Basically, any connection wired or wireless may or may not successfully connect through the router. The (WinXP SP2) tray icons report connected, the properties dialogs report the correct numbers, and trying ipconfig /all at a command line show the same correct IP addresses. Trying to use the connection simply refuses to talk. It wont even ping or tracert to the router or anything else on the LAN. Traffic monitoring, such as a firewall or built into the wireless driver, seems to indicate no traffic is even being sent over the link.
I've set the PC IP address to static, with the correct netmask. The gateway and DNS are set to the IP address of the router. This is exactly the same as what happens if the connection is set to use DHCP. The IP addresses are valid and consistent for what the router expects.
Telling Windows to repair the network connection (sometimes needs to be done more than once) or disconnecting and reconnecting will eventually bring the connection to life. Everything then works perfectly.
I've disabled and even uninstalled the firewall (I was using ZoneAlarm). I've now installed Comodo, and have the same issue. I've upgraded to the latest firmware and drivers for the network cards, wireless cards, router, etc.
Non-Windows-based computers connect without fail every time. Wired or wireless.
What's happening? Haylp!!
