hello, well ive got my mac code from supanet today and filled out all details to join plusnet now so hopefully a week or so and will be on a reasonable nighttime gaming speed, one thing though and ive tried to read all guides and i cant see an answer,it said the email address is active already but when i try to log into email i get this message
ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server
also cant find where to change account name to username+mailbox so windows mail can access it
not overly important as i use hotmail alot, but i like to have a backup email address

Hi unviased,
Welcome to PlusNet
Can I ask if you are using an email client or whether that is using webmail?
Also if you could let me know a ticket number on your account, I'll be able to have a look for you.
when i get the imap error its on the plusnet website, from the email link at top of page, i am right in thinking that name = my username, yes and not the mailbox name, although tried that and said it didnt recognise it anyway, the webmail program cant seem to access the plusnet email server at all, keeps asking me for a username and password even though its right, from connection help it said you have to change the account name to username+mailbox, but i cant find option to do that, as for a ticket how do i get one
just raised my first ticket woo hoo, number ID: 23452301 , hope thats right and helps

Hi there,
I think I've fixed this now for you.
Can you try again for me?
hey thats quick work, login fine now thanks alot
outlook express works and the plusnet site,
gonna get a bit emotional now as have never had any sort of help from my old isp supanet in about 2 yrs and its nice to have it within about 15 mins from yourselves, excuse me, gotta go dry my eyes
(dont suppose you can make the migration happen as quick can you)
I'm afraid that my powers fall short of miracles
The migration will take 5 working days once we've placed an order on your behalf.
fair enough, thanks again for help

I certainly think having staff posting on this forum is a big plus for PN.
It's always good to see a problem sorted out so quickly.
Hope you don't need their help too often.

certainly is David... how do AOL compare these days ..... lol
You troll me even when I make a "pro" PlusNet comment.

Sorry about this but like i said its working for me to get into now, just been testing it but when i try to send emails to plusnet address from my standard isp and hotmail it comes up failed delivery, if i send an email from the plusnet site to my current isp email address nothing happens, if i send it to hotmail i recieve it from plusnet but in the format [email protected], tried replying to this but also comes up failed
any idea's

I don't like talking about AOL on this forum, but just a quick line or two.
I have always said AOL customer support is carp. When I was with PN wasn't always happy with CS, but at least their response was in English. Apart from the odd hic-cup it looks like PN have improved in most areas, including CS.
I think what lets PN down ATM is their PR Dept.
Make an offer to try and get customers tied in for 12 months, nothing wrong with that, but don't dress the e-mail up to look like something it's not.
So why don't you come back?

Hi there,
I'm not sure that I follow. Are you saying that if you login to webmail and try to send an email to your currently address it fails, but others work fine?
What happens if you try sending to your current address from your hotmail account?
Ah-ha, I think I know what this is (makes a change )
Within webmail go to 'Options' > 'Personal Information' and then change the email address stored in there to the one you want to use. Should fix the issue.

will try and explain, lol, sounds clear in my head but when i write it down it gets a bit muddled,
using plusnet email from your site-
if i send to my current isp's email address nothing happens, no failed message and nothing on my email server, although this could be because supanet have a really bad junk mail blocker that blocks nearly everything and wont let you even check it.
if i send to my hotmail address, the message is received, but if i reply to it , it comes backed failed delivery
if i start from scratch on either hotmail or my current isp's email address and try to send an email to my plusnet mail address it also comes up failed delivery
hope this is a bit clearer
just tried this and sent another email from plusnet to hotmail, comes up with correct details but when i reply still says failed delivery, lol
I'll pick this up in the morning when I'm back in the office unless someone else gets there before me.

Let's hope we see no more of Plusnet going off in a sulk for a few months then :-)

I'm confused by this one, I've just sent a test message and this has come through straight away. I haven't been able to get a bounce message yet at all.
Can you try sending an email to me from webmail and I'll try replying? My email address should be in the new test message you have.

hiya just wondering if there was any update on this problem,as still have it
Hi there,
Chris is in Prague at the moment and I'd imagine he's steering clear of the Internet cafes!
I must admit I'm slightly miffed by this one. I have managed to log into your Webmail account and send an email that arrived successfully. I then replied to this email and it arrived back in your Webmail inbox.
I've set your Spam folder up too just to make sure none of your email's in there but it isn't. I'm struggling to find any problem at this side if I'm honest.
Kind Rgds,

unbiased, can you just go thorugh what does and doesn't work again. Also can you provide some info on the bounce.
From what I have read you can send emails through PN fine but when you reply to them they bounce. Is this correct? I am wondering if the bounce is being caused by Hotmail or PN. The bounce message should cover this. Also how are you accessing your Hotmail account? If it is POP then is the Hotmail reply server set to theirs or PN?

gonna be a day or two before i can get back to this as my isp has decided to stop supplying me 2 days before migration. not due til thurs and cut off today from them, and yep i have ntified offcom about this as as far as i understood they arent allowed to do this
Have you tried putting your PN details in your router/modem as the migration may have occurred early? If you can't log in try phoning PN to see if they can activate your account early.

Just a thought after reading this bit...If you were trying to send using the PN smtp server then this would fail with a relaying not allowed bounce as you need to be connected to a PN connection to send through its servers.
As for having no connection, I have read a few reports recently where BT have completed the migration early, so it is going to be worth giving your PN credentials a try. There is also a PN test username and password ( [email protected] I think). If using this works it would confirm whether the BT side is working and your authentication request is being routed to PN rather than your old IP.

thanks for help both of you, checked with plusnet, account is due to be migrated on 29th, so will have to go cold turkey for a day or two, gulp
on a plus side offcom said they are investigating into supanet's decision to disconnect me as this violates the offcom reg's, will be happy to give some grief to them after all problems they have caused me before
Hi Unbiased,
I've had a look and the order is still due for the 29th and hasn't completed yet so I've not activated the account. I'm not sure why supanet would have cut you off, they haven't placed a cease on the line because that would have knocked out the migration order.
Hope you manage to get somewhere with ofcom, I'll keep an eye on your order and let you know as soon as it completes but to be honest I would be surprised if it did complete early.
Sorry about the hassle, hope that helps,
Matt would it be worth unbiased trying the PN BT test login just in case BT have completed early and failed to do the paperwork (well hit the right keys on the computer)?

thanks for help guys, will try it tonight that bt login, glad the cutoff hasnt affected migration, thats the thing i was most worried about, as it offcom said it could cause hassle with the switchover, my only internet fix is at work at mo, albeit very briefly, i even had to talk to my wife last night becasue of no connection

> i even had to talk to my wife last night becasue of no connection
Believe me it can get a lot lot worse.
When I had some downtime I had to listen to mine,......... just shows how desperate it can make you.

Replying to my first post so if anyone is interested it gets noticed, ive sorted this problem, although it wasnt really a problem more of me not understanding it fully, what happens is windows mail steals my plusnet mailbox in effect, so if i get a message on the plusnet site i can read it there no probs and reply, but if i access it in windows mail it takes the message from the plusnet server, this is probably common practice but i wasnt aware, but anyhoo its sorted and working great, and using it through my windows mail which is alot easier
Is there a "leave mail on server" option (on your windows email client), that would prevent it.
