Cutting BB without cutting TalkTalk 3?

[link to this post]

Can you avoid the fine equal to how much the contract is with talktalk by staying on with them, but losing the broadband? And if you do this, can you sign up to another ISP, most if not all ISPs say BT Line required, but it is still a BT Line isn't it? The cables splits at the DSLAM so one company could control the ADSL part and another the POTS part?

I don't see the point in paying for the next 18 months of [censored] "free" broadband with nothing to show for it, when you could pay the

While people are having problems, if the those with problems behave like this is it little surprise that people don't take things seriously?

I have posted this elsewhere but it might be important here.
When I signed to Freedom2Surf there was a clause about having to pay line rental to BT. I asked if it would be OK to switch to PostOffice line rental (there was a

If the fault is ADSL based then it goes via your service provider
If it is a voice fault via whoever is your line rental company.

If it is both then generally via the line rental company, as getting PSTN working is very likely to bring the ADSL back online.

If the line rental company is not BT Retail, then yes it can add another layer of helpdesks between you and the repair staff. Why some of the WLR companies are cheaper is that they feel they can do cheaper support than perhaps BT.

With the creation of Openreach it is becoming more obvious in our various dealings with BT that borders are becoming more distinct, and it is possibly now harder to bypass some layers to get things resolved quickly, i.e. the rules to make all providers have equal access does not actually mean better access, just equal access for all.

If you have BT's wholesale line rental then the line is still a BT line, you just pay your bills to another company any engineering work is still carried out by BT. Therefore is you did have a problem with your ADSL your SP just raises a fault with BT Wholesale who will then resolve the issue. It is irrelevant who you pay for your line rental.

Essentially, TalkTalk, Post Office etc are just reselling a BT line the only difference is billing.

TalkTalk do offer a a WLR package for customer and certainly whilst working at another ISP I did see customers with TalkTalk WLR (line rental) singing up for this alternative ADSL service.

I dont know if you can have the TalkTalk Talk3 deal with alternative ADSL, however TalkTalk do offer cheaper calls in a WLR/ CPS environment and this does allow customers to purchase alternative ADSL packages.

I have to disagree with StevieT78. "Essentially, TalkTalk, Post Office etc are just reselling a BT line the only difference is billing. "

Many WLR providers run WLR as a loss leader and component of their businesses which focus on call spend. Nobody really makes money on Line rental and in the last few years BT have actually had CHEAPER line rental than WLR providers.

Don't forget the costs involved. Line rental is really a type of insurence. Line Plants and repairing Joints and Street Furniture is not cheap. If you call an Openreach engineer out and the fault is your phone you are looking at Time Related Charges of
