Ajax tutorials

Hi, I'm going to be creating a new web application shortly and Ajax has been recomened to me.
Can anyone recomend any resource sites with tutorials/IDE's that sorta thing?

Do you plan to use Microsoft technologies (ASP/ASP.Net) or open source (such as PHP, Java, etc)?

Erm.. Currently it's undecided.
Were wither going to use asp.net or Java/Websphere depending on dev time and support costs.

Well if you go the Microsoft route I'd consider using the CTP version of Atlas which although beta (with all the warnings that apply) looked good in a Microsoft demo I saw last week.

Rasmus' 30 second AJAX Tutorial

Take a look at script.aculo.us both for tutorials and ready-made Ajax libraries.

Cheers, have been looking at them all but the idea has been scrapped.

How come?

Just wondering because I've used AJAX for web applications in the past (professionally for the company I work for) and if used in the right situation I think it's brilliant. What was it going to be used for?

We decided for 2 resions, 1 the amount of extra work would increase the delivery time and 2 that the application doen't really require the benifits given by AJAX.

Without giving too mutch away(I'd get killed if I mentioned what the sysetm is on-line) the system was kind of a stock manigment system.

I wouldn't say that AJAX is much extra work though, once you get the basics up and running which if you nab existing tutorial code off the net only takes a few minutes. The last company I worked for had a web application and they wanted something done that would've made pages incredibly large if handled traditionally. I got an AJAX solution working in 2.5 hours that made things much faster

Still, if the solution didn't suit AJAX, then no point wasting time on it.
