I know there is a difference, but I don't really want to give Talk Talk any of my hard-earned money, I have had to deal with the company and I have also seen how they tried to slam a mate of mine by trying putting him on their network when he did not ask. Sure it may be the retail side that did that, but I still prefer to stay clear of them

You make it sound as if BT/OR was the only show around. All companies have problems at some point. Whether it be TT, BT /OR or even Plusnet. You just have to go on their forums to see the sometimes horrendous problems that some people have.

Me, I'll try any ISP, even a new one that suddenly pops up. February, I (and I'd imagine a lot people around these parts) had never heard of my new ISP. They run on TTB for their backhaul offering FTTP locally. I have no complaints with them whatsoever.

I can also see why their vans are always in the area doing new connections. They now offer even lower pricing which puts the offers from BT etc (FTTC) to shame. £19 per month (no line rental) for 120Mb/s FTTP up and down service. It really does pay to shop around - even if it means putting one's prejudices to bed.

TTB backhaul are more reliable than BTw / OR backhaul but don't get me wrong as I only had about 4/5 times issues with PN network in the last 7 years for FTTC 80/20 was banded on the line once.

So did you ever get the double up - banded on TTB and banned on TBB at the same time?

TTB use Openreach. BT Wholesale and Openreach are quite different things so best not to confuse them.

TTB use Openreach both to get to exchanges and from them outwards in many cases.

BTW is often more reliable than TTB. BTW backhaul is usually resilient, TTB often isn't.

For many people OR is the only show in town, Here we have Talk Talk, sky, vodafone and Zen that have unbundled network, but once past the exchange, they still run on the same network.
I used to be on Cable and Wireless network years ago, it used to be Bulldog, I think it now belongs to Vodafone, there was very little difference, sync speed was more or less the same, download speeds was a little quicker. That was compared to being with BT, and we are talking about ADSL here.

You don't have to tell me about plusnet problems, I have read about them and a mate of mine used to be on at them a few times, saying that I think most of the problems he had was his own network. I suppose I have been lucky and apart from that stage when I could not get a sync on any other modem/router apart from a Huawei one i have had no real problems and Plusnet sent out OR a few times to try and sort it out.
so that was a OR problem, not a plusnet.

BT retail have always been expensive, maybe they depend on people being silly and sticking with them because of who they are, just like people stick with British Gas. My next door neighbour for a start is with both because she trusts them and they both been around for years. Silly reason to stay with a company that charges sky high prices unless they offer something you want that the others don't.

I will see what happens next year and how far Zzoomm is with their network by the time my contract ends with plusnet, also what can plusnet offer me pricewise.

Me as well - my next target plan is moving G.fast 160/30 to FTTP 160/30 later on next few years time. There are three areas nearby me are rolling out FTTP by Openreach expecting my area new few years time.

On the roll out map our area is marked as 'work in progress' and the FTTP manifolds are pole mounted all over our local area so just waiting on TT to offer the service.

True, but fibre can have other problems if the ISP can not cope with the demand.

G.Fast areas will probably not be high on the priority list. The surrounding ones with only FTTC will get done first, and the team move on to elsewhere.

Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro max 165Mbps down, 24Mbps up on Three, and B311 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.
