadband and I am experiencing slow connections. When I had the orange livebox my speeds were fine and I could load everything e.g. youtube/facebook/google images. Orange gave me an upgrade to move to EE Broadband which I did and apparently I was going to get faster speeds and they charged me £5 extra.
Now when I got the internet, everything was fine for about 3 or 4 days after those days were gone this internet is a nightmare! I went onto bt speedtester and the website gave me the results that my downloading speed was 0.40mbps? everyday this is dropping, I cannot even buffer a 3minute youtube clip anymore? I mailed orange 3 times now and they just kept giving me the same response "please check your speed results and send them to us." Which I have done and they havent replied back. What is the problem!
From my ip address I went into advance setup - system - adsl satus and these are the results.

Hi,
I'm not on Orange/EE, so i dont know your router.
Try changing your Operation Mode from AUTOMATIC to ADSL/G992.1(G.DMT).
ADSL2+ maybe struggling to much on your long line and cant stabilise.

apparently I was going to get faster speeds For what reason? Were you on an up to 8 Meg ADSL Max product before? If you were already on ADSL2+ there is no reason you should get faster speeds.
All your stats are good except: Downstream 862 (Kbps.) You should be getting 6.4 Meg Down Sync here. That's the reason for slow speedtests.
The usual reason users get slow syncs on EE is the Down NM being held too high but your NM of ~6dB is correct. So I can only think EE has you on a banded profile. Tell them to take you off it and let it free-wheel.

With my old orange livebox internet I used to get atleast 3mbps with this im getting less than 1mbps? I have already emailed orange 3 times now and all there reply is please check your speed results and send them back to us? which I have done 2 times now.
I remember when my old orange livebox internet started to decrease its speed to less than 1mbps and when I told orange about this they said we will send an engineer round. When the engineer came he was working outside and then said someone disconnected your line earlier which was causing you the problems. He connected it all back up and my speed went straight back upto 4-5mbps? I dont see what the cause of this problem could be. Im just really confused.
Thank you for your help.

Hi, I find the EE Orange Bright Box wireless router a very good router, to select different ADSL modes for your connection go Advanced Set-Up > Accept > ADSL Mode.

Advanced Settings / Accept/ Broadband Settings/ adsl mode
but doubt it will help.
You haven't answered my Qs: Why was you upgrade supposed to give you faster speeds and what package were you on before?

Sorry i didn't see your question, My internet was supposed to be getting higher speeds because I changed the package to go to fibre which I wasn't on before and I heard it was supposed 2 be a lot better. I have changed the setting from my ip address to ADSL2+ which hasnt really helped. Im going to be sending another email out to orange.

My internet was supposed to be getting higher speeds because I changed the package to go to fibre which I wasn't on before But your BrightBox is not on Fibre; it's on ADSL!
Do you have an Openreach modem nr. the phone socket and an Ethernet cable joining that to the BrightBox? Did an OR engineer install it? Doesn't sound like he has set it up fully.
I don't know what supposed to happen when you have a router set to ADSL on a Fibre connection. I would have thought it would be remotely set up by EE. Failing that you need to set it to Fibre/Ethernet manually.

If you are going to fibre, then that requires an engineer to deliver the Openreach modem.
The Fibre services take several weeks to go live from ordering to delivery, even if you are a customer of the ISP.

It will not make any difference if you change your Bright Box router ADSL mode, set the ADSL operation mode back to Automatic.
Downstream Connection Speed (Kbps.) 862
Downstream Attenuation(dB) 47
Downstream Noise Margin/SNR (dB) 5.6
Your connection has problems estimated based on your current ADSL2+ service, normal speed range at 47dB attenuation is 4500 Kbps to 7500 Kbps

my bad that was my mistake, i got confused with other broadbands as I was looking to change again. You are correct it is on ADSL and I had to setup the router myself.

Was wrong, my internet is on ADSL. I bought this new router as an upgrade and orange said we would be recieving 60minutes to any network and some other bundle aswell.
Dont get me wrong, this internet was really great when it was actually set-up and working properly like it should but now I don't even get 1mbps

I went onto the website to check the details and I got this, Your Estimated connection speed using ADSL mode (maximum 8 Mbps)
Bad
Normal speed range at 47dB attenuation is 3600Kbps to 5140Kbps
Below is an estimate of the speed based around your
current sync speed and the supplied noise nargin.

Does having 3 phone lines in the house affect the speed by any chance? I have one connected to the main socket near my computer. another connected underneath the stairs and another in my room. Does this affect the speed?

The phone connected to my router is right next to my router and the main socket. About 1metre.
I also went onto the second website and this tells me I am 2.32km away from the exchange.

When it was set to automatic I changed it to ADSL2+ which didn't help. Well, it wouldn't! You were already running on ADSL2+. The router defaults to "Auto" which usually chooses ADSL2+ (G.992.5).
However, you were told to change it to G.DMT (G.992.1) or ADSL2 (G.992.3). Please try both and report the stats back here.

I was on Orange Livebox and got a call from orange telling me there is an updata in the router which is the EE Broadband. I usually pay £15 a month but they said the price has changed to £20 a month and that our speeds should be better than before and also 500minutes to any mobile network.

The switch to ADSL G.992.1 hasn't responded as it usually does, the upstream usually stays high.
Your gonna have to do the usual test of removing the lower cover of the master socket and test in the test socket behind if you have one. Record the router stats again to eliminate interference from internal telephone wiring in your home. also if possible, test with another modem/router and filter if your not using a filter plate.

I did these speed tests on http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ No, do the 2 ADSL Mode changes and report back the router stats as you 1st did. Forget speedtests for the mo', your problem is with what the router is connecting.

So you were told that by changing the router you would get faster speeds? That is untrue!

I do not know if I was on ADSL2+. From all I can remember I think I was on ADSL before the upgrade. I was getting faster speeds with this router but that only lasted 3 days after I got everything setup. Now my speeds are not even 1mbps which is really odd. When I had the upgraded broadband my speeds were at around 4mbps.

I have finally fixed the issue. Like I said I had 3 landline phones connected in the same house and because there where 2 phones connected to 1 socket each this caused my download speed to go down. Now my speed is running at atleast 6mbps which is fantastic. I did ask earlier if having 3 landline phones connected would be an issue but no one bothered to reply to that. I took 1 phone of which was connected to the socket and my speed is all back now. I have 1 phone connected to the socket and the other phone isnt connected to the socket but I can still recieve/make calls through it. As they are both the same phones.
|
|
|
I'd say its either
1. A line fault causing low speed syncs
OR
2. Moved onto 21CN WBC (ADSL2+) and after a few days a banded profile has been applied limiting speeds.
The later can be reconfigured by ISP support, the former will require engineer visits to assess, report, visit, try to fix, report, visit again and possibly fix.

I think folks would have automatically assumed all the phones were filtered and would have concentrated on ADSL issues.
Was the phone that you disconnected unfiltered?
|
|
|
Three telephones that are working properly and correctly connected and filtered should not be an issue.
I don't understand what you mean when you say "the other phone isnt connected to the socket but I can still recieve/make calls through it" - do you mean that this other telephone is a cordless DECT handset?

Properly filtered phones should not affect the BB.
How many sockets in house and which ones (master or slave) are phones connected to? Are any phones cordless? In which case only the base station counts.
If removing 1 phone corrected problem, then it was either unfiltered or faulty.

Now with modern digital telephones only wire connections 2 and 5 are required, 3 is for the old electro/mechanical telephone bell wire connection and can cause interference with broadband, the number 3 wire should be disconnected at NTE5 master socket.
