Re: Almost 18 months with ADSL24

thanks James for your comments
I should state for the record that my speed returned to normal this morning - probably after the manual kick that James gave it.
It was not anything to do with adsl24 - and appears to have been me knocking the phone connection so that the connection became poor for several hours on friday night, saturday morning - thus causing the ip profile change

i hope that was the only reason, ive not changed any equipment recently and as ive not had any problems before, fingers crossed....

that was the first ticket ive raised and adsl24 dealt with it quickly. Ive always been happy with the service and this confirms it

thanks

Well as said i have connection issues from day one of migration when the idiots at BT exchange moved me onto the new kit with C&W. From day one i knew it was a BT engineer fault as its not the first time i have had this. After doing a line test with everything plus the faceplate removed, it looks like a voltage issue and now just waiting on that to be fixed.
I know not all BT engineers are stupid but some clearly are.

George Anderson is my account name encase ya need to look it up James

I am glad you got it sorted, just a shame you still on the BT kit, I was glad to get away from the stupid profiling that Bt does. Thank goodness that Cable and wireless decided to unbundle our exchange just before they closed down Bulldog.

I am with ADSL24 11 months now and I cannot fault them one bit. Started of on ADSL then with a lot of help from James I was able to get a fibre order pushed through which I am more than pleased with as previously on a 1Mb connection and now getting aroung 2.3MB/s smile as the line is now on a 17a profile.

I have not been using my 30Gb allowence (Highest 17GB in a month) as I would download after midnight or at weekends and get full speed with no restrictions or throttling at any time of day or night. I am tempted to opt to the businees option to give me the free use after 8pm on weeknights as I am starting to use iPlayer more in the evenings so maybe after xmas upgrade the line to that and convince myself the extra £10 a month.

I would not hesitate to recommend ADSL24

C&W don't like the BT 2 wire
Router works fine with next door neighbors connection but now hates our line with C&W
Netgear is now holding solid

Things have not been good for me lately. Peak times sees me slowing down to around 1 meg. I have contacted support but they cannot do anything unless my speed drops below 600kbs, which is the threshold at which the BT speed tester will perform extra tests.

Fortunately for BT, the lowest it goes is about 800, so I have to make do with rather slow internet from around 8pm to 10pm.

At 8:43pm:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 1183 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps

THis definitely looks like a hot VP issue as your SYNC and IP profile are both perfect. Out of interest are you on wireless or ethernet, and has another router and PC been tried? smile

Not that impressed with my netgear, my old speedtouch 585 is far better, holds at a lower SNR and gives me a bit more speed. the netgear seems to just disconnect for now reason at all and yet it got a SNR of 10 most of the time.

the problem with my speedtouch is that after a couple of weeks it cuts out and I have to leave it for a day or so and then restart it, so will have to replace it at some point, but with what?

Saying that I may take it apart over the week end and see if there is dust blocking the vents. after all it is a few years old, so there is bound to be a lot of dust in it.

Sorry to hear that, I am glad I don't have to rely on Bt rubbish any more.

That is what your support have said too, James.

"While BT are conceding that there are problems at the exchange with congestion (the 'virtual paths' 'running hot') it's also noted that while your service is affected by this it is still within the bounds of 'threshold rates' for your service and that because of this the service is not deemed by BT as running 'at fault' at present."

I'm just in the unfortunate position of being pretty much riiight on the lower threshold before action is taken. But rest assured as soon as it drops below that threshold i'll be back in touch tongue

I'm surprised at how low they are allowed to set the threshold, really. 600Kbs is acceptable on an 8 meg service? Hmmm....
