Ok Gzero i will try and explain it the best i can bearing in mind my technical limitations.
Used to live in a house with all the gear in 1 room,pc,playstation 3 ,xbox 360,nintendo wii, i had these all working on a wireless network as they are only a few metres away and basically all functioned very well with the xbox 360 downloading at the fastest rate i guess.
Now live in a 3 storey house and the pc is on the second floor in the office/study area connected to a Dg834 n modem/router.
Now for some stupid reason or another the builders of this house have seen fit to put telephone sockets everywhere bar the living room which in my case with all the media equipment is the most important.
I could have tried to set up a wireless network but i thought the signal would be pretty poor considering now were the router is situated..
Since i like online gaming its important to have a good connection/speed as you well know so i went out and bought some up to date kit that feeds the adsl through the electric sockets, suppose to be as good as if not better than a direct port into the modem/phone socket.
Now i have a 8 meg connection here so i am well pleased as i have stuggled to get more than 2 meg before.
So here we go.....................
Netgear dg834 modem /router upstairs connected to a pc,i then have another ethenet cable going into a Netgear homeplug av network kit [xavb101] just like a thing that plugs into the wall socket.
I now take the second one downstairs behind tv and plug that in,out of that another ethernet lead going into a netgear 5-port gigabit ethernet swith [gs605] now i plug ethernet cables into the back of the playstation and xbox 360.
There is a powerline light on the plug Green link rate 80 mbps Orange 50-80 and red 50.
So i turned on the playstation 3 and all the lights on the av homeplug and ethernet switch were green.i tried to download a 500mb demo which to my surprise downloaded in about 20/25 minutes, normally on a wireless network at previous address this would have taken 3 hours.
So i turned on the xbox 360 and went to xbox live and downloaded the new zombie game which is about 350mb which took 6 hours and downloaded at a snails pace.lights on the switch when xbox connected are orange so something somewhere is wrong.
I think it has something to do with Duplex setting which you can see on the playstation settings that its set to auto detect, but i can not see any mention of this in the xbox network menu.
I have tried talking to xbox live but there about as much use as a ashtray on a motorbike,if i dont find a solution then i am selling the xbox elite and concentrating on p3 only which i do most of the time anyway.
