I still want to know what's happening on their network at 2am/2pm though. I'm an IT guy, so I won't be happy until I know!
I doubt we'll ever know. Companies don't tend to share the reasons for their issues. I suspect it's a scheduled system or database backup job that's saturating the network, or maybe a rolling restart of nodes. Depending on how their network is set up, it could even be a user doing something very stupid like doing an off-premise backup.
The 2am issue was much worse this morning, with a full hour of bad pings and packet loss spiking up to 50% at one point. I'm not too concerned about the 2am one, but the 2pm issue is a bigger problem as I work from home and have standing Zoom meetings every day at that time.
