Re: Adsl through electric adapters..Netgear...

Can you draw the picture of your exact setup?

You have a plug with the homeplug in it. Beside that a multiplug with the switch, xbox 360 and ps3?

You can use it fine with the ps3, but the xbox changes the quality of the signal on the homeplug when its on?

Did I read that right?

Edit: Read this review, you might be able to learn something from it.

I found it very informative about powerline adapters as I too want to get off the wireless on to something with a bit more responsive pings.

Ok Gzero i will try and explain it the best i can bearing in mind my technical limitations.

Used to live in a house with all the gear in 1 room,pc,playstation 3 ,xbox 360,nintendo wii, i had these all working on a wireless network as they are only a few metres away and basically all functioned very well with the xbox 360 downloading at the fastest rate i guess.

Now live in a 3 storey house and the pc is on the second floor in the office/study area connected to a Dg834 n modem/router.

Now for some stupid reason or another the builders of this house have seen fit to put telephone sockets everywhere bar the living room which in my case with all the media equipment is the most important.

I could have tried to set up a wireless network but i thought the signal would be pretty poor considering now were the router is situated..

Since i like online gaming its important to have a good connection/speed as you well know so i went out and bought some up to date kit that feeds the adsl through the electric sockets, suppose to be as good as if not better than a direct port into the modem/phone socket.

Now i have a 8 meg connection here so i am well pleased as i have stuggled to get more than 2 meg before.

So here we go.....................

Netgear dg834 modem /router upstairs connected to a pc,i then have another ethenet cable going into a Netgear homeplug av network kit [xavb101] just like a thing that plugs into the wall socket.

I now take the second one downstairs behind tv and plug that in,out of that another ethernet lead going into a netgear 5-port gigabit ethernet swith [gs605] now i plug ethernet cables into the back of the playstation and xbox 360.

There is a powerline light on the plug Green link rate 80 mbps Orange 50-80 and red 50.

So i turned on the playstation 3 and all the lights on the av homeplug and ethernet switch were green.i tried to download a 500mb demo which to my surprise downloaded in about 20/25 minutes, normally on a wireless network at previous address this would have taken 3 hours.

So i turned on the xbox 360 and went to xbox live and downloaded the new zombie game which is about 350mb which took 6 hours and downloaded at a snails pace.lights on the switch when xbox connected are orange so something somewhere is wrong.

I think it has something to do with Duplex setting which you can see on the playstation settings that its set to auto detect, but i can not see any mention of this in the xbox network menu.

I have tried talking to xbox live but there about as much use as a ashtray on a motorbike,if i dont find a solution then i am selling the xbox elite and concentrating on p3 only which i do most of the time anyway.

Try doing a longer test file from our server, the previous showed that the link/hardware is not the problem, i.e. 1GB in around 30 minutes from the XBox

Andrew excuse me for sounding stupid but i am looking at this website on a pc and not a 360,so clicking on your test files and downloading it on here makes no sense to me and i dont understand how this has anything to do with a 360 download issue.

Unless you are saying that i use the 360 to view the website and then download a file as that makes more sense to me.

What I was thinking was that the xbox was power 'noisy' compared to the ps3. Hence why I was interested in what it was plugged into. My line of thinking is the xbox is causing interference for your homeplug, but obviously need to do tests like what happens with the xbox on and file transfer for the ps3.

Most of my stuff is plugged into a cable extension surge protector except the xbox for obvious reasons [it get hot] since the xbox 360 is in the main socket next to the av adapter it might be worth me trying it in the surge protector and not direct.

If you have a 360 or know where the duplex settings are then let me know,my next test is to change them on the pc but i dont see that making any difference as the playstation auto detects and is really fast.

Saying that i have had both consoles on at the same time and playstation 3 is Green link but xbox 360 orange so it does not clash with the playstation or cause that to slow the same systems.

Ah ok.

Can you move the xbox into the room with the router and give it a test there? Or I take it you wouldn't be able to access a screen there?

"Unless you are saying that i use the 360 to view the website and then download a file as that makes more sense to me. "

and a reply to a previous post in this thread had suggested you had done that and got a 10MB file in 15 seconds
