Plusnet customer service at it's best.
Really nice engineer who didn't mind explaing what he was doing/did seeing as i picked up some knowledge from this site.
Just got to let it settle down.

Do you mean onto 80/40? if so i'm on it.
|
|

No I mean the Current Line Speed given here https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer... (login required) which is supposed to mirror the IP profile but takes a while to catch up
|
|
|
|
It says 53 and as always as

|
|

Actually the relevant value is 41Mb but either way that isn't restricting you to that extent
It should however be 49Mb
Were those tests wired or wireless

All wired

In which case I have no idea why the speeds are so slow
|
|
|
|
You mean my latest test today?
Mine always takes a couple of days to get the d/l up to a decent speed, the upload max i have ever got is 8.50 ish from memory.
But coming from 02 with 6.5 d/l 1.3 ish up is a stark difference.

Never rains eh.......
Router as gone down, using it via PPPoA till a new one turns up.

As above running via PPPoA Should i notice anyspeed difference not using the router?

I've been puzzling why you are posting all these results and think some are OK or getting better. Ok this morning it seems to be ok. How is it OK?
Every time you post these BT tester results the throughput is all over the place while the IP Profile is fairly steady. Your issue is with the throughput.
When you do this BT speedtester you need to also look immediately at your 'Current line speed:' in your PN a/c and check that is not damping your throughput.

What firewall are you using then? As you can trust the BT Wholesale site, it might be worth turning on Windows firewall, (most IS suites turn it off), then disable your IS while you do the test. Then put it back on and disable the Windows firewall.
They can cause strange buffering, which could cause that. There is no possible way it comes out of the DSLAM faster than the IP Profile, and all examples such as yours have been traced to IS(f/w) buffering.

Very occasionally I get a speedtest.net result above my IP profile ( example), usually this is when the test has appeared to stop and start a lot rather than run smoothly. I have never, on any product, had a BT speed test report a speed above my IP profile.
Edit: This is a "real" one I've just done, although I feel the ping is rather unrealistic. My IP profile is 69.31Mbps.

The only figure that matters on that PlusNet page is the Current line speed. The estimate side is for a different purpose altogether and isn't of concern wrt your current problem.
The Current line speed is the fastest PlusNet will allow data from their routers to you. It should automatically change to slightly below the BT IP Profile as reported by the BT Wholesale speed test, within a few hours of a sync speed change.

You may have noticed that your 'Estimated line speed' never changes. It is just the estimate, as it says, back in the day when you took out the product and, as RobertoS says, has no relevance to you current issues. As I pointed out earlier, you should be concentrating on 'Current line speed'.

Even so we're only talking about a couple of meg here and there. It should sort itself out if your line is stable, if it hasn't risen to match your IP profile within a day or so then raise a ticket or post on the community forum and someone should sort it out pretty quickly.

The valid comparison is the BTW speed test actual download, the IP Profile reported there, and the PlusNet Current line speed (read just after the test). The current line speed, as I said earlier, should be a fraction below the BTW IP Profile, and the download speed, barring oddities, will be a bit below both. Or a lot below if there are issues.

Sorry to hijack your thread. Thought it would be interesting to point out my current line speed is 78 but my sync rate is limited to 64/16 with BTW speedtest results of 60/11. My upload profile should be full 20mbps according to BTW and my download a bit over 62.
So looks like DLM is messing with me.

As per my message, the line now seems to be working to acceptable standards as the estimate cannot be fully guaranteed. Also, in this instance, there is aluminium cabling present on the line and the full estimate is based on a network fully supplied (from the cabinet) by copper.
