Opal by their old name, Talk Talk Business by their new name.
This issue only seems to occur when there is a break between two locations and it seems that they'll reroute traffic leaving some service than none at all.
The pattern though is far too consistent: Base latency seems to stick around 120ms and it can randomly affect lines all over. Sometimes even lines on the same exchange see different results. Two lines on the same exchange, one will see the problem the other wont.
I didn't have the increase in latency yesterday but did notice a drop in session. At the same time, other lines had an immediate increase in latency.
This only used to occur on the Opal network on the original "Talk Talk" exchanges. Since they merged the ex-Tiscali exchanges on to the same backhaul network, those locations do see the same problem too.
We're monitoring all the lines we can on that service, as well as a number of Talk Talk customers who have let us ping their router and other partner networks using the TTB wholesale product.
We don't see it occur too regularly which is part of the problem in a swift diagnosis as by the time it was escalated from TTB SMC to their NOC, the issue had stopped. This has now been raised higher within TTB so hopefully it will address why it seems to affect the network so much.
The flip side is that customers still have some internet connectivity even if a little laggy or slow instead of a complete outage but it seems that many would prefer a complete outage to know that it is an actual fault opposed to just a "slow down".
