You make it sound as if BT/OR was the only show around. All companies have problems at some point. Whether it be TT, BT /OR or even Plusnet. You just have to go on their forums to see the sometimes horrendous problems that some people have.
Me, I'll try any ISP, even a new one that suddenly pops up. February, I (and I'd imagine a lot people around these parts) had never heard of my new ISP. They run on TTB for their backhaul offering FTTP locally. I have no complaints with them whatsoever.
I can also see why their vans are always in the area doing new connections. They now offer even lower pricing which puts the offers from BT etc (FTTC) to shame. £19 per month (no line rental) for 120Mb/s FTTP up and down service. It really does pay to shop around - even if it means putting one's prejudices to bed.
For many people OR is the only show in town, Here we have Talk Talk, sky, vodafone and Zen that have unbundled network, but once past the exchange, they still run on the same network.
I used to be on Cable and Wireless network years ago, it used to be Bulldog, I think it now belongs to Vodafone, there was very little difference, sync speed was more or less the same, download speeds was a little quicker. That was compared to being with BT, and we are talking about ADSL here.
You don't have to tell me about plusnet problems, I have read about them and a mate of mine used to be on at them a few times, saying that I think most of the problems he had was his own network. I suppose I have been lucky and apart from that stage when I could not get a sync on any other modem/router apart from a Huawei one i have had no real problems and Plusnet sent out OR a few times to try and sort it out.
so that was a OR problem, not a plusnet.
BT retail have always been expensive, maybe they depend on people being silly and sticking with them because of who they are, just like people stick with British Gas. My next door neighbour for a start is with both because she trusts them and they both been around for years. Silly reason to stay with a company that charges sky high prices unless they offer something you want that the others don't.
I will see what happens next year and how far Zzoomm is with their network by the time my contract ends with plusnet, also what can plusnet offer me pricewise.
