My bold:- The DrayTek Vigor 130 is an ADSL and VDSL modem with an Ethernet connection; it is not a router but a true ADSL/VDSL Ethernet Modem (bridge). The Vigor 130 provides compatibility with all current UK VDSL/ADSL technologies; it has been extensively tested and tuned to provide a robust and reliable DSL connection.
The Vigor 130 is an IPv6 ready compact VDSL2 router with ADSL2/2+ fallback for SOHO and residential broadband access requirement. This compact router .... Link.

What about "Enclosure : External"? Is the alternative having the casing sitting on a surface with the circuit board lying on top?

Well ........... just a stupid typo really.
The Vigor 130 in the UK is a modem, the thing that confuses people is that this exact same device is sold in much of the world as a router.
In the UK DrayTek specifically set this unit up as a modem for Adsl/VDSL2 connections and to be compliant with BT/OpenReach regulations.
The router capability was removed from the UK models.
It is an extremely good device , mine has performed beautifully.

what a boring ugly modem
What a dumb stupid comment.
It is neat and slightly smaller than the OpenReach modems , at the end of the day the only thing that matters is that it does the job .

I agree the Vigor 130 is an excellent modem and in many ways i prefer it to my HG612...the 130 seems a lot more polished. However what made me go back to the HG612 was that there appears to be no easy way of getting the line stats through the router, you have to disconnect the lan cable to the router and then connect it your pc which can be a right old faff. Draytek support have told me its not possible yet I've heard about someone who's managed to view the stats on a non-Draytek router. Did you ever manage to do this?
|
|
|
I use the Vigor 130 with default settings connected to an Asus RT-AC3200.
I can view all settings in a browser by calling 192.168.2.1 , that gives me the full GUI and access to all the stats.
No need to move leads etc.
The Asus routers have 2 WAN IP's ))

Thanks, I'll dig out the 130 and hook it up to my Asus RT-AC5300. I definitely can't view stats through a Netgear R9000 or Linksys EA8500.

In the Asus GUI check this :
WAN - Internet Connection > Special Requirement from ISP > Enable VPN + DHCP Connection (set this to yes )

Grrrrrr I cannot find that setting:

Maybe i need to install Merlin firmware on the AC5300?
Edit: found it! That setting appears once you select PPPoE as wan connection type (which i do use). Many thanks mate

As usual these days, so much for support. The Vigor 130 line stats can be read in the browser interface, when connected to the 2860, 2925 and the 2830n V2 I have here.

It says that in the Draytek writeup prof . Which did have me a bit concerned about non-Draytek routers until I read the above posts.

Thanks to those who have posted about getting stats from the 130, particularly wrt ASUS.
Are they reasonably full stats please? As in Max Attainable rather than just sync, also interleaving depth and G.INP info.

Now ordering the 130 after confirming death of OR modem. It would not feed the Draytek, just like the Fritzbox.

The webgui on the 130 just gives you basic stats (actual xdsl sync rate & SNR). To get comprehensive stats incl G.INP status, max attainable rate etc, go to web console in webgui (top right icon) and type
'vdsl status'
'vdsl status more'

In the V130 GUI look at the top right , there are 5 icons, middle one is Web Console.
Click that and type vdsl status (enter)
next type vdsl status more (enter) that gives you this :

Just concerning why do peoples want to buy Draytek 130 - what so special of this? This hardware doesn't come with any wifi and very poor vdsl stats (not full stats) and why have to use two seperator eg: Modem and Router plugged two sockets.
I am more than happy with Billion BiPAC 8800NL with just one socket and still getting full vdsl stats and I know the wifi is very poor on this hardware but it doesn't bothered me at all as I use ethernet direct to my pc. Can use this poor wifi to access my smartphone!

As usual your talking out of your rear end .
It is a MODEM . it can't have any WiFi.
It is designed to work with cable type routers or as a bridge.
As to stats it has FULL stats available via the GUI or telnet and far more than most other devices around.
People use a two box ( or more) system for many reasons, I can reset, configure , tweak or turn off my router without disturbing the modem or upsetting DLM .

The Draytek 130 is a dedicated adsl/vdsl modem. Many people (myself included) prefer a separate modem & wifi router setup as you get far more options available on a standalone router (eg OpenVPN server) not to mention better wifi & more powerful processors on the higher end routers. Horses for courses really

Yes but plugged two sockets seem a bit daft (waste of electricity bill in my view)

Quite simple Max, as in my case and at least one other here, the ISP supplied modem router is [censored]. Others we own, about ten here, either don't like the ISP flavour of VDSL IPv6 or don't have a built in VDSL modem. Some, in the case of cable routers have no inbuilt modem at all. So the bottom line is, that a separate modem gives a bigger choice of router, along with compatibility in some cases. But I am sure such a knowledgeable chap as you knows that Max, so can only assume you are just winding us up about your posh router, when the likes of us plebs have to make do with a Fritzbox and Draytek triple WAN in our collection

I have suffered your faulty router Max and returned it, after Billion admitted faulty firmware and hardware causing latency spikes with Dell wwireless cards. Switching wireless off was the only cure. Now that WAS a waste of money! http://www.billion.uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3529

My 2 devices use no more electricity than the Billion 7800N they replaced.
With your one box system you have zero flexibility, you can't configure your firewall with ip tables or set up your own servers or media systems.
It would take all afternoon to list the options you don't have with your one box system.
As to your Billion 8800N having weak WiFi ....... perhaps you should seek advice on setting it up correctly.
That router runs at the maximum signal output allowed in the UK.

How can I set up Billion 8800NL as a modem mode only but connect to my Netgear DGND3700v2 for the router mode only (as this one is pretty good on wireless)
I haven't got any clue how to setup? Any clue and help please.

Yours isn't showing G.INP, but that is to be expected as it's on Fast Path. The HG612 does the same.

I try that, but it didn't work! Oh well never mind. I couldn't get back to Billion login webpage as I have to use factory reset and setting it all up again, I have to power down and wait approx 30 minutes to avoid DLM (was connected to Cabinet for 382 days).

Really? I drop my sync regularly and I've never been hit with DLM. On Thursday I swapped my router out 3 times in an hour and still survived.

I agree with you on the power front. My entire office with several machines, a server a CCTV system and card machine, along with 2 Phones/AIO Routers is (according to the BG smart meter) 2p/hour to run,
It's on 24/7 and my last electric bill was just over £120 for the quarter. I am on a basic standard tariff only
So not expensive at all
I use the Billion 8800NL and never had a problem with it. I went back to the HG612 and a linksys for my backup line, mainly for the reasons that you didn't list
I don't use wifi so it's off via the rear button. I also know it does not have GB ports but as I use it for 80/20 max then really not bothered.
I like it - I also like the look of the DrayTek

Yes but plugged two sockets seem a bit daft (waste of electricity bill in my view) I have no doubt that my three box solution (modem/router, firewall and separate wifi access point) uses more electricity but as my flat has no central heating it helps keep me warm
....not to mention the five servers
D'oh! I wasn't going to mention the five servers
I can also put my wifi access point centrally even though the phone line comes in by the front door. My router is in the best possible place for the phone socket, my access point is in the best place for getting wifi around the flat. Once box solutions usually necessitate a compromise.
