Re: Orange Brightbox as repeater?

Just want to confirm that this works. It worked first time, no fuss. I didn't bother setting my PC with a static IP. However, it works flawlessly via Wireless and Wired. I use my laptop, phones, tablet via wireless and my Xbox via Wired.

Thanks for this post! You saved me £20 by not needing to buy a repeater.

I have no trouble using a Bright Box 2 router an an access point with my Virgin Superhub without changing any advanced settings.

1. Connect the Superhub to the Bright Box 2 with a Cat5e cable. Plug it into the red WAN socket of the Bright Box 2.
2. Using another Cat5e cable connect a PC or laptop to one of the yellow ports of the Bright Box 2 (4th is the fastest port)
2. Switch on the Bright Box 2 and wait until it is fully booted up.
3. Using a web browser, type 192.168.1.1 into the search bar to bring up the Bright Box 2 'log in' screen.
4. Log in using the username "admin" and the associated password found on the back of the Bright Box 2.
5. Click on the "BASIC" tab.
6. Change the Broadband Type radio button to "Ethernet" and the Protocol dropdown menu to "Routing"
7. Click "Save Settings" and you should then be up and running using the SSID and password as seen on your Bright Box 2.

I now have the original (weak) superhub wifi and the two much stronger Bright Box 2 2.4GHz and 5GHz wifi signals.

Hope this helps others as I wasted three hours trying to manipulate the various DHCP IP settings without success.

Hi. so the above solution sounded great for me...trouble is im using 2x brightbox 2 routers (also have a brightbox 1 that i would like to add)

Im guessing when i link 2 of them together as described when i try to log in the 2nd router, because it has the same ip address as the main router, i cant. It says password is incorrect. Probably because its trying to login to the main router.

Does this sound right?

I have 3x ee routers that i would like to daisy chain, cascade, or whatever the correct term is from house to garage to summer house.
I have sufficiently long ethernet cables to hardwire them one to the other, but getting stuck on the technical setup. im not experienced with kind of stuff.
Is it possible? ee told me it isnt.

If so, can someone kindly explain in an idiot proof way how to try and do it.

thankyou

So you make the IP (Gateway Address) of the 2nd diff from the 1st, but outside its DHCP range, e.g. 192.168.1.254, just like a post above.

Thanks for replying. That much I understand.
I believe the problem is that as the two boxes im trying to use have the same ip address, I can't change the 2nd routers ip because when I go online it automatically goes to the settings for the main router. So how do the access the 2nd router to change it?

To configure the settings of any router, you only have that router Ethernet connected to the configuring PC one-at-a-time.
