Problems cancelling Pipex Contract (notice period)

[link to this post]

I'm not sure if its just me who experienced this issue. I had called to give notice to cancel my contract with pipex. Just last week, i was told that I needed to give them 10 working days notice. However when I called today, I was told that because they are in the process of migrating there systems. They wouldn't be able to take my notice until the 24th Nov and then they would apply 30 days notice from the 24th Nov - in which I would then be charged for December! I find this totally unacceptable. Any advice?

If the Terms & Conditions of your contract state that you need to give 10 days Notice of Termination then I don't think a refusal to accept that Notice because it is inconvenient for them has much going for it from a legal point of view.

However do you really mean you tried to Cancel your contract? That would almost certainly result in an ADSL Cease order being placed by Pipex with BT unless you are on Tiscali LLU. That would result in you being unable to have a MAC in order to migrate and unable to order a new connection which many ISPs charge for until the Cease had been carried out by BT, which is not always immediate even if your broadband connection to Pipex has stopped.

Pipex seem to good enough at doing that without encouragement!

So without knowing exactly what you have in mind, I would have thought what you actually wanted was a MAC to enable you to migrate, and you have already been pointed to a highly relevant thread.

He said they claimed it would be 10 days before they would accept him giving them the required 30 days' notice! Also, he may indeed be aiming to cancel entirely and move -- someone else had the same problem with Pipex

Nope!

He said "I had called to give notice to cancel my contract with pipex. Just last week, i was told that I needed to give them 10 working days notice." There is no contract in the world that requires you to give 10 days notice of giving 30-day notice.

Re someone else having the same problem, there was indeed somone a few days previously, but do you mean this post? In which case read my first post in that thread .

Maybe I interpreted it in the light of the other thread, i.e. he meant they said they wouldn't start his 30-day notice for 10 days! Which, if he's genuinely cancelling, is of course unacceptable -- but I guess we won't know unless it's the same person after all

Guess it'll depend on what exactly your T&Cs say, but I can't imagine that in internal migration of systems is adequate reason for a broadband supplier to refuse to accept your giving of notice! Amazing what they'll try & get away with though isn't it!

Exactly, most ISP's allow you to fill in an application form. This is proof of the date you apply, unlike a phone call to a desk jockey who will deny everything.

They are playing you around, time to argue with them, talk to a supervisor.
