Help Bt wire and sockets

Hi This is my maiden post. I want to improve my internal wiring and BT sockets. So my question is:- Our external phone wire was replaced about 2 years back. The whole street was done.
WHere the new ext wire enters the house it is terminated in what I would describe as a BT Junction box.(small white retangular box. From there a short internal wire goes to a single socket box which has the BT logo in the bottom right hand corner. I then have an extention that runs to my desk. It is terminated via a standard sigle extention socket. (this is where I have my microfilter, which is then connected to my Linksys ADSL2 gateway AG241.

How can I get BT to fit a modern nte5? socket instead of the old BT one?
Ideally I would like the main wire to enter from the other side of its current possition, direct into an NTE5 box so I could then use the ADSLnation box.

Can I get bt to change the old box to new NTE5 without charge?

Does the NTE have a removable bottom half or is it a one piece face plate? If it was two years back, I would have expected them to have fitted the split face plate.

If the bottom half is removable you can fit your own filtered face plate.

If it is a one piece face plate, the you will need to pay BT to change it to a two piece including the filter.

if you only have one wire that goes junction box -> socket -> extension socket then you'll struggle to improve it much.

Stats from the router would indicate scope for improvement.

You are on a fixed 2Meg product, so no matter what you do you are unlikely to go faster unless you switch to a faster package.

Extrapolating based on those figures, the attenuation suggests a full 8Meg is possible or more with ADSL2+, but the noise margins are an area for concern, but this may be the result of the modem backing off the power levels.

No it is not an nte5 master socket. just a plain old Bt master socket. ie its a one piece plate not split. To my mind its BT socket that is so out of date that I think BT should replace for a modern NTE5 master socket.

It is not out of date and provides all of the necessary functionality - you can connect a 'phone to it for voice or a filter to provide voice and ADSL connectivity. Give me a valid reason why BT should replace a fully functional piece of equipment at their cost. If you are prepared to pay - then fine but not FOC.

I am most happy with my speed from Zen. But in the search for cost savings Zen at �34.95 a month are I am afraid expensive. My local exchange is due to be O2 LLU on the 30th of this month. So I will go for this. More speed + less cost= better use of my meager wage...

Its just the [censored] BT junction box and master socket I wish to resolve.

Fair comment. So the question is can I buy my own NTE5 master socket and ADSl face plate and install from the crappy BT master . To be clear, not replace the BT master but run a new NTE5 socket at the side?

there's nothing wrong with the master socket, if you run a twisted pair extension from that to the router and have no other extension wiring there's nothing to be gained.

You can put an NTE 5 next to the existing master but there is no point, it's the same as a plug in microfilter.
