VM problem and strange request from tech support

[link to this post]

Having issues again with what looks like congestion.

I am having a conversation with one of the tech support guys on the community forums.

Hes just asked me to check that if a connect a patch cable between 2 ports on the hub 3 both port lights come on.

They do, but I dont understand what that proves?

FYI my BQM

And creates a loop that will tank the network in second till it's unplugged.

Any half decent switch will detect that, and ignore the ports. Anyone using a basic hub would be advised to upgrade smile

I wonder if the SuperHub 3 is running each switch port individually through software and this provides some basic test, otherwise it does seem only a basic test of some of the cores of a patch lead.

He asked to plug in a cable, not the one I was using, Ive got another hub downstream, and not using the wifi either, its basically acting as a modem.

Cant use modem mode because the router I have is too slow even for the 350MB speed I had before.

Ive asked for an explanation, the guy isnt back in till 2 pm tomorrow.

The connection is getting worse by the day, something is broken somewhere, I did seen some VM guys working on the mini exchanges locally with laptops on the top of the cabs, by the way they were watching the screens and waiting around I'd guess a software upgrade. I didnt think the internet was served from the same cabs?

This is the reply I got.

"This is a case of seeing that the ports on the hub are fully functioning and are able to give us a fair test when running speed tests on a wired connection,"

Clear as mud...
